My Eclipse got a new panel under warranty. I watched the repairman do the swap. I would not attempt unless you have specific instructions. It wasn’t just taking off the old panel and putting on the new one. It was taking off the old panel, swapping a bunch of parts from old to new, and then puting the new panel on. I mean none of it looked too difficult – no special tools, just a screwdriver / maybe a torx wrench and removing / adding the panel is 2 person job lifting and centering, However, knowing which parts need to be swapped in which order would probably be hard to figure out and easy to miss something.
Dear all, I am the “proud” owner of an Eclipse 55″ that needs OLED screen replacement.
Of course I got an offer from a B&O dealer for the new panel and the related work to do the installation, but I have that insane itch of “doing it myself”.
So, aside buying the new OLED panel, does anyone possess the Eclipse TV installation/maintenance manual to get the necessary explanations on how to dismount the old panel and install the new one?
It seems that user manuals are easy to find, but maintenance is like the holy grail of secrecy.
In my personal opinion on listening extensively at my dealers and at home to my taste keep the BL19, but change the crossover in the app to 90 kHz. The Theatre shares the bass across all speakers. In your case the 28s will take much of this but by also having the BL19 in another location it adds to the whole room.
I actually trialled 2 x BL19s for a month before the Theatre with an Eclipse and 6 x BL17s but realised the new bass magic of the Theatre I only needed 1 x BL19, but now if the right one came along at the right price I would snap it up I just wasn’t in a position to buy new a year ago.
Try it and if you don’t like or need it sell the BL19, there is an active 2nd hand market for them as the sub is so capable especially with the Theatre as it brings more out of it than I have ever experienced with an Eclipse or Avant.
I have e. g. one BLC set up with my BS 9000. In „Connect to Primary“ it is configured with my Essence MK II. The ML sources show up in the sources list of the Essence. They are not visible in the sources list of my BS 2 (ASE) or of my Emerge (Mozart). I do not know if this has been always like this, but it seems logical to me because there is no direct connection between the ML sources of the BLC and the NL devices.
With Balances in such a set up I have no experience. What I do know is, that my BS 9000 playing CD – via BLC – is multi-roomed to my Emerge.
Right now I am listening to Sarah K. on CD over my BeoGram 4500 CD. It has also been set up with a BLC and in the App I can see possible BeoLink Multiroom connections to Eclipse, Essence, BS2 and Emerge. I can not see my other BLC connected devices.
I think if you had purchased new a larger flat screen Avant or Eclipse (with flagship sound/connectivity/stand), I think it would be realistic that that Beovision would cost you over £2000/year in depreciation or right-off over say 5 years to keep up with the screen tech (your choice) i.e £10000 minimum.
A Theatre, in my view represents a similar outlay (£10-15k, size dependant) but you will be depreciating/righting-off £2000 to £3500-ish in LG screen in 5 years. The same if you had a non-B&O soundbar. The Soundbar in theory should be good for a good deal longer than 5 years and therefore represents an improved economic (won’t say investment) over similar life cycle.
If it’s within your means and you can handle a few bugs (until B&O iron them out), it will be an enjoyable bit of kit
If it is a must, that your ‘new tv’ has to be ML compatiple, there is not much to upgrade.
The BV10 – which basicly is the same tv in another design – was available up to 55”.
However, it is an old tv…and can hardly be seen as an upgrade.
This means, that – if you plan to keep the ML setup – you will have to look into the use of the NL/ML Converter
That would give you the option of concidering the newer BV’s BV11/BV Avant…..BV Eclipse and so on.
With a solution based on the BS Theatre and an LG tv there still are some limitations, but it is doable.
Back in the old-days, I tested a Beovision 11 as the only thing in the front, with a pair of Beolab 9s as the surround speakers.
This had some advantages (assuming that you’re not interested in listening to 2-channel stereo properly), including
“hiding” the big speakers on either side of the sofa instead of the front of the room
two big woofers (better than one subwoofer)
the woofers were farther apart than they would have been had they been “properly configured” as a stereo pair.
Of course, this also means that the centre channel was non-existent (it’s a 4.2 system instead of a 5.1, to be honest) but the Beovision 11’s two internal speakers playing a downmixed L+C+R worked just fine!
If you’re a fan of weird setups, here’s another one if you have a pair of external front loudspeakers and an Eclipse or Harmony (but no surround loudspeakers):
Set the external loudspeakers to Left- and Right-Front
Set the centre output on the television to Centre Front
Set the Left and Right internal outputs of the television to Left- and Right-Surround
I have a eclipse mk 2 and beolab 20 at the front and beolab 9 also a sub beolab 2 I have had it a little while know and have never been impressed with the sound ? No thumping base when watch movies.
I watch tv and movies mostly have tried altering the set up but still not very good has anyone got some pointers .I used to run through Beovision 14 terrible tv useless software the sound software is the same and was supposed to be a lot better ?
I also used to run through a Beovision 5 much more base and better movie atmosphere
@Paul9367, as a previous owner of a Gen 1 Eclipse 55” and a Gen 2 Eclipse, and now have a Stage with a C9 and a Theatre with a G3 65”, I feel suitably qualified to steer you to the Stage with a STB bracket if you are not needing to add further speakers or automated stand movement. The simplicity of the Stage / LG combo continues to impress me, it just works flawlessly and the sound is epic, with adequate sound processing for an Atmos effect. Remember the Eclipse’s sound is only OK and no Atmos processing.
However, if adding more speakers is your goal then I am an advocate of the Theatre especially if matched with a G3 or C3, and the party piece over the Eclipse 55 is that if you had the width for the Eclipse 55” you can probably go up to the 65” with minimal effort as the dimensions are close… that’s what I did and the extract picture size matches the power of the Theatre’s sound.
IMO do not pay for the screen repair, I did with my first Eclipse Gen 1 and was the forever looking for picture fault as I lost trust in the screen. Also the automated bracket was simply not strong enough for the weight of the newer LG TVs, and over time they sagged when away from the wall (fully open at 60 degrees); in fact the website removed the ability to by the automated wall bracket.
Not sure what you are asking. If you buy a new LG, then you’ll have change left over, but no soundcenter or stand. Or are you looking at an aftermarket integration of a new LG panel with the old soundcenter/stand?
If it was me, I’d probably go with the replacement screen, but the soundcenter, stand and sleek integration between them all are very important to me. I’d only go with the aftermarket option (assuming one exists) of mounting a different LG on the soundcenter if B&O could not help me. If your friend is considering dumping the entire Eclipse in favor of an LG, then I suppose audio quality and integration is not very important.
what are your thoughts have a good friend who had the above tv, they have been quoted over £2500 for the replacement of the screen. He could buy a new lg and still have change left over, are we being unrealistic about the cost of the repair. It is out of guarantee?
In this guide, operation is described with BeoRemote One. Note that to operate your television, it must first be paired with BeoRemote One. Your television enters pairing mode as soon as you connect it to the mains. For information on how to enable pairing of BeoRemote One, see the guide for your remote control, http://www.bang-olufsen.com/guides/beoremoteonebt. Also, press the red button in the on-screen help and find ‘Bluetooth’ for more about pairing.
I have the 90s. Previous to that the BL5s. the 90 and the 50s have settings in the BeoApp which enable threshold trigger on/off and source priority. I use the BL90s with a Beovision (Beosound Theatre) via DPL and Auralic DAC/Streamer (XLR). The triggers are set for priority XLR, the DPL (set your most used source last). The BL90s trigger on XLR signal and (IIRC, 30sec after no signal trigger off). Via DPL, it’s all controlled by the Beovision. but I’ve never tried that.
Hi,
I just recieved my BL50 + Theatre replacing my BL5 + Eclipse.
My plan was to connect:
Theatre to BL50 (and 8000 as surround) with Powerlink,
Core to BL50 with Optical,
BC2 coaxial output to BL50 with SP/DIF.
Unfortunately, the dealer did not succeed to set the PWL way, as the Theater detection process always failed to find one speaker (either 50s or 8000s).
So he used WISA for the 50s.
The problem is that WISA prevents the physical input to be automatically detected and the BL do not turn-on when using Core /BS2 sources.
So I have to go in the 50s settings to stop WISA, start the source and hope that the 50s will turn-on. Quite uncomfortable!!!
So I have some questions:
how to proceed to get the 4 PWL speakers detected?
I noticed that Mr 10% used DPL to connect Theater and BL90s. Is it possible to do that on the 50s and is there any delay with surround speakers?
No problem here with a 802.11ac mesh network (2 Linksys Velop), either with ASE products (BV Eclipse, Essence MKII, A9 MKII) or Mozart (Level). Note that the Level goes everywhere around the house and the garden, and there is no problem at all. I think this rumor comes from people with a bad wifi.
As someone who has a 65 G3 Theatre with 6 x BL17s and a BL19, whilst imo the BL8 are a natural successor to my BL17 they are too much money for me to swap out my 3 sets of BL17s for what I will get in return. As arguably the swap will be governed by the law of decreasing returns in what new sound detail, clarity, emotion I hear and feel.
Were I starting again Yes, highly likely I would not get a BL19 and buy a set of BL28 and 2 other sets of BL8s with the Theatre. But the price gap is too wide. Especially with the recent increase to the Theatre. I am just glad I was an early adopter almost 1 year ago. I will say my best decision was changing the G2 to a G3, it did cost me £2,300 to part exchange back with my dealer but imo worth it when the G3 was released.
My concern and rhetorical question is B&O leadership forgetting their own marketing… the cleverness of the Theatre to bring alive older BeoLabs was a big selling point, as well as sharing the bass across all speakers.
I suspect many existing customers were hoping for Atmos speakers for the height channels with the same specs as the Theatre as the up and side firing in the sound bar are good just not BeoLab good; and these BL8 are on the tech specs too good and too pricy for the occasional sound of church bells in James Bond. [side note the clip played in the dealers & on the YouTube video above is not an Atmos track, the bullets do not come from the correct location because it is a 5.1 DD track… check the dealerships app next time you demo any of their clips, it will not say Atmos… it sounds much more expansive when the same clip is played off Apple TV or UHD Blu-ray with the same setup).
Last thought… I am not an UHNW target market customer, but I do sit in the Top 3% on salary in the UK, and I have spent close to £50k in 8 years with my dealer being an early adopter or put it another way spending £500 a month every month for the previous 84 months! Explain that to your family, £500 a month is on par with average car payments or interest only mortgage payments before inflation. It grieves me as a customer who has upgraded from an Avant to Eclipse Gen1 to Eclipse Gen2 to Theatre. But with the BL8s sorry B&O leadership whilst your designers are on fire with outstanding speakers you have imo missed the mark on the feedback provided from customers like me who cannot justify to keep on upgrading when something new is released when what I have is damn fine! Plus my wife would say since moving to B&O TVs we have had 4 sets in 8 years two broke (red screen) and the Pioneer Kuro plasma we had before lasted 10 years.
