Bad adjustment of the interrupter and/or bad LDR resistor.

Note that Beomaster 4400 was produced with two different types of potentiometers.
They have different mounting and are not interchangable.
The early type is the same as Beomaster 3000/4000.

So the Beomaster does not send back to the remote.
    Or the remote cannot receive.

    Check the idle currents!
The trimmers will be bad – just as bad as the capacitors you’ve noticed, and they will need replacing and realigning.
Did it smoke – check/replace the emitter resistors as well.
A convenient service kit is available containing caps and trimmers.

I have seen both left and right aligned models.
    Definitely most left.
It’s not that at some point mirrored pairs were sold. No, they are always found in pairs, either both left or both right.
    Why, I cannot say.

Don’t increase the wattage of the resistors.
Some of them double as “overload fuses” to protect the drivers.
If the resistors are not burned or physically damaged, I would leave them well alone. They will be fine.

47uF or 50uF (depending on OEM) doesn’t matter much, seeing as the tolerances of the original caps
were typically +/- 20%, and you can find them fitted randomly from factory.

It’s not difficult to find a woofer that will fit physically.
Finding one with the same T/S parameters, on the other hand, is impossible. (Keep in mind this is in effect a woofer in a midrange size).
The original woofer was custom produced for this speaker. A similar looking one was used in a larger Beovox model, but they
    are far from identical parameter-wise.
I would repair the original woofers. Perhaps you can do it yourself. There are threads here in the forum showing how
to do the S45 woofer, which suffer from the same issue.
Same goes for the speaker used in the slim 1970s Beolit portable radios.

All Beovox 2700 and 2702 use foam.

Could be as simple as a pulled cables inside.
Some cables are easily pulled inadvertently.

Some Beomasters have a too long bottom plate screw shorting a point under the tuner modules to chassis.

    There can be several reasons.
DC on an output – typically if solder joints are cracked the output stage transistors.
Bad switching IC – or oxide-shells between IC pins.
Problem with the standby touchpad sensor circuit.
Fault in a speaker or speaker cable. Try with no connected speakers/cables.

Lubricate the laser block pivot bearings.

And check the subchassis riding height.
A 12″ record is larger than the platter, so will scrape on the surrounding surface if riding too low.
It should have a 1-1½mm clearance with the carriage pushed all the way to the left.
Note that the weight of the carriage shifts the subchassis’ balance as it moves sideways.
This will often cause wow/flutter and/or a scraping sound at the inner tracks of a record.

does anyone happen to know if the idler wheel is pulled on to the speed controller spindle by the tension of the main drive belt?

    That’s exactly how it is.

I know of another two Beomaster 4401.
Both natural alu color. Not black.

The resistor works in the circuit providing a slower forward towards the lead-in groove.
