You may have to change the role of the NL/ML converter. Since you mention that you can acces from the Beolab 2000 by pressing Tape it sounds like you have set it up like a A.master or AV.Master. But your Beosound 3000 is probably also an Audio master (A.master) and there can not be 2 of those on the ML side of the converter.

Therefor I suggest that you setup the NL/ML converter as source center and then assign the Line in to either N.radio (PHONO on older remotes) or N.music (Atape2 on older remotes), and the use these remote commands instead.

You do not mention if you have a Masterlink network where the Beovision 6’s are connected to?

The Beovision 6’s could be connected to the Avant via NL/ML converter and and play sources from the Avant that way. If you do not allready have it you may need some cabeling for this to work.

I do not have any 2-way equipment to test it with.  I do have an MCL2A and MCL2AV, but the only thing I have to connect those to is a Beocenter 8500.

I might have confused you with the talk about the MCP5500/6500. The MCP 5000 you have will only control the Beomaster 5000

Still, even without compatible equipment, I can be confident the MCP5000 isn’t working, as even without compatible equipment, I’m sure the display should respond in some way when the buttons are pressed.  There’s no display response at all.

I would also expect it to show something like no connection on the display or a red dot.

I don’t really need it to work with my BS4, I just want it to work, as it seems a shame that such a perfect pierce of design, in such great condition, is not functioning.

I do not have any repair tips for it, but one thing that has been mentioned in threads about these MCP units over time is damage of the PCB due to leaking batteries, so it might be worth to dissassemble it to see if this is the case here.

MCP5500 etc will possibly work two-way with the MCL2AV and its sensor.  I seem to remember testing this with a ‘stand-alone’ MCL2AV back when I used that for computer audio.  I am not sure what the outcome will be if a one-way audiomaster is also connected to the MCL2 system.

Also happe new year to you, and yes thats correct it will work with the 2way MCL2 stuff. I had a MCP6500 briefly that I tested with a MCL2AV connected to my BC9300 https://forum.beoworld.org/forums/topic/mcp-6500-behaviour/ so that is possible.

First of happy new year to you

Before you use to much time on it you should know that the MCP5000 will only work with a Beomaster 5000 as it use different IR codes than the newer Beolink 1000 compatible products.

If consider getting a MCP5500 or MCP6500 instead be avare that these will only work with some 2 way IR products like BM5500/BM6500/BM7000 (and maybe a few more), but not with 1 way IR products like the BS4.

    1. serve the same purpose: drive my beolab and act as input for the room, even if there is no NL devices in the network?

This should be possible yes. I am a little unsure about the local input if setup as A.SLAVE though

    2. Allow me to select which command on the beo4 selects the analog input, not only the PC command

Yes. Although only sources that are not in use for other devices in the ML network can be used. That means if you allready have a Audio and Video master your choises are limited.

    3. possibly allow the local source to be available throughout the house, unlike Beolink Active?

I think the NL/ML converter has to be setup as either a Audio or Video master for this to work. This requires that you do not have the one or the other in the system allready.

Please let us know a little more about your current setup, then it is easier to give advice.

    Hello and welcome to Beoworld

This was continued in this thread https://forum.beoworld.org/forums/topic/beosound-ouverture-cd-not-working/

Although for my part I still have an issue where I have to press CD twice other members had luck with laser replacement and/or recapping of the servo board.

    Many things could be wrong.

Maybe try to isolate the issue by disconnecting the NL/ML converter and see if the issue persist with just the BS3000 and the BL2000. Remember to power down the system before disconnection Masterlink cables.

I think it might have to do with the sequence the plugs are inserted

I might have to ask if you do this with the system powered on? Best practice is to power down both the Main room system and the link rooms that has a local power lead to avoid mal functioning.

The Beolab 3500 upstairs is still being obstinate, though; it answers “Radio”, and reacts to volume change on the screen, but makes no sound.

Sounds like the data connection to the main system is missing. The older MCL compatible BL3500’s will react to source commands and show the source name even though they are not connected at all.

Maybe try to power down the whole system and first turn on the main room system, and then the Beolab 3500

Try to select a source on the main system first and then the Beolab 3500, just to see if at least the sound gets through. If not try the remote sequence Menu + 0 + 4. + GO (on a BEO4 remote). THis will open the sound input. If you have a Beolink 1000 the sequence is Menu + 0 + 4 +Play.

If you have any junction boxes where the cable is spliced check if the cables are firmly connected (do this with the system powered off in both main and link rooms)

    Hope this is helpfull

is there anything I need to know before buying one? Are there different types?

Yes. Like the “normal” powerlink cables there are versions that are fully wired and versions that are not. For the Beolink Passive the fully wired version is needed.

Looking at the Beolink handbook the official B&O cables are found in both versions.

Looking at Sound Heavenly’s website it looks like the RJ45 to DIN cables and adapters Steve has in stock are all fully wired, and I am sure he will gladly verify that before you buy.

By any chance have you been reconnecting the speaker plugs in the main room recently?

Just asking as it it very important the the speaker 2 plugs that go to the link rooms are connected correctly (left and right).

So my ‘o’ rings are 3mm diam, I assume they will not work, I as yet haven’t opened the BC up

3mm will be to large yes.

Meanwhile, I have ordered some 25mm id x 1.5mm diam rings, they should also be here later in the week!

Good luck with the job. The service manual describes how to disassemble the larger parts as far as I remember, but not how to disassemble the CD loading mechanism. A good Idea will be to take pictures in the procces to remember how things are connected

The MCL2 link-room test will have to wait a while as I really don’t have a clue where to find my 3-pin MCL2 speaker connection cables!

No hurry. Also I am thinking about making a separate thread about powerlink/MCL comptabilty for different products so the info might be usefull there at one point

On a very off topic note. If that works it could be interesting to find out if the passive can also drive a MCL link room, for example: Essence – Powerlink – Passive – MCL cable – MCL2A or MCL2AV or Beolab 3500

Now you’re just trying to get me to re-open more packing boxes … 😀

you know you want to 😉

I also want to check that the PL output will trigger a Passive connected to some non-B&O speakers.

On a very off topic note. If that works it could be interesting to ind out if the passive can also drive a MCL link room, for example:

    Essence – Powerlink – Passive – MCL cable – MCL2A or MCL2AV or Beolab 3500

I tried it at one point with the playmaker which did not have that functionality.

I had some similar issues were the CD would not load and it turned out to be the belt for the CD tray that needed replacement.

I think it might be a case of a one man company with to much work for one person.

In my experience very helpfull….but also very busy.

Both arguments: no excuses! Especial if they want to build a decent business.

I will contact them see what happens.
Just tried to contact them on the phone nummer on their site! I got a tape saying: “we will be back the 21st of Oktober”.
So it looks like scam to me if you are seemingly out of business but still sell items. But maybe MM and/or Madskp get a response phoning from DK?
    EDIT

it looks like…but that said, for sure it is no scam. I’ve spoken to Ulrik. In the end it was Paypal which fooled both of us. He did get info the order was canceled, I did get a mail which said I paid.

And ….. he will change his voicemail message!

Good to hear that it got resolved in the end 🙂
