What a great write up of the Emerge, thank you!
I wouldn’t consider Emerge until they make an oak version that is not gold. I was also gifted a handful of M5s, rendering my need for single-point speakers obsolete. But now I’m eager to listen to Emerge one day!
Thanks again!

Nevermind, as apparently BLI mk3 was just announced yesterday!

If you have trouble selling the Core, I could be interested if you would make an exception and ship it to FL. I understand this is not ideal for you but I can also assure you of no funny business. I’m a long-time, trustworthy board member.
No pressure, but if that becomes interesting to you, contact me.

Bump. Thanks!
Tampa Bay, FL. As I said, it’s in the original shipping box with all materials so shipping is not problematic.
I think there’s an argument to be made about whether many B&O products are worth their retail price relative to competitive products. This includes the 17s, which were I believe about $5,000 USD at EOL (not including floor stands or wall mounts–floor stands were another $800 for a pair).
$5k -6k can buy a significantly larger, more full-range speaker with bigger sound. (For simplicity, I’m ignoring other total system costs including amplification and sources.)
BUT… price aside for a moment, I think a listen to the 17s will always show them to be a very capable and great sounding speaker. They sound much larger than they look.
And price back into the equation now, since we can get 17s pre-owned for far less than retail, I think they make more sense in the context of an all-B&O system. KEF LS50 Wireless IIs are about $2800 USD. So, 17s at around $2k seem reasonable.
Congratulations to a few of you who are just buying 17s now. You are in for a real treat.
Another win for BL17! Any thread that extols their virtues has my attention. The BL17 fandom never gets old. I love mine. While I expect to soon have a surround setup consisting of Theater, BL28 or BL50 front and BL17 or BL18 rear, I sometimes think having a 5.0 system of Theater + 4x BL17 would be plenty and spectacular. What an underrated and wonderful product. I really hope it gets a replacement.
And I’m so glad you enjoy yours, WP61.
I love your “B&O path”, RAZ. This is amazing.

I’m in the Tampa Bay area so this is something I appreciate hearing about. Thanks, Trackbeo!
Hi John. I have private messaged you.
Congratulations! And this is fantastic to hear as I own a Level but have not heard them stereo paired. Any further thoughts after another week or so of ownership?
The following is not going to be helpful at all, so I apologize in advance.
But two thoughts I had:
- I have to imagine a dedicated subwoofer with its own amps and two 8″ drivers would deliver significantly greater bass performance (at least at higher volumes) than the Theater.
- Then again, BL28 essentially replaced BL20 with significantly smaller area drivers (6.5″ vs 10″ diameters), so maybe B&O worked the same magic on the Theater.
I look forward to responses from folks with first-hand experience!
I get very drawn into threads in which everyone touts the often unsung virtues of BL17–I have a pair and adore them. I think they sound fantastic in my bedroom. I also own BL18 but have had them tucked away in storage for years so I can’t provide a comparison informed by recent listening but remember thinking MAYBE the 18s were slightly somehow more crisp in the treble but maybe not. And obviously, the 17s sound much fuller than 18s though they are not as pretty.
I have envisioned a 5.1 system consisting of some Beovision/Theater and 4 x BL17. In a smaller or medium room, I think it would be fantastic.
I cable everything via optical Toslink so I cannot speak to WISA.
I also own a Level but have not done a direct comparison against BL17. I assume the 17s outmuscle the Level fairly obviously.
Lastly, I don’t think I have ever witnessed anyone say anything good about Edge so this was very interesting to read! Thank you for your opinions!
Thank you for posting this. For some reason, I did not receive the email announcement from B&O so I appreciated finding this here, Trackbeo.
To my knowledge, software updates must be done using a Transmitter 1 over WISA (unless you’re a dealer) but I think the only updates are related to WISA stability and such. I don’t think there are sound-related updates that have been made.
In any case, updating software is described in B&O support docs if you search for them.
Edge is not a GVA product so I don’t know how or why Google could ever be involved in setting up or using the product.
As I said in our Discord forum, I’m very curious how they are managing all the processing and multichannel decoding without a Beovision. B&O doesn’t make an AVR currently. Must be some type of third-party solution but… that being the likely case… does it seem a bit disingenuous to showcase a theater like that which requires either a component not available for sale or third-party products to allow for the integration?
That said… amazing looking, overkill in the best way, and I’d love to watch an action movie there. 🙂
