Hi,
Have you had a look at the service manual? I seem to remember everything is explained in it.
Location: BurgundyGOLD MemberYes it is glued, but it can be opened with some care. Not for the faint of heart though.
Location: BurgundyGOLD MemberAnd yet some belts seem to last forever: I have a Thorens turntable that has a 20 year-old belt that is still perfectly operational.
I’m pretty certain that all the belts that turned into goo came from the same Japanese factory.
Beocord open reel machines have hardened or cracked rubber.
Location: BurgundyGOLD MemberCongratulations to the winners!
Location: BurgundyGOLD MemberGood luck everyone! ?
Location: BurgundyGOLD MemberNot so sure John. I’ve recently done a VCR that had always sat under the TV set, until one day it didn’t work. The four belts had turned into goo, unbelievable. After hours of cleaning and belt replacement the VCR worked perfectly again.
Location: BurgundyGOLD MemberI did mine ten years ago and it just needed a new set of belts and a drop of oil here and there, always a good idea while it’s in bits and pieces.
How is it working now? Was the “drop of oil” added to the sintered bearings?
Yes of course. It works perfectly.
Location: BurgundyGOLD MemberDouble post ?Location: BurgundyGOLD MemberExcellent, and well done. ☺️?
Location: BurgundyGOLD MemberConclusion: send Rudy your motors, as he’s now the absolute expert. You know, like a surgeon who has performed lots of operations, as opposed to one who has just done a few.
Location: BurgundyGOLD MemberThanks for the pictures John. Very useful. The trimmer is very thin. Have you found a replacement?
The motor does look similar to the Beocord 6000/8000 one but is it the same? How are the two speeds obtained?
Jacques
Location: BurgundyGOLD MemberUnfortunately the Beocord 9000 motor is specific to these decks. It is irreplaceable.
So unless you know what you’re doing, send it to someone who can do it in their sleep like Rudy!

Location: BurgundyGOLD MemberJust enjoy your deck as it is. Keep your money!
Location: BurgundyGOLD MemberGood and well done Terry ?
Location: BurgundyGOLD MemberBC534 perhaps?
Location: BurgundyGOLD MemberThe top cap can be removed with moderate force (go ahead, don’t be shy) and can be put back on. Many cassette deck reels use this assembly method.
Clean the metal shaft with some white spirit then some DTE oil may be applied inside the reel’s central hole (one tiny drop) before reassembling. The felt washer shouldn’t be oiled.
Location: BurgundyGOLD MemberWell done, the pictures are really a welcome bonus. Thank you.
Location: BurgundyGOLD MemberHi,
Did you set the brake pad correctly? It should be inside the wheel, not outside. I think I had the problem but that was a long time ago…
Location: BurgundyGOLD MemberNothing to read here, sorry.
Location: BurgundyGOLD MemberHi and welcome!
It does involve some extensive soldering work, and possibly capacitor replacements. Plenty of information on the archived forums.Do have a look, do your homework then come back here if you have any unanswered questions. ☺️
