I duplicated one of the existing listening positions to see if changes have been made to the use of the Theatre’s internal speakers. Oddly, we can assign roles (including Center Front) to the left and right side firing speakers, but we still cannot use the left and right front firing speakers. If there is a good reason WHY we can’t use the left and right front firing speakers, I wish B&O would just tell us.

I downloaded the beta update. Unfortunately, the app still crashes when scanning for wireless Receiver 1 speakers. The Receiver 1 shows up once the app is restarted. However, there still is no option to indicate what the speaker model is that is connected to the Receiver 1. So it looks like the Receiver 1 issue still is not fixed.

I’m still on 2.3.4.15123. Did those of you with later versions opt in for betas?

Received a software update today to my Theatre. Initial impressions are the previous problems have been solved.

I still haven’t received any software update. I’m been on version 2.3.4 since November 20. What version are you on? Did you opt in to get the beta versions? I did not.

Also, when the Theatre fails to turn on the TV screen, you can program a button on the Halo to do this.

When you say can program I assume you mean with a BLI as opposed to a stand alone Halo?

    Thanks!

    Hi, Razlaw!

Right. There is a system in the BLI that you can add that gives control of the LG TV directly from the BLI. If you have a BLI and needs some help programming the macro, DM me and I’d be happy to help.

    @Sandyb:

A few minutes of playing with it at your dealer’s store or even bringing one home and promptly returning it is not at all the same as owning one, living with it, and getting a true feel for its usefulness It just gets old that whenever the Halo gets mentioned the same Halo Haters show up trolling when they have no true experience with using it. We get it — you don’t like it. Then just don’t buy one. Problem solved!

I find it fascinating that someone who doesn’t even have a Halo and hasn’t spent time using one has such opinions. lol

I never had the expectation of being able to use the Halo to search music nor was that ever promised as a feature. That would be quite a leap for the Halo to essentially have the functionality of a Beosound Moment. It’s still quite useful for music control, though. You can see metadata of what music is playing and can move among tracks being played through Deezer.

As for the Theatre, you can use the color arrows to navigate around the TV, Apple TV, etc., screen to make selections.

The Halo works MUCH better with the Theatre than I had expected. You have the ease of reaching over to adjust the volume with the wheel — which can be faster than reaching for the Beoremote One and pressing the volume buttons. Also, you can pause/play MOST sources. You just need to swipe down once from the upper left side and then press the middle dot. I say that you can pause/play most sources because some sources require the play and pause buttons on the Beoremote One rather than using the middle dot button. It would be nice to have some uniformity, but this varies even among apps on the Apple TV.

Swiping down twice from the upper left of the screen gives you a screen where you can select the video and music sources of the Theatre. The sources are even grouped by “TV” or “Music” sources.

One swipe up gives you a screen of the My Buttons. Two swipes up gives you a screen where you can choose among your Listening Positions. This is useful. Three, Four, or Five swipes up gives you up to three screens of home automation controls if you have a BLI. This can let you control light scenes, blinds, temperature control, fan control, etc. You can even start your Roomba vacuum from these screens. You can use the wheel to adjust the dimming of the lights. I find two programmed buttons to be very useful: (1) a button to set the lights for a scene for tv viewing and (2) a button to turn on a lamp on a side table to full brightness for when you need enough light to read.

While B&O is working out the bugs of the Theatre, the Halo helps fill in these gaps of control. You can set lights scenes which you currently cannot by using the Beoremote One with the Theatre. Also, when the Theatre fails to turn on the TV screen, you can program a button on the Halo to do this.

I’ve been able to make a solution to turning on the LG TV in the meantime until B&O/LG fix this. I created a macro in the BLI using the LG system to power on the TV. I then placed this as a button on the Halo.

It is a Dish DVR. The box does turn on as does the G2 but the image and audio do not begin. Sometimes the screen indicates no signal. If I turn on another source such as Apple TV, Netflix etc image and audio immediately begin. If I then press satellite it also begins immediately.

I’ve been encountering similar issues. I find that it only happens for me after I’ve used one of the LG’s internal sources — such as its Netflix app. When I then switch to the Apple TV 4K connected to the Theatre, I might get no sound or a message like yours stating no source. If I switch to another source connected to the Theatre — such as UHD player — and then switch back to the Apple TV, everything is okay again.

Similarly, the BLI/BLGW/MLGW LIGHT/CONTROL forwarding is activated in the settings (often the hidden settings such as Beosystem 3, Beovision 10, etc.) of Beovisions and Beosystems.

I don’t think you’re quite understanding We need to indicated in the B&O app (or via a direct web browser interface such as for the NL/ML Converter) which device is the home automation hub that we’re directing any B&O device to forward LIGHT/CONTROL commands to. Otherwise, the B&O device does not know where to forward the LIGHT/CONTROL commands to. For example, we could have multiple BLI or BLGW units on a particular network. Therefore, the B&O device needs to know which hub to use. This is done through the B&O app or web interface for each and every device. It’s not done through Khimo’s app.

There is a file on the USB thumbdrive that logs the activity. You can see if the speaker was skipped or updated and what the firmware of the speaker/receiver is. I saw a different behavior for Receiver 1 units that were being updated compared to ones that already had the recent firmware. I found it to be good practice to have just one speaker/receiver plugged into power at a time for the firmware update cycle so that I could see what was happening for that specific Receiver 1.

I don’t believe that the BLI integration issue is the fault of Khimo. In the B&O app there should be an option to select the BLI from a list of B&O devices on the network. That is not present.

Khimo has otherwise fully integrated the Theatre in the BLI. I have even been able to play albums through the Theatre using the secret hidden system in BLI that starts playing a vinyl record album as soon as I place it on a stand. However, this involves the daunting task of editing about 300 macros that I’ve created for my entire vinyl record album collection.

I still haven’t received the update on this side of the pond. The two big issues I’m hoping it might fix are (1)allowing us to use speakers connected via Wisa with Beoreceiver 1 and (2) fixing the issue of the Theatre not powering on the LG TV. I’ve been finding that I keep seeing the message in the app to integrate the LG TV even after I have done that.

Geoff’s explanation makes sense about how Dolby Atmos could be a reason for a change needed in the volume level. I had never been able to use Dolby Atmos with B&O before the Theatre. I just do REALLY hope that the True Image upmixing will be fixed to allow MORE Beolabs beyond the 7.1.4. The whole point of True Image upmixing seemed to be allowing more B&O speakers to fill out the soundstage. Yet, now we’ve actually LOST speaker roles that were previously allowed in the Beosystem 4.

Also, an explanation for why we can’t use the side front-firing speakers of the Theatre to add to the center channel role would be really welcome. Is it because the sound signals would interfere with the middle speaker?? It would just be nice to have an explanation so that we don’t see this as just an oversight or flaw in the software programming.

If the Theatre at least had support to forward LIGHT/CONTROL signals to the BLI I could program a macro to let me turn on the LG TV. I paid $3000 more for an LG C2 for the very purpose of having a seamless integration with the TV!

Also, I’ve found that not only does the Theatre not show up in the Moment to use its speakers, but also I can’t even JOIN what’s playing on the Moment with the Theatre.

I think the volume thing is not a hill of beans, just a muscle memory thing where the eyes tell you one thing but the ears say more. Once you get used to to 50-ish, it becomes second nature.

It’s nice to have consistency across B&O devices. B&O seems to think the volume level is the same, but it clearly is not. There are still a lot of bugs to work out in the Theatre. After investing as an early adopter in the most expensive soundbar on the market, I do want B&O to listen and improve.

I’ll chime in that I definitely must raise the audio level to be what I had used for listening to the same source on my Beosystem 4, Beosystem 3, and Beovision 10.

    @Geoff,

Please do listen to what your real-world users are reporting. Also:

    1. We are unable to use ALL front-firing speakers of the Theatre for the Center role.
    2. Without allowing us to assign other Dolby speaker roles such as “Wide” we cannot take advantage of the TrueImage upmixing for speakers beyond 7.1.4. Why not just allow this as you did with the Beosystem 4?? This seems like a diminishment of the TrueImage concept.

How do I enable B and O mode? App shows connected and I do not see an option to specifically enable it.

If you’re not seeing the message in the app prompting you to enable B&O mode, you most likely already enabled it during the initial setup. Unfortunately, this did not resolve the problem for me. After having the LG TV and Theatre in standby for an hour, starting the video source on the Beoremote One did not turn on the TV. I had to manually turn the TV on using the button under the screen. I’ve replaced both cables connecting the LG to the TV with better quality cables and this problem is still present. All other control of the LG TV using the Beoremote One works fine.

I possibly found what was causing the issue of the TV not turning on. In the B&O app, after scrolling down, I saw a message asking me if I wanted to enable B&O mode on the LG TV. I KNOW that I had already done this. However, perhaps the update to version 2.3.4 reset this setting to prompt me to do it again.
