26 September 2024 at 13:05 in reply to: End of the road for Deezer? Move to Tidal? It’s all Elon Musk’s fault! #59424
I have the theatre and 28s but also a BS2 and subscribe to deezer for voice integartion.
If I move to tidal will it work with beowound 2 GVA version?
in the latest update 3.4.1 i notice that the remote now responds immediately to the remote when watching normal TV it used to take about 40 secoinds before its sychronised correctly enabling chanell changes.
Bass on PCM 2 is improved, so for me im happy with the result.
B&O had many troubles with the video engine, originally the price was £1200 fitted, then the price of the exchange board dropped to £750 plus fitting , as so many were going faulty, they seem to last for about 4 years, although my replacement lasted 14 months.
Maybe its more of a problem with the 55 as the chassis is more compact and greater heat issues, which seem to cause the problem.
Seeems like the video engine problem to me, had it several time when i had the avant.
1200 fix
Not sure if others have experienced but im finding the Theatre randomly flashes orange when watching TV then the product appears ‘offline’ whenn checking in the App?
A few years ago, I to was sad to see the ‘demise’ of B&O, saddened by the lovely Avant being superceded by an alliance with LG.
Alas with the Avant, having spent £6K and with the unreliability that went with it ( 3 video boards just out of warranty) it all became an impossibly expensive proposition.
Now I have the Theatre, its a great product ( a few software bugs excluded) and I can change the screen for £1500 should it fail. The picture quality is way above what B&O could achieve in a superfast changing market.
Likewise, beolab 28, what a great speaker, sound clarity compared to the speakers of the age that some yearn for is leagues above what was previously possible.
Yes the preowned market has tanked , but thats due to rapid technology change not B&O, lets face it who wants to buy an Avant now? or beolab 8000 or lab9/20 unless its super cheap.
Times have moved on, im not sure what individuals expected B&O to do, but i think their product range is actually very good presently; sure the price has moved to extreme levels but so have motor cars ect.
Just a few thoughts
Thank you that is useful to know are you able to tell me the steps i need to go through to do that, its just this set up has been a little temerpmental and i dont want any more problems!
For what its worth i went through the same situation last year.
I think the Avant is the most wonderful looking TV but I had the Video board go o n three occasions, I am convinced the repaired boards dont last as long and each time its a £1K fix and weeksor months of waiting.
I had enough and got the theatre, the just the idea that the investment is made and no more investing in technology that changes so quickly- just stick a new screen on.
With ever incerasing prices of B&O it was the only option for me.
Although the LG lacks many things the picture is vastly superior to the Avant and in my experience the tehatre has been fully reliable.
Hello there
The issue is, when using BR1 to switch on the TV, the reponse to change channel is laggy, sometimes i have to wait 40 seconds or more before the TV with ‘catch up’ with the remote
I dont get this issue on any other sources
I have always admired the views of Mr 10% and I agree with the sentiments expressed to a point.
Bl5 really getting on a bit and although capable add little looks wise and now seem quite dated.
The 50s a very capable speaker but i like the design of the BL28 and rather like the magic that comes with the slats- afterall B&O has always been more about design paired with performance ( in some cases!) and 28 look good with theatre
One thing not to do is get the 20s what an awful product they seemed to be!
it seems the replacement boards dont last, and gthat was my experience, Love the Avant but i would not buy at any price now
hi There
Just had notification of Theatre update to 2.5.3
Other than the bug that makes the PUC occasionally inoperable pending a mains reset – it works ok.
If I update will it lose all the settings as some have reported – and is it worth the update given the update list seems to only offer spotify and tidal updates which dont interest me?
Batteries lasting 6 weeks now on my BR1
Having said that I would prefer no updates to ones that create more problems than they solve!
i had all these issues, why not powerlink everything – that was the end of my issues
I bought tyhe 20s after the 9s worst mistake I ever made, whilst the technical nature of the report was interesting– dull and lifeless is the conclusion I came to.
On mikipedia chat they come to similar conclusions
Regularly now my BR1 will only control volume, it wont change channel or sources with the theatre,
Only remedy is full power off and cycle a few times, so im giving up with BR1 and using the LG remote which always seems to work.
What a pity that such a porentially good product has all these issues
Best of luck disabling the auto updates
When i do so, it pesters me everytime i switch it on to update it.
From the start I have problems with beoremote one not changing TV programs, and on two occasions everything dissapeared from the BR1- so batteries out, and after a while it reapears again.
I have to say whilst i love the concept, I liked the simplicity of times gone by, not wondering if the next update will wreck ythe functionality
Still very content with the theatre even with left and front firing disabled on the bar. Its a awesome center channel in a multiple speaker setup. for music i do have to prefer the beolabs 9 in direct mode. To bad the Theatre is a very expensive core in this regard. The Theatre doesn’t beat the 9’s Music wise. That has to do all with stereo Imaging. How good the Theatre is it won’t be as good as 2 separate stereo speakers, it makes up for that being very spacious. i’m considering buying 28’s for front and putting the 9’s in the back. Demo’d the 28’s last week but i’m kinda disappointed. They lack the punch of the 9’s in my opinion. Might need a Beolab 19 for that punch. Maybe I need to give them another change. Or maybe a second hand beolab 20’s?
I had the 9s, sold them for the 20s- that was a big mistake- to my ears anyway.
The 20s lack presence and although in theory have more bass, in fact its far less than the 9s apart from the more accentuated bass lines -it must be the DSP making them sound clinical – one thing they share with the 9s though is a lack of midrange.
The 28s are a sigificant setp forward for normal listening, its a different experience , warm and precise- however for a party at full volume they wont meet the requirements as a lab20 if thats what rocks your boat!Same here… judt ordered a pair of Pale Blue batteries (new technology of rechargeable batteries) that can be charged directly via usb-c… I‘ll let you know as soon as I tested them for a few weeks/months… :). Recharging takes just an hour, btw.
I would be careful., rechareables tend to have a slightly larger diameter and they get stuck solid in the casing ( as me how i know- one written off casing to prove it) and Finally, the Paleblues rate at 1560mAh much less than normal to accomodate the usb socket and he true voltage of those Paleblue cells is 3.7V (4.2v off the charger), but an additional circuit bucks it down to 1.5v. Which is one more part that can break or go wrong. Pale blue a kickstarter company not many great reviews when comparing them to rechareables at half the price
B&O state not to use them, im not sure why, i did try some lithium aaa and they played havoc with the unit, making the display flash and unresponsive
