Quick tip: the beo4 (in my case BL5000) do wake up the Mac from sleep.

Ok, good to know. Is it any keypress or only source buttons?

Yes. Having then all checked or only one by one makes no difference.

ok that was my best guess on that one, and probably also the most logical place to make this setting

I forgot, something that still bugging me: Whatever the preferences I check or not no way to display song name on the Beolab 3500 screen. Any idea? Thanks.

Have you taken a look at the settings in the bottom of the display tab? You can choose between 8, 12 or longer characters display

The problem was the stupid operator who didn’t switch LP2 to Distribution Mode. Problem solved.

I also found this in one of the threads on the older forums.

The multiple sources playing creating the echoes is also an operator related problem: it was iTunes playing in the background on top of the LP2 playing.

Yes as far as I can read LP2 is not using itunes as the player for distribution, but it might use it when choosing it as a local source.

I’m not able to select the PC input even after configuring it in LP2 source preferences. When in Mac mode I was able to browse the album/artist/genre lists from the currently playing track screen (like going one level up on an iPod). Now I can’t anymore and thats makes the PC mode necessary.

In one of the old threads I also saw a mention that only n.radio and n.music can be distributed and all other sources are only local to the Beoport.

From what I can read in the old threads Linkplayer was evolving to be a mediacenter with the computer connected to a TV, but far more advanced than the later Beomedia 1. All the sources might therefor be more related to this functionality than to distribution on ML.

The Options are set up differently in LP2 than in ML devices: you tell the software how you use it and it set the option for you. But you never know what actual option number it chooses for you. As long as it works, meaning beo4 remote control without IR eye, I’m fine with this.

Yes the option settings are no quite clear though I thin its only in the IR receiver menu you choose it. However the one called Respond to audio commands only Says it equivalent to option 1 or 5 where I would think it should be one or the other.

Trying to get more knowledge I tried to swap the Beoport box between a Windows computer with Beoplayer, and the Mac with Both BMlink, LP1 and LP2, and the option settings set in one app doesn’t seem to hold on when you switch between app’s and computers, so the option settings doesn’t seem to be stored in the Beoport box. Might also be one of the reasons it can not work without a computer connected.

Being able to control the PC source in Distribution (Masterlink) mode as you can in Local (Mac Mediacenter mode) would make it perfect. But Madskp tell us why this not seems to be possible so lets say where we are is enough…

I am afraid that in LP2 distribution to ML is only possible for N.music and N.Radio sources according to this page: https://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/t/316.aspx?PageIndex=1

    PhilLondon Wrote:

Now, something important to understand about V2, it the way it handles 2 “channels”.

There is the sound that is sent to the Masterlink when you call N.Music or N.Radio, and there is the sound and image that is played locally on your Mac, or on your TV if you use it as a Mediacenter.

The first “channel” is called “Distribution” and the second is called “Local playback”.

The is now a “View” menu, and you can switch the virtual remote from one channel to another. By default the remote always starts by controlling the local playback, but if you’re distributing N.MUSIC to other rooms, you can switch the remote to “Distribution” and follow or control what is playing. However you cannot start or stop a “Distribution” source from the virtual remote. You can only start it with your Beo4 in the relevant room. When you switch to Distribution, you’ll see all the items in the Source menu will be greyed out to reflect that.

As mentioned earlier it seems that focus ind development of LP2 was more focused on making it a local Media center than a distribution system to ML

First, congrats on the new black box for your collection

Sorry Mad, didnt see that one at first. Thanks. After four years collecting B&O stuff from Beograms to Beomasters, Beocords to Beosounds, Beoplay to bottle openers and minicars, Beolabs to Beovoxs, this where I’m congratulated two times in a week for being those black boxes! ? This is Beoworld…

it might also be the items that gives you the most headaches ?

have you tried the Beoport stand alone with the computer?

Not yet. But do you mean with Powerlink speakers or alone with earphones?

earphones also, just to rule out ML problems and focus on software issues

Also we might be able to find some info regarding stability on one of the old forums. I seem to remember long feedback threads

I guess the LP2 volume only reflects the PL connector on the Beoport box. You should probably still think of it as 2 rooms in ML terminology.

the unstabilities you mention sound a lot like what I experieced. I havent had luck masterlinking  mine yet though. Gotta try with the windows software one day.

I also had some cases where closing LP2 starting BM link and using that, then closing it and starting LP2 would help get things going. Havent seen a pattern in when what helps yet though

First, congrats on the new black box for your collection ?

First try: Beoport connected to the computer in USB and Mac Audio Out to Beoport Audio In. Bl3500 (Opt 6) connected to Beoport via Masterlink. The Mac is declared as Audiomaster in LP2. The Beoport seems to be seen because the windows says SW 1.3. Also the volume indicator from LP2 change when you turn it up or down. But no sound, no reaction from the BL3500. No clock either. I’m soldering a mini jack to an IR receiver to see if it changes something.

do the BL3500 react to n.radio or n.music commands?

    • When I work in the office and press “A.MEM”, then the BS3200 display shows the hard disk content and it starts spinning but I hear sound from SD-Card in the room.
    • When I work in the office and press “Radio”, then BS3200 display shows its FM radio channel but I hear sound from DAB+ in the room

It sounds like the BS3200 is reacting right and start up with the local source which it should when you are not using link commands.

But do the Beovision have the right option programming? I can’t tell from the drawing which TV is the Video master? It could be this TV, and therefore it might be programmed with option 1, and therefor starts playing the music from the Audiomaster (the Beosound 4) because of this option programming, while the BS3200 thinking it’s a local source starts it’s own sources.

According to the Masterlink handbook in this combination both the Beosound and the TV should be programmed with option 5

I am not sure if you the have to change the option programming one of the other TV’s to make it the video master, but maybe someone can chime in on that?

I’va done some reading i the linkplayer threads in the old forums, and this page has a lot of explanation on how things are supposed to work

    https://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/p/316/10223.aspx#10223

Note i have not read the thread to the end yet, so there might be updates to it

I got a little time to do some more testing, and I couldn’t let go of how to make use of the powerlink connector on the 1611.

    Here is what I tried:

I made a special Y cable from the powerlink out of a Beoport (Beoport not connected to ML). Pin 2, 3 and 5 from Beoport PL directed to pin 2, 4 and 1 on the AAL connector of the 1611. Pin 2 and 4 from the Beoport PL to pin 2 and 4 on the 1611’s PL connector.

The 1611 connected with ML to BC6.

The result almost the same as when I injected 3V to the PL connector in the 1611. The BC6 turns on on an Audio connection when the Beoport starts. The TV doesn’t turn off or change input when the Beoport software is closed og the Beoports power is removed.

In conclusion, nothing new regarding this, but at least it has now been tested. It might be that it will only work in combination with datalink signals on pin 6 of the AAL conenctor.

Please give input if you have some ideas for other variants of this test as I now has this special Y-cable until I need the parts for another adapter.

I suppose that this line-level output from ML could be useful to someone who wants to connect to another (make) system in a link room, or as an input into a PC soundcard
from the top of my head this could be a way to feed the line in on a Sonos system, and the do the volume control on the Sonos units.
As for the PC input it could be a poor mans link room where the PC’s own speakers are used. Control of music from the master unit (except volume control) would still be possible withe the IR eye and a BEO remote. Of course this could also be done through the PL connector with volume control with BEO remote

Four buttons: Light, Audio, Video and “all” in the center. You press to turn on TV, Radio or Lights and long press ton turn them off. Long press in the center turn off everything. The idea behind the A9 Keyholder was that when your leave your Beohome, you longpress the key holder and it shuts down all your stuff. No volume control, hence my comment on background listening…

ok a little more than I expected from that device

if the volume levels are set correct for the speaker volume control could then be done from the connected Phone/streamer etc. I guess

Just a thought – this device is now actually quite useful with the ‘dual-source’ BL1611/BL3500 combo! IMG_6512

how does that work? Is it just activating the audio or the video source? Guess there are not many control options

Further to the above, it would seem that the PC input was designed to be used with BeoLink PC Office (not the later Beolink PC2 or Beoport). I would think that the extra pins in the PC socket actually gave this Beolink PC Office all the functionality of being connected to ML (and PL), without being connected to ML (or PL)! Clearly none of this was needed when the Beolink PC2 was introduced with its own ML/PL sockets. EDIT: This from the Beolink PC Office User Manual – it’s the box nearest the computer: pc office

something doesnt fit in my head. The PC input is only shown in a usermanual called 2007 on Beoworld. The original Beolink PC office was only availeble from 1999-2001 and the superseeded by Beolink PC Office 2/Beoport. Off course there could be a manual for Beolink active inbetween that I dont see. sometimes I miss a printed date in those manuals

ok researched a little more and the picture on this site tell that Beolink Active 1636 was there at the same time as the first PC office.

    https://vintageaudiostore.com/products/bang-olufsen-b-o-beolink-pc-office-active-service-manual-original

The original Beolink active may only have been availeble for a few years then
