Following with interest still!  It’s a shame that Timer selection didn’t make any difference as there was a glimmer of hope there!

Yes I was just beginning to see something that might be what we were looking for in the first place. I thin I will try to test with the 1611 and the Powerlink  connector on that again in combination with the timer thing the newt time I have time to do a test

Hi again Madskp I have also had the thought, that the BL3500 in my absence has been connected to a BEO-Amp via a masterlink cable, and that the BL3500 somehow has been disconnected to the remote control, so that the BL3500 does not respond to any command via the Beolink 1000? Could that be the reason to the fact that I can’t deactivate the speaker to be an inactive speaker with the command MENU, 0,4,PLAY to the state “MCL SEL” ore any other command MENU 00-01-02-03-06 ore -09, PLAY ?? Have a Nice day / Peter

Hello again. I have a hard time imagining that the remote function should disappear because it was disconnected from another Masterlink product. You should always be able to do the basic functions like changing the options settings on a working unit.

New test. In this thread https://forum.beoworld.org/forums/topic/beolab-3500-and-1611-converter-settings/page/18/#post-18025 user ebnrob mentioned that the manual for Almando Masterplay box (for use with the BL3500 via Masterlink) requires the timer function on the BL3500 to be activated for the Almando Masterplay to activate the BL3500.

That made me think that it might be the missing link in activating the BL3500 with a 5V trigger signal. Also it makes sense as this is the only use case in a normal B&O MCL/ML system I can see where the master system activates the link room.

With ML turned off (Menu+0+9+GO)  I tried activating the timer, and injected 5V on Pin 6 (data) and 7 (data ground), but without no luck. No response at all.

Also tried injecting the 5 V on pin 1 and 7 as this was previously mentioned by the Reddit user who has this working. But again no response at all.

Will try to think further about this and also think if there is a way to replicate it via Masterlink.

Interesting thread! I have my BL3500 connected to a 1611 converter running as the audio master together with a BLGW. I made a din to RJ45 cable to connect the 1611 to a Core and wrote a couple of macros for the BLGW to turn the BL3500 on and set to N.MUSIC when the core starts playing and switch it off after 30 seconds of no playback. Volume’s set to start at 60 on the 3500 and I use an essence wheel paired to the core for control + the B&O app. It all works really well, however it would be good if I could take the BLGW out of the equation and have the 3500 trigger on/off by itself. I did consider the Almando masterplay box but the cost was too much… 300 EUR vs. £30 for the 1611! The Almando requires the 3500 timer function to be On all the time for the 3500 to trigger on.. I wonder if this is just a voltage signal down the masterlink cable ?

Thanks for your interest in this thread. I have also started a related thread regarding the MCL/PL connector on the BL3500 which might also be of interest to you https://forum.beoworld.org/forums/topic/bl3500-and-the-mcl-pl-connector/

I think your input regarding the timer function sounds very interesting and promising. I have never used the timer function, but as I think of it, it might be the one use case where the music in a link speaker is actually started from the main system, and therefore by some sort of trigger. So it might be that this trigger is dependent on the link speaker to have an active timer.

I will have to research this further and do some testing.

    Again thanks for the input

Hello. I just got some time to try something with this on my setup. I have BMlink installed on a 2006 iMac.

Tried to connect it to my Beolab 3500 in option 6, I could not get the BL3500 to activate or play sound from the Beoport.  Also tried connection the Beoport to my BC6 in option 2, and also no reaction.

However using the LP software I could, however this also have some quirks.

There arent many options in BMlink, so I have a hard time seeing what could be wrong, as hardware vise it is working.

BTW. I don’t think that the LP software is PPC compatible.

    A little more testing.

Beoport (opt. 6) and connected speakers + PC – 1611 converter

Adding the command V.MEM i could acitvate (from the Beoport interface)  and listen to music connected to Pin 2, 3 and 5 on the AAL connector of the 1611 converter. Control with Beo4 was also possible.

    Beoport (opt. 6) and connected speakers + PC – 1611 converter -MCL2AV (opt. 2.5) – Beocord 3500 + Iphone

Even better here, adding the commands A.MEM and CD it was possible to select those from the  Beoport interface, and also control the Beocord from it. Also possible with the remote control. Only thing not possible is to activate the tape and CD inputs on the MCL2AV without a remote control as the SHIFT+RADIO+6/7 can’t be used directly from the Beoport interface.

All in all a smooth test, and makes me think that this will probably also work from a Beosound 5.

Got a little time for testing today, and choose to try to replicate Guys earlier findings with my Bl3500 with SW. 1.1 the 1611, MCL2AV type 2020, Beocord 3500 and an Iphone.

    BL3500 in L.OPT 1, 2, 5 or 6/MCL2AV in L.OPT 2.5 or 2.6

I can select and play SHIFT RADIO 6 from the BL3500 room (this doesn’t start the PL speakers connected to the MCL2AV).  However, after selecting/controlling the BL3500 I cannot then select or control anything within the MCL2AV room.  Even Mute or Volume don’t work, even though the IR receive LED is flashing on the MCL2AV’s IR sensor.  Also the IR sensor MUTE button has no response.  The MCL2AV room will only work again if I turn the system off and re-set the MCL2AV option settings.

I get almost the same results with my setup, but I cannot activate the BL3500 with the Shift + Radio + 6/7 commands without using a “clean” audio command first. Also the display on the BL3500 will the show the audio command I used first IE A.TAPE

All control of Beocord 3500 is possible, and playing from all sources including the MCL screw terminal with the RADIO or PHONO command.

Also no control in the room where the MCL2AV’s IR reciever is located.

    BL3500 in L.OPT 1, 2, 5 or 6/MCL2AV in L.OPT 1.5 or 1.6

Independent control in both rooms is possible (has to be same MCL2AV source in each room).  Can switch on (or mute) independently from either room, and ‘join’ by pressing just vol or mute in MCL2AV room (but you have to press the full SHIFT RADIO 6 to ‘join’ in the BL3500 room).  The MCL2AV IR sensor’s MUTE switch works to join or mute once sound is already playing in the BL3500 room.  A good useable outcome!

Same thing here, I cannot activate the BL3500 with the Shift + Radio + 6/7 commands without using a “clean” audio command first. Also the display on the BL3500 will the show the audio command I used first IE A.TAPE

All control of Beocord 3500 is possible, and playing from all sources including the MCL screw terminal with the RADIO or PHONO command.

I can play individually in the two room, but can only join with a “clean” audio command first, and the shift+radio+6/7 if I use these sources. Mute switch on MCL2AV also works for joining the music playing on BL3500.

Firstly, to avoid thread drift, I have moved Peter’s questions about his non-responsive BL3500 to a new thread here: https://forum.beoworld.org/forums/topic/bl3500-not-responding/ (I have PM’d Peter to explain) Secondly I must apologize because I have not had time this week to experiment further with my BL3500 – hopefully next week!

    Great, thanks for informing.

Haven’t had much time for experimentation this week either, but will hopefully have some  time for it this weekend

You can get acces to the service and usermanuals if you become a silver og gold member of Beoworld:

    https://www.beoworld.org/what.asp

The servicemanual for the MKI version of the BL3500 is called LCS9000 servicemanual.

regarding spare parts I would look on Ebay, or maybe search for a donor unit locally

You could try to press LINK, 2, STORE first just to be sure that its not in Option 0 (No IR).

not sure if it helps or if these Service menu commands works either way

No 2. show the “:” in the display when connecting to power, but it does not respond to the command MENU,0,4,PLAY, nore MENU,0,0 PLAY ore MENU,0,9,PLAY on the remote control?

It could be that it is the MKII version with the Powerlink connector. The MKI has MCL engraved in the metal under the DIN connector, where nothing is engraved on the MKII version.

Try pressing MENU, MENU, 0, 4, PLAY and see if it helps? All these things require an extra menu press on the MKII version of the BL3500

Good ideas – I will try all of them but not for a few days …

Great to get more inputs about this.

In the meantime I couldn’t let go of the idea of the datasignal in powerlink which seems to be couple with the MCL and AUX data signals in some products. I also discovered that in the Beolink Passive / ML/MCL converter the datasignals from powerlink and MCL is also connected, but with a couple of resistors betwen them. According to the user manual the ML/MCL converter should be able to drive MCL products from the Powerlink in a Beosystem 2500 (at least thats whats illustrated in the manaul)

As I don’t have any  products with both powerlink and MCL connected internally I tried with the MCL2AV (where these signals are separated in the microcomputer) just to see if I got better results than the no reaction when I tried it with my BC6.

MCL2AV in option 1.5 where powerlink is active, and a custom cable to the BL3500:

    MCL2AV pin 2 – > BL3500 pin 3, 5 and 7

    MCL2AV pin 3 – > BL3500 pin 1

    MCL2AV pin 5 – > BL3500 pin 4

    MCL2AV pin 6 – > BL3500 pin 6

Tested with the setting ML off in the BL3500 service menu (Menu+0+9+GO)

Beocord 3500 conencted to the MCL2AV Tape connector

I can not activate the the Beocord from the BL3500. But if I start playback from the MCL2AV’s IR eye, I can use any audio command to turn on the BL3500 and the sound will play. Volume control is a little unstable. Somtimes the sound is very low, and I can’t control it, and sometimes its fine. I guess the volume on the MCL2AV does have to be at a certain level as the MCL connection on the BL3500 has some circitry to compensate for various volume in an MCL network.

So aperently the datasignals can’t be used for control in this case, but is enough to keep the BL3500 alive. Voltage on the data signals measured to 4,75V but again not sure it can be used for anything.

That’s a logical explanation – I can’t think of any other reason for this anomaly. I would test this with mine but I don’t have a controllable input device other than the OneRemote radio which may behave differently.

Or maybe your DVD1 with the custom cable?

Another thought for tests if you feel like it. The Oneremote can be setup to AAL. Could it communicate directly with the BL3500? And maybe the same with the DVD1.

Dont know if it helps anything if your TV is an early version, but here are pictures of the connection menus on my BC6 where its DVI that is chosen as a HDTV input

I don’t think PC should be present on the TV’s ‘connections’ menu; it is usually just accessed by pressing PC.

I can confirm that is the case for an early model of BV6 I had.

On my current Beocenter 6 though the PC command can be choosen for any input, and the DVI connector is on AV3 but is shared with the component connectors. In the AV3 configuration I think you have to select HD or something like that to us the DVI connector. I cant get to the TV right now (sleeping child in front of it), but I can check up on it tomorrow if you don’t find it yourself before that.

Madskp wrote: Can the BL3500 work on the AUX conenctor on other           Audimasters? Or the MCL2AV?

I have made a test with the MCL2AV that I have, although it’s unstable at the moment, so the result will have to be verified. But using the same cable that I used for the BM5500 I tried to connect the BL3500 directly to the MCL2AV’s AUC connector, and my Beocord 3500 to the tape connector of the MCL2AV. No IR eye or speakers connected to the MCL2AV. I was then able to start the Beocord 3500 through the BL3500 and play/stop/FF/RW/step forward and backward, so datalink commands was passed through from AAL to AL signals. However I got no sound through. Tried again with the BM5500 just to check that my cables were ok and it still worked. I have to get my MCL2AV going stable again or get another one, but I think the control signal part is interesting.

Got the MCL2AV fixed. Ended up replacing the last 3 transistors in the power supply circiut, and now it seems to be stable, so continuing testing.

I am still able to control the Beocord 3500 from the Beolab 3500 via the MCL2AV and my custom cable, but still no sound. What I didn’t notice in my earlier test was that A.TAPE is displayed for a couple of seconds on the BL3500 and the it goes back to showing the clock, just like it does when nothing is connected to it.

So it seems that the BL3500 is passing the control signals through to the MCL2Av, but is not getting the signal back it needs to confirm that the source is at the other end and therefor is not playing any sound.

Compared to the BM5500 the data signals on the MCL and AUX is connected to different pins on the Microcomputer in the MCL2AV, and might therefore have differences that makes them incompatible, so this might only work for certain Beomasters/Beocenters where the signals are internally connected.

Interesting results so far – the fact that the MCL2AV AUX socket connection allowed control was useful, but I too don’t understand why there was no sound. I thought that pins 1 and 4 always output the sound from MCL2AV. My gear is put away at the moment so I think it will be next week before I am able to try anything similar (with a known working MCL2AV), but until then I will be following with interest!

I am also confused as to why the sound is not comming through as it is from the BM5500 that also output sound on pin 1 and 4. I think I will have to focus on fixing the instabilities in my MCL2AV to be sure of the results.

I have also tried to modify the cable a little and make a connection from the Powerlink sockets on my BC6 to the BL3500 just to see if that could do anything. No luck though. The Tv playing music on the V.MEM input from an analog source. The BL3500 just turns on briefly shoving V.TAPE, and then turns off again.

I think BC9500 is the same (TV AUX pin 6 connected to MCL speakers).  So the data going over an MCL system is Audio Aux Link (AAL)

Probably that is. However on any product diagrams they are lead to different pins on the microcomputer in the product. This could of course be for other reasons like not passing a standby all signal through the entire system chain, but only to components in the same room.
