Has anybody here managed so far, to add a pair of older Beolab speakers via Powerlink to the Theater?
Tried to hook up my BL5’s to the Theater using Powerlink via the App. When i ran the process through the app, the Theatre detected connections at the Powerlink sockets, turned the BL5’s on and tried to send a testing sound to them, but there was no sound to be heard. After a while the BL5’s shut down again.
Similar experience when trying to run room sense with the BL90’s wired over Powerlink. In that case the App completely shut down.
23 November 2022 at 07:31 #37683New user here, and sorry if I’m asking anything out of order here. I’ve been looking at ways to improve my aging system and have been thinking about a complete overhaul. I currently have a Sony Bravia, with a Pioneer Elite AVR 5.1 system. Nothing about my system is easy, the ARC to the receiver often powers it down, when the tv powers on, and the selection of inputs, along with the slow google OS on the tv, makes it impossible for my wife to even turn on the tv when I am not there. So I want to simplify, but not necessarily lose a ton in sound quality. I’m in a converted warehouse loft space with 16ft ceilings and a pretty open living space. Just trying to provide as much flavor as possible. My wife will be on board with this if it’s easy to turn on, and select cable or streaming, with one remote, and she really likes the appeal of no wires. We use AppleTV, and our cable box as the two main input sources. I guess, I’ll have to travel to a dealer to be able to see/hear in person, but the specs seem like it’s powerful enough to put out enough sound. I’m hung up on adding rear surrounds. I believe I am reading it correctly, that if I want to add two wireless speakers, the only wireless standard supported is WISA, and am I correct that when I look at B&O’s product offering on their website, for a wireless rear surround option, the BeoLab 18’s are the least expensive option at $11k per speaker? None of the Beosound series of speakers will function wirelessly on the WISA standard? Will any of the Beosound series work via power link in a wired application? Reading this thread, it seems like many of you have extra legacy speakers ready to be called into service as surrounds, but if, like me, you are building from scratch it seems a little daunting. I owe it to myself to get to an actual dealer, to ask a lot of the same, but until then, appreciate the insights provided here.
I switch to B&O for the same reason, my girlfriend never used my older system with Marantz reciever.
So the Beolab 18 is 11K for a pair, so half the price you thought. Also it is always possible to get some discount, if you buy a lot.
In 2023 you will be able to use the Beosound that are Mozart, which will be much cheaper, but when in 2023 no one knows, but they are working on it.
It is always possible to start with the Teatre and then add surround later.
23 November 2022 at 07:41 #37684how long is the included HDMI cable which comes with the BeoSound Theatre? (I guess same question applies for the ethernet RJ45 cable and power cable).

I didn’t measure them but estimate 0.75 to 1.0m. I would state that there is just enough to connect from a 65 panel to the BSTH, plus a couple of spare centimetres.

I added a +10yr old BL3s without issue. I imagine that you may have a cable/adapter cable/channel switch issue?
Is a coax connected to the BL5 to another digital source? Remember, coax carries the signal, powerlink the volume signal? Disconnect if you do and retest?

No coax connected to the BL5’s … just Powerlink and quite the same issue while trying to connect the BL90’s via Powerlink.
Dealer says, it is a known problem supposed to be solved with SW update.
Then again you managed to get your BL3’s connected with Powerlink. Have to talk to B&O, i guess.

Strange behaviour? As I’ve indicated way way back, Loading the LG App was a problem that my Dealer had to do remotely, BeoApp in the BSTH was straightforward.
Adding the BL90/BL3 was again very straightforward. The only eyebrow raiser is that when you add speakers, you see the Soundbar and two + boxes. Intuitively, you would place FL and FR but no. You add FL and branch-off RL, and the second +, you add SL and branch off SR
23 November 2022 at 16:03 #37689Mission completed … everything works as promised now.
Had a longer phone call with the dealer today, after he got further info/instructions from B&O.
It is impressive what the Room Compensation via the Theatre did to the BL5’s … big benefit!
Theatre and BL5 up front and BL17 as rears … i like it a lot. Still have to place the BL5’s correctly … few centimeters here and there
Chill area for kids and friends ready now.
23 November 2022 at 16:07 #37690Problem with the BL90’s and Powerlink was, that it has to be set to low latency when operating the Room Sense process. After i did that, everything worked fine.
Quick pic from sunday after an exhausting build up session … still few visual quirks … need a longer mains cable and will have to re-do some of the cableing, but that should be easy.
23 November 2022 at 17:05 #37691That’s interesting. When I did room sense, it just worked but I did not look to see if it was in high/low latency. I think I was in auto (video, low latency).
I gave B&O support feedback on the App this morning: that is if you play BL90 via XLR (configured to narrow mode/high latency) and go to standby, then fire up TV, there was a sync error and the BL90 stayed in narrow rather than auto select (0) to wide mode. So, it appears the BL90s aren’t fully integrated yet??
Nice setup BTW
24 November 2022 at 11:07 #37692very impressed with my Theatre so far, voice clarity is exceptional ; far away fro the eclipse.
One issue I have;
On the app one can choose to add a source to beoremote, when i do this they dont all appear? Is that my error?

I think there is a bug which i have raised with B&O support.
The App transfer enables 10 items to TV and 10 items to Music. I have found renaming a source too many times may cause it to lock-up and default to HMDI… Reset of BSTH is the only way I have found so far.
Also, the LG Player App (i.e. my DNLA network server), Amazon Music App cannot be moved to the music button.
24 November 2022 at 11:45 #37694My Theatre is being delivered and installed this Saturday. I opted for the table mount with theatre on a 65” screen and no wings. Dark oak speaker cover. This is certainly the biggest shift I have gone for in terms of setup and I will see how I like music through this system. Definitely, the Mozart platform opening up for more flexibility will be something to consider down the road.
24 November 2022 at 12:15 #37695i’m contemplating what rear speakers to wall mount, to go with a setup of Theatre+Front/Left Beolab9’s.
I’m between Beosound Shape, Beolab 12, or Beolab 17 – any clear recommendation or rule-out?
24 November 2022 at 15:23 #37696Nice setup – are you 17s hardwired to the Theatre or connected via WISA?
Just asking, as I’m going to add rear 17s to my (upcoming) Theatre, and need to use WISA to connect. Hoping that it works well with the Theatre (via WISA)!!
24 November 2022 at 16:32 #37697Short version = stop the hating on 17s on WiSA. It is your surroundings not the speaker reception than causes interference.
Long version = I have used WiSA with BL17s for 6 years… on Avant 55 Gen 1, Eclipse 55 Gen 1, Eclipse 55 Gen 2 and now Theatre with G2 65. The 17s are rock solid in their connection. I have 3 sets of 17s connected. My shortest distance to a 17 is 0.6m and my furthest is 6.4m (in another room). The connection quality is better since my dealer arrange for all to have the latest software update. It is my BL19 that was problematic on WiSA and had this wired, but in truth I prefer WiSA because always on, rather than me looking each time I change listening position to see if the green light appears.
24 November 2022 at 16:52 #37698I connected a pair of BL17’s wireless to the Theatre without problems. Distance is 4.5m.
24 November 2022 at 17:25 #37699not hating on the WISA issue – havent gone that route yet, so just a bit cautious etc.
Glad to see / hear that it seems to work well enough with the Theatre.
24 November 2022 at 17:26 #37700Another thing I cant seem to do is to select wide or narrow mode on beolab 28 via the BR1
Can anyone do this?
24 November 2022 at 18:42 #37701but in truth I prefer WiSA because always on, rather than me looking each time I change listening position to see if the green light appears.
Always on can also wired be established, just a setup thing!
