26 January 2025 at 08:56 in reply to: Speech Intelligibility issue with AppleTV and surround settings 5.1 and 7.1 #63091
Thank you both
The centre speakers are the televisions left and right (bv not bl – my error) and yes the Apple TV is set to auto, the other setting is very inconsistent! They are more than fine on most programs and apps, there are just some that seem overly quiet on the vocals and that also seems to align with them being encoded at something higher than 5.1. ‘Disclaimer’ on AppleTV+ and bits of ‘Black Doves’ on Netflix are recent examples. Large swathes of iPlayer and Netflix are absolutely fine.
I have adjusted the speakers a little – making the two front BL-18s Left Wide and Right Wide helped a good chunk without destroying the surround experience – this is due to a chimney and other physical features of the room. They are maybe slightly closer to that position in reality than the desired Front L and Front R.
The Centre channel is also pushed higher than the others – but I have given it an extra bit. The time alignment is interesting – it is set accurately with a laser measure but I am giving the above a go.
You might be able to get close enough with an FLIRC
A little light googling indicates that they can control ps4 others might indicate the best PUC to trigger it
So mine seems to have now cleared.. I have not heard from support so I don’t know if this is a fix or whether it eventually clears on its own.
I confirm identical behaviour! In an odd way – I feel it is better that it is not just me.
I contacted B&O support last week on both the Google Play store issue and this recurring privacy notice. The response back regarding the privacy notice is as follows:
We can confirm that this issue has been identified and reported to our Product Development team, who are actively working on a resolution. We kindly ask for your continued patience as they finalize a solution, which will be made available as soon as possible. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and greatly appreciate your understanding.
My response was appreciative but included asking for greater clarity of the timeline and also an offer to help if a manual software update is needed to fix it. My instinct is that the notice needs to see something on the internet that it can no longer get to or is no longer there. So that might be due to the Google Play store experience, the switching off of the NetTV service – or could be something else entirely!
It is trying to get to here: https://www.bang-olufsen.com/privacy-policy (if I click the Privacy Policy option) which produces the error message ‘Error while loading page. Select Try Again to reload the page’.
I swear I followed the link last week and it went somewhere – it produces this for me today from a PC browser:
Our services aren’t available right now
We’re working to restore all services as soon as possible. Please check back soon.

Might have been too quick off the mark… just hit refresh and it re-directs to: https://www.bang-olufsen.com/en/gb/legal/privacy-policy
A note of thanks as this post dug me out of a very deep hole with my BV14-40. Like others I use it with an AppleTV rather than as a smart tv and enjoy it’s architectural values (rather than the software that it runs…)
Over the weekend I made what turned out to be a rash decision to rebuild it – in an attempt to see if it would clear some processing lumpiness. Despite checking that I had all the settings, and that I could log in to google – I had not factored in that it would drop back to such an old set of software it would not be able to log in. Cue a VERY late night, new google accounts, app passwords – all of which did not work.
Using the ADB and Fastboot MSI on my PC and the APK Mirror archive there was then ALOT of attempts to sideload a working version of the software on to the machine. On the BV14 the suggested version here of 22.26.15 caused it to crash repeatedly. The Horizon might be more tolerant of it. Also this might be a lot less command line with an Android phone and the APK mirror app…
For the command: adb install -r yourApp.apk
The additional ‘-r’ was very important as often it would fail saying it was already installed.
Eventually (and I mean hours and hours..) later I had success with an older version – 12.8.74 – of the Google Play Services which was enough to allow me to log in to Google store – the system then began to update itself and is now fully functional again. This file: 12.8.74_(020300-204998136) for armeabi-v7a (page 26 at the time of writing!)
I have not updated Youtube manually.
It has automatically updated to 24.28.35 (080306-657754416)
One issue (possibly seperate) remains that the main B&O Privacy notice which now appears every time the TV is switched on and will not accept me clicking ‘Accept’, nor can it display the web page with either the Terms or the Privacy notices.. more to follow. My workaround is likely to be to block internet (but not local) traffic as it then doesn’t ‘try’.
I may have another go at this now that I know what to do..
Given B&O’s Cradle to Cradle philosophy – I really do think they need to address this sort of issue with a formal solution, I will attempt to raise it via the dealer.
As a final note – once I had figured out all of the nuances it WAS straightforward to do this.
