I repurposed my Theatre front L/R to act as centre subs.

On another note I’ve been absolutely dying for someone to use two A9’s as front speakers for 10 years. With DPL that seems possible.

My question is why have Bang & Olufsen effectively lost confidence in the Theatre’s surround performance. With the use of the virtual speakers you can obtain a 7.0.4 system from the sound bar without the need to add any extra physical speakers.

I am uncertain about your reference. B&O consistently promotes the Theatre with at least two rear speakers (28’s) in all their marketing materials, emphasizing the concept of “building your system.” While the Theatre on its own provides adequate sound, its virtual speakers lack the external speaker capability to enhance its performance. I experimented with using the soundbar alone for a day and noticed a noticeable lack of width, which was significantly improved when I added 18’s to the front and Beolab 3 rears.

Even with this setup, the Theatre transcends the limitations of a “center channel” speaker. It effectively creates a wide soundstage, and I repurposed the front wide speakers as subwoofers. The remaining speakers can also contribute to filling any wide voids in the sound.

Honestly, if the Theatre were solely a soundbar, I would not have been interested in it. The primary purpose of a soundbar is to provide a central audio experience, and the Theatre is more about the heart of your system. If you want just a soundbar get the Stage.

I think it’s a great idea and very welcome. For me its just strange to have portable speakers with batteries acting as a permanent surround speakers like the Level.

” In a fully wired setup, a wired connection between your router and Beosound/Beovision Theatre is mandatory.”

    Hmmm interesting, wonder why

So is it eating up my 5ghz or 2.4ghz bands. Does the Audio use a lot of bandwidth?

Seems the FAQ link in the first post is now working 🙂

Im confused as to what protocol this DPL uses. If I have a beosound 2 and I connect it to my Theatre wirelessly what protocol does it use to transmit? it is using WIFI direct somehow to WISA or what?

I thought that was something you can just turn off in settings?

To B&O defence they are still supporting and updating the firmware of my Essence Mark2 as of a week ago.  It NEVER gives me any problems with the 9000 and the essence remote is a nice addition too.  The Essence really has all the features we expect like Airplay 2, streaming and multiform so Im not too concerned about support. If someday they stop adding features I feel I need I will just replace it with a new or old Core.

Anything anyone is hoping for feature wise?

I have a beosound 9000 that I’ve connected an essence mark2 and  I connect my speakers to the essence and not the 9000.  With this setup I can play any net radio to the speakers (bypassing the 9000), Airplay etc.  Multiroom also works.  Basically the 90000 is used just to play the CD’s which is does wonderfully.  Would this device offer any advantages if I connect to the 9000 and used it over the essence?

Thank you for making this app as it’s useful.  If there a way to replace the icon in the top menu bar as well?

Strangely the app doesn’t see my Theatre either.

For me it’s not the colour that matters even though it goes against (UX standards considerations to make design distinctions by just using colour).  It’s the fact that the interface is the same for both.  Sometimes I want to connect to another speaker but all I end up doing is adding this new speaker to play multi room.

Correct. And this is logical to you?

The only thing I find incredibly weird in the current app is that the interface from switching products and selecting multiform speakers is very similar to one another and I sometimes do one when I mean the other.

This might go against popular opinion but this new version seems to be on the right track in terms of UI. Still a bit wonky though.
