as they should, like their other WISA speakers.

I’ve been pleasantly surprised by my WISA 17s, which have been perfect with my Theatre.

same as below, I’ve had 3.2.1 for a few days now, and no volume issues on either of my Theatre setups (one is standalone, one has 50s/17s also attached). No volume issues post update on either.

Watched a blu-ray (i.e 5.1) last night on my larger setup – i.e good quality signal – and volume 40 was perfect.

Watching the same content now on my standalone bedroom Theatre – this time from Paramount+, which only gives a PCM 2.0 signal – and I need volume 53.

Otherwise though,  when it comes to the 3.2.1 update, no changes or issues here.

As below, they are not going to make a BL speaker with upfiring speakers.

My interpretation of the OPs question was whether there was something coming that could be used easily as a height speaker, i.e. mounted up high – as since the demise of the 3s/17s, there has been nothing in the portfolio. With the BL8s now, there is something.

They are not going to make a BeoLab – be that something like the 18s, 28s, 50s etc – with extra upfiring drivers on the top.

Surely the BL8 announced last week is what you talking about?

Sonos have done the same on their latest speakers too – not sure if there is some industry wide thing going on to prompt numerous manufacturers down this route.

Agreed, and similarly here i think this has further reduced in my mind the chance of Mozart surround coming to Balance, BS2 etc.

I asked this q on the podcast last week – many / most seem to assume that this capability was coming, but i had already grown sceptical.

So that I understand, what delays are you referring to?

Pretty sure that these 8s will work just like 28s i.e when you stream to them, or use their built in streaming, they work in Beosound mode (i.e independent of any connected BV).

My comment earlier was perhaps not clear – the scanning sweet spot feature (using UWB and your iPhone) is what i was referring to – that capability (on the 8s) only works with 1 or 2 (i.e 2.0) 8s.     When they are part of a broader home cinema setup, that sweet spot UWB scanning feature wont be active.

It has powerlink connections for TV, so i dont see why there would be any delays.

This feature only applies for 2.0 music, not when they are part of a surround (e.g Theatre) setup. From what i read.

They can be very much bought separately.

After all, the BL8 page on the website says that they have made 3 new speakers – a standalone BL8, a stereo pair, or BL8s for use in a home cinema setup.

Airplay 2 are CC are included.

Christian has confirmed it over on Discord.

The spec sheets are often incorrect pre-launch.

In his words, Balance like source specs but with PL and WISA

They are at the lower end of what i expected price wise too.

But i guess once you include the mount price, and the absurd wood price (same as the Theatre wood?!) a pair of these will end up at close to 6K GBP, and 6.5k Euros.

Not that i need these myself, I’ll stick with my 17s as rear/surrounds.

the satellite speakers won’t be any less than 6k USD. My best guess is somewhere in the 6-8k range. They are supposed to be Beolabs after all.

18s went up a very small amount.

European prices are all quoted inclusive of sales tax.

Not sure about specific prediction from the company, more that by targeting the super wealthy they insure themselves somewhat against ups and downs of a global economy that is fragile, and likely to have semi frequent issues over the media term.

As a strategy it has some logic, and as I said above, it may well work out (to a greater extent), even though we may not like it.

Yes, you’ve summarised it pretty well (although doubling of margin is not quite their aim, as that would be unrealistic!).

But otherwise it can be summarised as this : the strategy has changed to target the VHNWI’s, as that is where they think the money is, especially for luxury brands with some halo desirability associated.

This has various implications, be it a comfort with high visibility collaborations, moving some previously standard colours into custom/bespoke, more flagship experience stores, true exclusive luxury pricing etc etc.

There’s also a geographical market focus shift involved too, with a downplaying of China as a growth opportunity, and a re-emphasis of North America.

Additionally, there is some implicit comfort in not trying to expand sales volumes, and an acceptance that selling less for more is not a bad result. It at least ensures that supply / production overhangs won’t occur if the economic environment has a down period.

Both here and on Discord there is much discomfort at this new strategy, though while I don’t like it at all for my tastes / wallet, I wouldn’t be so quick as others to dismiss it as doomed to fail.     They’ve had some success in targeting the wealthier ends of London / Paris (which is having a mini boom) and spots in America.

They will certainly need to raise support levels to satisfy the ultra wealthy clients, who will be less tolerant that we are of software glitches.

But that caveat aside, there is non trivial chance that as a medium term survival strategy, it may work out.

allow me a pedantic, but I think non-trivial, correction.

They changed their description of target market segments from HNWI’s to Very HNWI’s.

In that context, the recent adding of 2000 GBP/EURO to the base price of a Theatre makes sense.

                                        Absent that context, it doesn’t.

I have my setup as a dual purpose, in a similar way that you are looking at.

For TV, my BL50s (and surround BL17s) are connected to my TV (Theatre) with power link cables.

For music, I have a 3rd party streamer / DAC connected to my 50s via analogue RCA cables. (The streamer/DAC also picks up/integrates my local music library, on top of Qobuz)

As a dual purpose system, it works perfectly.

If you dont want to introduce a streamer/DAC, then you’ll easily find a streamer alone that will combine streaming services and your local library, and is capable of more than 24/96.   Whether you need more than 24/96 is your choice of course, and what music UI you want is again personal.  But if a Core doesn’t tick your boxes, there are plenty of 3rd party units that will do what you want.
