Strange… my B&O repairer (AV Services) say that B&O have an exchange programme for the chassis – it’s returned to B&O and they send a refurbished (and programmed one) back. I suggest you ask your dealer to talk to B&O.
One of my Beolab 5 has gone faulty. What happens is that when switched on, it emits a tone (sort of mid-range) then cuts off and the light turns to a flashing red.
I’ve left it off for an hour or so, but still has the same ‘feature’
what could be the diagnosis – worst case, I’ll have to have the chassis replaced – in which case I’d do the pair just in case.
I was hugely impressed with the build; I could open it while it was on the stand, and the modular approach of build was really impressive. The only weak point will be the panel itself and third-party electronics.
Replaced the capacitor, re-installed – and all working again.
Found the busted capacitor – it’s a EMI suppression capacitor that failed with much smoke. Not sure that this is the only component that failed as the screen did go off when the capacitor blew up, but I’ll put a new one in and see.
Actually – never mind – it came off when I was lifting it off the stand. It seems like it pushes up about 5mm then just pops out.
Before going to a B&O dealer or repairer – does anyone have a PCB04 Power supply for the Beovison 4-46 spare?
The PSU blew up spectacularly with a lot of smoke – and quite a smell so I though it would be one of the power capacitors, but having taken the board out, I can’t see any blown capacitors.
Revisiting this – the power board on my Beovision 10-46 blew up and I’m trying to get access to the board (PBC04).
I’ve undone the 6 screws at the back, but can’t see how the aluminium frame and glass ‘slides’ off. I can’t find a service manual that shows the removal of this – so I thought I’d ask if someone had done this – and how did they do it?
..and what was that? Still can’t get the BBC on the beosound 5!
I’d suggest firstly downloading the manual for the Beomaster 5 and beosound 5. What you are plugging in is just the screen (beosound5) power cable, you need also the DVI to HDMI cable and USB cables plugged from the Beomaster 5 to beosound 5 – so 3 cables.
really, check the manuals, then if there is still a problem, come back here and get some advices.
Thanks – I’m using ML and NL, so I doubt that these will help. I suspect that while DAB is still being used in the UK, I’m OK for now.
There was a concerning article in The Telegraph which said that stations would be moving to DAB+ in the UK (classic FM will do in January) although the BBC said they will support DAB for the foreseeable.
bit annoying that a DAB+ upgrade would cost about £700.
I guess you don’t have many David Lewis era speakers then. Converting the existing 8-pin DIN to RJ45 would be ideal – although as the audio isn’t balanced, the choice of cable would be important – maybe CAT6E wouldn’t be good enough..
Nice project! I really also like the RJ45 to ML block. If only someone could make this for PL, it would make speaker connections so much easier!
I’ve found some stream that work outside the uk for bbc radio. The ideal thing would be able to edit the radio database. Does anyone have the format or way of being able to patch the file ?
You’d think the hamburger widget on the right side would allow to re-organise, but it doesn’t for me – on both an iPad and iPhone
edit: works on iPhone, but you have to long press the widget. Not very intuitive!
Funnily enough, after some experimenting, it does work with the BLC, but in the random order shown in the app. If it were possible to organise the stations in the app, then that would be a good enough workaround.
Well finally to solve this, I bought from eBay a M3 and plumbed it into my BLC – which gave me B&O Radio. its a bit of a workaround, but it only cost £130 and fixed the problem.
Now to get BBC radio, my sources point to the M3.
It would be great if it just needs a change in the radio.db and a download of a new codec. If anyone knows the address of the bbc channels, maybe this would be possible.
as a stopgap, what device giving either B&O radio or TuneIn would I need to add to get these channels back? Ideally low-cost and can be hidden away.
I pinged B&O support again, and they are still stumped…… probably hoping we’ll all go away.
I’m not in the uk right now, so I accessed netradio in the uk remotely – and not sure it worked now. It certainly doesn’t work in Spain.
edit: no, NETRADIO doesn’t work for the BBC channels in the UK either. Beosystem 4, beovision 10 & 11.
my beosound 35 gets the BBC channels, but using TuneIn.
I wonder what devices would work – as B&O haven’t come up with a solution yet.
