Some progress has been made. The platter is sitting much flusher with the surrounds. There is a scraping sound when the tonearm reaches just past halfway point. At first I thought it was the stylus in the groove but I can hear the sound even when the tone arm is raised over the record.
Thanks for the reply. I opened the fuse box to take a look. I think I’ll order a few at 0.5a and just keep them in case. I’m not ready to turn it on yet as I am not in the final region but here in the UK the 4000 is working perfectly.
Nice well-considered review on all aspects of the 8s. I have mine as rears to the Theatre and I also enjoy music from them as well. The narrow mode was excellent while I’m not a huge fan of the wide. The whole L/R swap needs clarifying I agree it was very confusing. Keep enjoying them and congrats!
Great work there. Very neat and clean looking.
26 October 2023 at 23:26 in reply to: BeoVox 3000 (Flat Panel) Passive Loudspeakers: mounting advice please. #49676My 3000’s were placed about 2/3 the height of the room, connected to a Beogram 8000 and Beomaster. I only took them down late last year when the theatre arrived. I never had the original mounting bracket so I used hooks that required 9 tiny pins on each side, each hook could hold 16kg, overkill but kept them safe through 7 years of use.
The right speaker was closest to the window and after several years B&O lettering flaked off.
Essentially, a B&O mmc cartridge is a moving magnet “mm” so you need a phono preamp that can handle around 3.0mv output impedance from the cartridge. It depends on budget too, there are preamps with both mm/mc settings.
I wonder if dark oak will be available from October 30? As a match with silver. I see the anthracite is coming Feb 2024 so substantially later.
I think there’s a good case for going for the cloth version too, perhaps more versatility. I have the Theatre with dark oak/silver combo and although that aesthetic on the Beolab 8 would be great it kind of locks you in that given the fret cost.
”AdamS wrote:
I love them, but why on earth would you provide an analogue line-in using a USB socket? What next? Mains in via an 8 pin DIN socket?!”i agree but that’s how it is in the Theatre. So I had to buy the cheap looking adapter which I quickly dumped and now have line in from a pre-amp to an M3 then multiroom to the Theatre and BL3s.
I like the look of these very much. Not too interested in the top controls if you had a pair or full surround but that’s how Mozart goes I guess. For a pair, the cloth version is around ok but those frets, super pricey. Although, they kind of make the price I paid for the Theatre last Nov a bargain as a pair with frets is not far off.
.
As I recall when I had a similar issue was making sure to add each BL3. It’s not always abundantly clear on a phone screen. I have a rj45 splitter too.
I like some of Techmoan’s videos, I have experienced plenty of the audio gear he gets in over the years. His first A1 video commented how rare it was for him to consider a 200quid bluetooth speaker but noted how good modern tiny speakers can be. He certainly doesn’t promote B&O and yes it is a shame that some software bugs diminish the experience. I would also agree with him that a video about a portable bluetooth speaker is a dull subject indeed in most cases.
As for the B&O price hikes, I nearly fell off my chair. I checked on Sept 1st and here in Japan no change and then this morning on the 2nd…wallop! What I paid last year 1,000,040 yen is now 1,432,000yen (not including the TV vesa mount). Faced with that price today, I simply wouldn’t buy it. I had hoped B&O would release some satellite speakers for the Theatre at an “accessible” price point but I think if they do, the price will be eye-watering. I am glad to have had my nose touch the hem of a VHNWI’s garment but it may be the last.
I also don’t buy that A1s/Explore/Emerge etc are gateways for future VHNWIs. Those people could have been using Jabra or Anker and still walk into B&O and come out having spent $150,000 in the blink of an eye. I don’t believe they hold “brand loyalty”, not for B&O anyway.
v2.5.3
I see new Theatre software is available for a non-beta like me. Busy at the minute but will check it out at the weekend.
I think your cables might be good then if they’re already RCA, I know the TX is newer than my models. I misunderstood your first post when you said you got one you meant TX not a preamp. But yes, you’ll need a phono preamp. There are many on the market. Project do them, Ortofon, I have a Creek OBH-15. There are more reasonable ones too on Amazon or such.
What “preamp” do you have exactly? And where are you connecting it on the tube amp? I’ve never had an issue with getting my Beogram 8000/8002 to work with various setups.
I have the din cable from my Beogram to a din>RCA adaptor which goes into the input on the PHONO Preamplifier then RCA output to my amplifier. Are you sure that you are using a phono preamplifier? As that is not the same as a preamplifier. Sorry if I’m being obvious, I don’t know how deep you are into the Beogram/vinyl world!
(The m3 Millemissen’s great idea!) The M3 is wired to the home network and I use Beolink multiroom to play the record player
Actually the idea came from Henrik of the BOTF – maybe he even had it from a member of the BOTF. So kudos goes to Henrik….I was just the messenger.
Well then, credit to Henrik too. I guess the OP wouldn’t need the m3 with a Beosound 2? What I would say, yes get a decent phono preamp. I know there are a lot of differing thoughts here and I guess it depends how much vinyl you listen to but a link to a $60 Amazon phono preamp wouldn’t cut it for me and I’ve noticed big improvements on good line-in cable and a solid preamp.
I didn’t get much difference when I switched between line-in sensitivity so I stuck with ‘medium’.
For pure audio, you’d be better going the 28s route. I went with the Theatre and have a couple of BL3s as rears. It took me a long time to get a sound I liked from my Beogram record player with this setup and it is still a work in progress really.
I have the Beogram (no internal phono preamp) connected to an external phono preamp, then a 1 meter decent RCA to mini Jack cable to a Beoplay M3 with volume set to 0. (The m3 Millemissen’s great idea!) The M3 is wired to the home network and I use Beolink multiroom to play the record player through Theatre and sometimes just BL3s as I can assign speaker groups. I use BR One for volume, and Join function for multiroom.
alternatively I could use 12m of line-in cable to the Theatre but when I tried that, did not sound good. The specs seem great and I like the dark oak. I am just struggling to see where this fits into the product line or what need it is actually fulfilling. There is the level, Balance, Beolit, Beosound 2. It’s not for me anyway.
