With my Beolab 5’s one of the two 1000W amplifiers failed in each speaker after about 15 years. My dealer sent the compelete electronic modules to B&O Denmark where they became renewed, costing 1200 – 1300 Swiss Francs each. Work fine again.

This has annoyed me too, because B&O claimed that the Theatre will take additional speakers into their bass management in order to get the best out of the ensemble. But how doing this, when the additional Beolab speakers are connected via Receiver 1 and there is no way to tell the Theatre what additional Beolab speaker it is connected to? A couple of months ago there has been an important update of the App, and at last I could tell the theatre that tiny Beolab 3’s are working as rear speakers. I measured it in from scratch and now it sounds much better. I also noticed that before this revision the side speakers of the theatre were not engaged when rear speakers were used via receiver 1. Stereo side/rear effects were made only by balancing the front and rear speakers and this did not sound convincing. Now the side speakers of the Theatre are engaged as well, and the sound has become much more natural and immersive. Sorry, but this is how the product should have performed at its launch two years ago!

Anyhow, it appears sounding better than before with two Beolab 5 in the front, a Beolab 7.4 in the center and mentioned Beolab 3’s in the rear. Obviously it does not get that crazy loud, especially concerning the enormous bass of the Beolab 5, but there is  much less clutter standing around in the living room. Bass addicts still may add a subwoofer or two.

I am surprised that B&O does not explain this properly in the manual. So this remains at guessing level.

Hi. There was no problem with the installation. The question is specifically about the switch next to the connector for the external microphone. This switch is marked by a microphone symbol and when switched to one position a red LED next to the switch is lighting up. What is the function of this switch?

Hi. The discussion is about the function of the switch next to the plug-in connection for the external microphone. What is that switch for?

Ok. But what is the function of this switch? Internal microphones on or off? This is nowhere explained in the manual.

Yes, the BT has the bass parameters for older speakers, but when hooked up via Beolab Receiver 1/WiSA there is no way telling the BT to which one it is connected. This is rather stupid. Would require an add-on in the software.

I’m using BL3’s connected via WiSA. Works fine. However, the BT does not know that BL3’s are connected, and there is now way to tell this to the BT. Hence the loudspeaker-specific bassmanagement cannot work like it was appraised. This would need changes to the software. So far I have seen no indication that B&O has intentions to change this.

I heard that it will be a successor of the Beolab 3, e.g. a small speaker. Currently I’m using Beolab 3 as rears together with the Beosound Theatre.

Good luck, shut windows and doors, silence anything else in your room making noise. If it does not work again, then there’s probably something wrong with your item. Contact support then.

If you have contact to the people developing the app, please forward my query, thanks: When connecting older B&O speakers to the Theatre via WiSA using Beolab Receiver 1’s there is currently no way telling the Theatre which older B&O speakers are connected via WiSA (in my case Beolab 3 rear surrounds). Hence the bassmanagement cannot work as intended. Will this become fixed?

Are your BL 3’s connected via cables or using WiSA receivers?

The room should be quiet. Are you living in a unusually noisy place?

As far as I remember Bang&Olufsen are using another infrared frequency for their equipment than the IR frequency commonly used by other manufacturers. The Logitech Harmony will probably not work.

You may also consider selling the 7.2, both 6000’s, the sub, AVR and LG C9, and buying a last year LG TV and Beosound Theatre and keep the 8000’s as rears. I bought a last year LG B28 for less than 1000 Euro recently. I will sell my Beolab 5’s, the 7.4 center and my Marantz AV. My previous LG TV is already sold. Hence, now I am using the Beosound Theatre also for listening to music, and two Beolab 3 are serving as rears. Sounds great, and there is much less clutter standing around.

Hi. I got my Beosound Theatre two weeks ago. I am using two Beolab 3’s as rear surrounds using WiSA via two Beolab Receiver 1’s. Sound calibration worked and rear speakers are running smoothly. However, the app shows that two Beolab Receiver 1’s are connected to the Theatre, but not Beolab 3’s specifically. I find no possibility in the app to tell the Theatre that it is actually two Beolab 3’s connected to the WiSA receivers. Without this info speaker specific bassmanagement cannot work properly, right? Am I doing something wrong or will this become updated? Our listening room layout does not allow using cables for the rears…

Apart from that the product is really great. I prefer it to my previous setup with two Beolab 5’s  as fronts, a Beolab 7.4 as center and mentioned Beolab 3’s as rears (controlled by a Marantz 7703 processor preamplifier and using Beolab Transmitter 1 for the Beolab 3 rears). It sounds clearly more immersive and natural, and speech quality is also quite a bit better. Of cause it does not go that crazy loud as previously, but still more than plenty to make the neighbours angry…
