My Theatre was delivered on Friday and i hooked it up with my Beolab 90’s cabled via Powerlink. I also borrowed a BS Core for testing and paired it to the BL90’s and the Theatre. Now the Theatre won’t recognize the PL-Connection automatically … looks like a software bug. If i want to watch TV i have to choose wireless mode for the BL90’s via Beo-App … switching to music via Core using the BL90’s only requires interaction with the app again, in order to switch back to Powerlink input again manually. Any ideas? Could be my faulty work, too of course. Cheers Tom
What is the benefit of adding the core? The Theatre already has Mozart so it can be a music system as well. I don’t have a BS Core so I don’t know if the old ASE platform still has some tricks up its sleeve
I wanted to use the BS Core for listening to music (only) through a dedicated source/transport. When i listened to BL90’s in the B&O store using a BV Harmony compared to using a budget Bluesound Vault2 directly feeding the BL90’s via coax the same day, it sounded better without the TV in the chain.
That’s why i wanted to try the Core. TV and movies is not my priority with the BL90’s … for me it is 90% stereo music, und 10% surround music playing live concerts etc.. What would you suggest in order to exploit the best sound possible out of the BL90’s in stereo and alternatively in a 5.1 or 5.2 setup? I would think, that the BL90’s should benefit from a decent source feeding them.
My system speakerwise in the main living room is BL90 front, BS Theatre (floorstand) center, BL18 rear.
In another room it is BL5 front, BS Theatre (wall mounted) center, BL17 rear … and maybe BL19 as rear sub, have to try it out.
Screens are LG Oled G2’s in 77″ and 65″.
Have to find more time to play arround with the gear.

21 November 2022 at 12:53 #37644Different setup, similar experience here.
I feed music to my BL50s directly – via a 3rd party streamer / DAC – and it sounds better than if I route the same streamer through my BV (albeit my BV 12-65 is not one of the newer BVs).
My unit is a Linn streamer/DAC – I just didnt want to use a Core and / or the B&O app for music, nor just rely on Airplaying music to something as capable as 50s (or 90s in your case).

OK, lets see if this puts you on a track worth considering…..
- BV Eclipse (Mk1 with cr@ppy LG Music Player)
- BL90, Powerlink from BV to BL90
- Equals cr@appy sound. No other BS product worthy in my opinion – including Core.
- I purchased an Auarlic G2 stack, feed BL90s via XLR. Happy but have to control 3rd party products which are not fully integrated into B&O Ecosystem.
I added the BL90s to the BeoApp (if you had the original BL90 App – as good – even better). Placed BL90 Line-sense into Automatic. Next Powerlink, XLR, SPDIF etc…Set Thresholds and time-outs.
So for TV, Theatre all works properly with distributed sound. I have communicated to B&O (feedback as Beta user in Theatre-BeoApp) about Wide/Narrow/Omni settings and sync-ing needs some attention.
For the Auralic system, BL90s fires-up, hits narrow mode etc…. I use an Essence Remote in IR mode for volume control, Auralic DAC set to 100% XLR output, use the Auralic App for tracks, albums etc…. BS Core definitely not required or missed.
The only issue I had to watch (not tested on the BSTH yet), is when listening to Auralic music on the BL90, going to Sleep, the BL90s have a 60 sec minimum time-out to Standby. Firing up the Eclipse before the 60sec time-out, it recognised the BL90s as not available. This could be corrected on the BR1 control by List >> Speaker >> Video setting (video in my BR1 was to go to 5.1 sound, with Wide dispersion on the BL90).
Hopefully that helps?
21 November 2022 at 13:06 #37646B&O have just issued a BS Theatre update right now of v2.3.4.
Bugfixes and Stability improvements

Do you have a link for this? I know of the TV/surround guides but not for the Theatre specifically?
21 November 2022 at 13:26 #37648Thank you guys, for sharing your experiences.
I’ am going to test some streaming transports within next weeks … thinking about Antipodes K-Series and Grimm MU1, Innuos, Aurender and Nuprime Stream-9 … i could source the above locally and take them home for testing.
I did not buy the Core, just asked the dealer if he cluld lend it to me for a week … and he did.

Please give a description of connections of sources and cables. Sounds like there is some dirty noise getting into your system?Ethernet into the input port then two ethernet cables out (one to Apple TV, the other to xbox series s)
HDMI from TV e-Arc to Theatre, two HDMI inputs A has Apple TV and B has xbox series s
Nothing else connected.

So the simple stuff is to disconnect each one of the External device sources at the HDMI/LAN level behind the TV. Im sure you have done this already and I apologise if I come across as trying to teach you to suck eggs!!
Check the eARC. HDMI cable. I dont think the B&O supplied cable is directional but check just in case.
If that does not do anything, try running a long extension lead/power cord and power the BSTH and TV panel from different power sockets on different lines if you can?
The only reason I state this is I had a similar problem with my BL90s in the upper treble domes. (connecting with 3rd party audio separates, cables, and the Beovision). It was a dog to find the fault and only stopped when I plugged my 3rd party separates into a power regenerator to clean the power supply. Something was causing a ground loop hum.
There may be something much simpler (faulty BSTH maybe) but these are first things to test before calling your Dealer.

Don’t worry don’t think you are teaching to suck eggs. I tried without anything attached yesterday and just the Theatre plugged into the socket in the wall, but still got the issue sadly.
21 November 2022 at 14:08 #37652Hi
I have a problem with aux in, only one channel is playing. I’m using the original b&o supplied cable #6271374.
I’m using the same cable as before with my beosound core, but now just with the b&o mini jack to usb-c cable in to the theatre.
When I plug the minijack into a beoplay m3 and multirom it to the theatre, then both channels are playing.
I also got another minijack to usb-c adapter from my dealer, same problem.
Just tested after new software release, same problem.
Have anyone used the aux with the minijack to usb-c adapter?
Best regards
Allan

My fault … dealer sent me some documentary and i saw the BL90 technical sound guide and i also read BS Theatre in the file names … but no sound guide for the BS Theatre available so far.
21 November 2022 at 14:25 #37654To be more precise about my Powerlink issue with the Theatre:
When i have the BL90 connected and setup in the App as Powerlink, the room compensation measurement process for a 5.1 speakergroup using the microphone is stopped as soon as the signal hits the Powerlink connected BL90’s. It works though, when the BL90’s are set up and connected as wireless to the Theatre in the App. Then it is possible to get a room corrected speaker group preset and the process functions as expected.

You should be able to setup a listening position on your Theatre with only the Beolab 90, then you have a B90 only stereo setup with the Theatre acting like a Mozart “BS Core” 🙂

Still would not solve my issue, as it is only possible connecting the BL90 as wireless to the Theatre, creating a room corrected speaker group. And in addition to that, i’d have to deactivate the Theatre speakers in the configuration menu of the speaker group, in order to get pure stereo mode.
21 November 2022 at 14:51 #37657… wireless has restricted/less resolution.

I might have missed something, but can’t you just connect the Beolap 90’s with powerlink to your Theatre? Or is it because you want optical or similar instead? 🙂
21 November 2022 at 15:04 #37659To be more precise about my Powerlink issue with the Theatre: When i have the BL90 connected and setup in the App as Powerlink, the room compensation measurement process for a 5.1 speakergroup using the microphone is stopped as soon as the signal hits the Powerlink connected BL90’s. Ive just been playing with this very aspect (I think).
This is what I have done so far, and have yet to test it critically.
- Listening Positions parameters
- Run Room Sense BSTH/BL90/BL3 surround setup. Speaker Preset to 0 (Auto). Rename to “Video”. Set as Start-up Default 5.1
- Re-Run Room Sense but with BSTH/BL3 omitted i.e. BL90 Only. Speaker Preset to 1 (Narrow beam I think). Rename to Narrow
- Duplicate BL90 Narrow Listening position, Rename to wide, Speaker Preset to 2 (wide beam)
- As above for Omni, Speaker Preset to 3
There is a bug in the Beoapp that can only display 1.5 buttons for listening positions. However, if I have this right, you can operate BL90s in true narrow mode with two front loudspeakers only, and flick into Video mode, with the correct delays/sync and fire-up all loudspeaker sets including the BSTH.
If you are firing up the BL90s from a 3rd Party device, they (I think) operate with the original calibration installed from the BL90 room Sense and not that of the Theatre.
Again, I have asked B&O to look into this and sort-out the mish-mash they have now made.
As a final note, please connect your BL90s via Powerlink rather than WISA. They and your ears deserve them.

I can, but if i do so, the room compensation process via the BS Theatre can not be applied. I have to connect the BL90 in wireless mode (WISA) to have that feature working. It ‘s a software bug/failure.
And of course i wan’t to run the BL90’s wired via Powerlink to get the maximum sound quality out of them.
21 November 2022 at 16:49 #37661New software update for BST today. 2.3.4. No indication what’s new.
Ooops I saw someone mentioned this yesterday.
