    Main room BC2 BC3 BS9000, BL8000’s, BL6000’s

Link Room Beolink Active connected to a pair of BL4000’s

I recently moved the Beosound 9000 to the Main room. It used to drive the BL4000’s

I have just purchased a Beolinkactive to connect to my BL4000’s to the RJ45 Cat 6 cabling which runs through the house. I cannot get it to work. I have it set at option 6 but when I choose CD the eye light blinks and the speakers turn on momentarily but then switch back off and I get no further. There is no sound coming from the main room. The fact that the speakers respond to the remote means there is some communication but that is pretty minimal.

Just wondering if anyone has had this problem and may have a hint to the cause. I am not sure where to go next.

I would check all cables and connections in the first instance.

    • Check that both BL4000s are connected to the Active’s single PL socket – NOT the PC socket (assuming the Active is Type 1636).  You may need to daisy-chain from one BL4000 to the other.
    • If possible try new PL cables from Active to at least one of the BL4000s.
    • Try an alternative cable between main room BS9000 and link room/active – preferably a Masterlink cable without RJ45 adaptors.  If this works, check the ML/RJ45 have the correct pin assignments.

Also try disconnecting the BS9000 and just using BC2 as the main room source.

(Not sure what BC3 is.  Do you mean BS3?)

Just last week I had the B&O service man (who is great btw) return my Beosound 9000 with a new laser and upgraded circuit board?

He tested my components and the Beolink Active and BL4000’s worked fine in isolation.

My cabling Cat6 is in my walls so cannot replace. There seems to be some connection as when CD is pressed on Beo4 the BL4000 lights come on but then shut down within a couple of seconds and no sound from the CD is heard.

Sorry I meant Beosystem 3 which runs the whole shebang!

When I disconnect the Beosound 9000 and play a CD on the BC2 I get no response at all in the link room. In fact none of the Beo 4 buttons have any effect on the BL4000’s. Disconnecting the Beosound 9000 seems to have completely cut off the link room. The 9000 is obviously part of the chain and disconnecting it stops messages going to the Beolink Active and  speakers in link room.

This is really frustrating as it has always worked fine when BS9000 was in link room with BL4000’s connected directly.

Any assistance would be really appreciated.

Before concentrating on the link room I think it would be worth to consider if the main room is working correct?

The reason for this is that it is not possible to have 2 audiomasters in a Masterlink network which your starting post indicate that you are trying to have with both the BS9000 and the BC2.

Asuming your speakers in the main room is conncted to the Beosystem 3 can you activate the source on both the BS9000 and the BC2 and hear them in the speakers?

    Hi Madskp

Yes everything in the main room is working DVD on BC2 plays the disc inserted either DVD or CD. Cd on Beo4 plays the Bs9000, and DTV plays the television so all seems okay in the main room.

When serviceman was here he connected the RJ45 to Masterlink to Beolink active in the link room and it seems to work fine. I asked him to use this cable in the main room to connect the Bs9000 as I only had one of these cables.

Since I have bought a second RJ45 to ML cable and connected it to link room but this time it does not seem to work. I have tried looking at option and I believe opt 6 is the way to go with the Masterlink Active but I cannot get any sound from the Link room.

I do remember once previously that the two masters did cause a problem but the technician solved this. Is it the case that now I have three masters: BC2, BS3 and Bs9000 in the same room? I wonder if there is some conflict here.

I really appreciate your suggestions and will keep working on this problem and any further ideas would be really welcome.

This is almost certainly the cause of conflict – you have two audio masters (BC2 and BS9000) and a single video master (BS3).  You should only have one of each (in the main room).

Try disconnecting the BC2 from ML and see if the link room works.  If speakers are connected to the BS9000 put it in A.OPT 1.

There is no Ml connection to BC2. I think this caused some conflict and removing it solved the previous problem when BC 2 was in main room and Bs9000 was in link room. Everything worked okay when they were in separate rooms. Now the two are in the main room with the Beosystem 3 there is this problem.

The fact that the BL4000’s turn on with the remote through the BL Active means there is communication at some level. The fact that they turn off after a few seconds suggests some communication difficulty.

I have ML Active optioned to L. OPT 6

Are speakers connected to the BS9000, and if so is it in A.OPT 1?

No BL8000’s and BL 6000’s are in main room and are working with the main system (including BS9000) okay.

Link Room speakers (BL4000’s) are connected to a Beolink Active Which is connected to main room through Cat 6 cabling in wall.

If you select a video (BS3) source from the link room can you hear the TV audio there and control the TV?

If not, try replacing the original RJ45 to ML cable in the link room and repeat the above test. Leave BS9000 disconnected.

    One supplement to Guy’s suggestion.

Everytime you disconnect a Masterlink cable be sure to power down all connected units in the main room and the link room to avoid the risk of damaging anything.

Also good practice for power up is to get the main room running first, and the the link rooms

I purchased a new RJ45 to Masterlink Cable and the rooms now seem to be communicating.

A problem I had not thought about is that my Mac was connected to A. Aux in on BS9000 in the link room which would play music from my Mac to either or both rooms.  Now it is not and the Airplay units do not seem to be communicating. I have a second cable running from my Mac to an airport express and then ethernet to main room then another AirPort Express to my BS3.

I notice that when I press A. Aux in my link room then the BS9000 now in the main room still comes on to A. Aux. However there is now no direct connection to this machine as there was before when the cable was connected from AirPort Express to A. Aux in on the 9000.

I thought the BS3 would pick up the AirPort Express as I believe it is plugged into it. One problem might be that I don’t quite know which button to press to access the AirPort Express. The BS3 is so complicated for me.

    Any thoughts.

I am really grateful for the advice I have been given so far as it has solved the main part of my problem. Now just to get this last bit working.

It’s great that the new RJ45 to ML cable worked – that was my suspicion because there are many variants out there.

With regard to AUX.  The problem could be the BeoLink Active – it needs to have a SW level of 1.5 or higher to respond to the A.AUX command.  Check the label of the Active and see if it has the SW level written on it.

Here’s an example to show where the SW level is written – you can see it bottom right (SW1.1 in this case):  (click photo to enlarge)

Sadly very few of the second hand available Active’s are SW1.5 – always look at the label to check.

There may well be a ‘workaround’, but let’s check the SW level of your Active first.

Further to the above, here’s a SW1.6 Active on UK eBay:  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/227411996450

Thank you for your considered response and taking the time to help.

My ML Active is SW1.6 so I guess this is not the problem.

When the BS9000 was in the link room and the AirPort Express was plugged into it the sound came out of the main system. The Aux of the BS9000 sent the signal to the main room and it all worked. When I press A. Men on the Beo4 I am not sure what is supposed to come on: the Aux on the BS9000 or the Aux on the BC2 or the input on the BS3 – in fact none of them seem to trip and turn on.

    A. Mem in both room turns speakers on but no sound, but it also turns on the BS9000 (which I don’t think is correct as there is now no Aux connection to the Airport Express.

I have two cables joining my two rooms: One is the Masterlink cable and the other is an ethernet. The signal from my Mac goes through ethernet to an express then this goes trough to the main room via ethernet, then plugs into another AirPort Express which is connected to my main system.

I know this is probably as confusing to you as me. I just hope soon to be able to listen to Computer Music on my system.

Many thanks in hope of a fix.

For this to work, one of your Airport express units should still have a cable form the sound output to the AUX input of the BS9000.

A.MEM should activate the AUX input on the BS9000 which it also sounds like it does.

on the Mac you will have to choose Airplay to the Airport Express that is currently connected to the BS9000

    Hope this helps

Yes this is what I had when the BS9000 was in the link room and it worked perfectly. At the moment I have the second AirPort Express connected to the BS3 and / or BC2 (I am actually not sure which). So the Auxiliary input on either the BC2 or the BS3 will not transmit the signal?

If you activate the command for the input it is currently connected to on the BS3 it should work.
This will probably be a VIDEO related command, but these can be configured freely so only way to see what command is attached to that input is in the setup menu on the BS3.

The way your BC2 is connected it will not be able to share its AUX input with the rest of the system.

    These are the impulsion BS3

    AV1 None

    AV2 V. Mem

    AV 3 DVD

    AV4 V. Aux2

    AV 5 None

    AV6 Camera

I think the input for the Airplay input is AV 4 V. Aux 2. I have added V. Aux2 to the Bio 4 but it does not seem to activate it. I think I must be doing something fundamentally wrong. In my defence though one seems to almost need a PhD to set up the BS3!

If you still have the cable you used with the BS9000 and it is long enough it might be easier to just connect the airport express to that again.

Also the remote control command A.MEM is easier to acces than V.AUX2
