This has annoyed me too, because B&O claimed that the Theatre will take additional speakers into their bass management in order to get the best out of the ensemble. But how doing this, when the additional Beolab speakers are connected via Receiver 1 and there is no way to tell the Theatre what additional Beolab speaker it is connected to? A couple of months ago there has been an important update of the App, and at last I could tell the theatre that tiny Beolab 3’s are working as rear speakers. I measured it in from scratch and now it sounds much better. I also noticed that before this revision the side speakers of the theatre were not engaged when rear speakers were used via receiver 1. Stereo side/rear effects were made only by balancing the front and rear speakers and this did not sound convincing. Now the side speakers of the Theatre are engaged as well, and the sound has become much more natural and immersive. Sorry, but this is how the product should have performed at its launch two years ago! Anyhow, it appears sounding better than before with two Beolab 5 in the front, a Beolab 7.4 in the center and mentioned Beolab 3’s in the rear. Obviously it does not get that crazy loud, especially concerning the enormous bass of the Beolab 5, but there is much less clutter standing around in the living room. Bass addicts still may add a subwoofer or two.
What do you mean with beolab7.4,work together with Theatre as center?
Yes, that is true. However, I keep the 28’s in narrow mode when watching movies, and they project beautiful center image by themselves, so I don’t feel the lack of center. I sit some 3.5m away from my 77 LG G3, and the center is excellent in dialogues. The rear 8’s are in wide mode. Important thing to note is that B&O room compensation is not active when the speakers are driven via WISA. However, this “shortcoming” is easily mitigated by the Platin built in room correction algorithm which includes a 60 second measurement process of the entire room for the front and rear pair separately. It can be done with an iPhone or with a Zen microphone by Primare, and works really well.
hello, where is the setting of room correction in the wisa send app, I just cannot find it.
The issue has been resolved. I foundthat when my streaming device outputs PCM 2.0 audio without CEC enabled, the device itself has a separate volume control. By adjusting the volume to a normal level using its remote control, everything is back to normal.
On Severed_hand_of_skywalker saidYou have the latest firmware?
3.4.2(6)
Cheers…..
My BST cant rename in the app, every time renamed it will return to beovision theatre, does anyone experience this bug?
Maybe 8s as front and 8000 as rear will perform better in the surround system , 80% sound come from L C R,and 8s is technically better than 8000
The fabric cove is more classic BO style than wood imo
I’ve tried using ipad pro via usb-c to theatre but it didnt work
I am in asia
Still considering choosing between BL8s and BL17s for my FL/R…
I am very dissapointed by the Theatre, not the product itself, but the software. e.g. Spotify no longer listed in music sources, but in the tv sources list. Contacting B&O support… please sir could you do a factory reset? Have done it 4 times now and I am tired of it. You lose all your settings. Unbelievable.
completely agree with you,and there is no airplay source that i can set for
Thank you Geoff, your blog just open my mind
Yeah i think thats the advantage of the three way design, the 5inch subwoofer can focus on low frequency, but you should also notice that 28hz is under the -10db definition
Here is a response graph which tested by a cn kol
28hz-23khz,now it is show on the website
I think 8’s bass is more than enough for stero music. In most cases there is no need to add a subwoofer unless you’re watching a movie
In general very pleased with the performance. The BL8 is better matched to the theatre and 28’s than the 17’s. Without much effort or tweaking they are much more present to give front L and R channels a big upgrade. Beam width is different from the 28’s. Wide setting is a more open and room filling experience but I still mostly prefer narrow for music as I do with th 28’s. the possibilities in modifying listening positions and speaker role assignment is endless and you can lose yourself trying different things. Like using the front L/R speaker groups as front is nice but you lose stereo imaging from the front BL8 as well as clarity and spaciousness without using the app to open the sound field. for music listening with 8 +28+19 it’s a great combo too.
I’m thinking moving my 18s to the back and add 17s or 8s as the FR and FL,but for the price i can almost get 2 set of 17s instead of 1 set of 8s and i can upgrade to maybe 5.1.2 system instead of 5.1.0. So 8s is really a big jump from 17s when it comes to a surround setup?Really appreciate for your suggestion.
Very curious to test this. tomorrow I’m collecting the 8’s to replace the 17’s as front L/R with BST as center, BL19 for sub and BL28’s as surrounds. Pity the ultra wide band feature is not ready yet. haven’t read anything about 17’s trumping the 18’s. Was this about woofer size and bass output! maybe I need to try and integrate the 17’s as height channels from the ceiling
How does it going?
