First, perform a 3D scan on the original protective case, iPad mini 5 and Apple OEM adapter. Then modify the model based on the scanned data of the original case. Since I need to use the genuine Apple adapter, I want to avoid damaging the speaker base. If adopting the solution for standard iPads, the base would require hole enlargement to conceal the adapter inside the speaker enclosure. My design mounts the adapter within the protective case instead, leaving all original hardware completely untouched. A second-hand iPad mini 5 only costs $74 in China. My cellular-enabled iPad mini 5 was purchased at the same price, with zero scratches or dings. In addition, the genuine Apple adapter is $12, and the B&O A3 speaker is around $40.

The iPad mini 5 is the best model. Released in 2019, it is equipped with the A12 processor and can still be updated to the latest operating system to this day. Other iPads with Lightning ports are either too large in size or inferior in performance. I have tested USB‑C port iPads, and they do not work with an L-to-C adapter.

Modeling is carried out using 3D scanning technology, followed by fabrication with a 3D printer. Paired with an original Apple adapter, the finished product is compatible with the new iPad mini models 1 through 5. I made it in two color options: white and black. In addition, the A3 device has been upgraded with a 3500mAh Samsung 18650 battery, resulting in significantly improved battery life.
