BRONZE MemberDear Forum.
I recently bought a used Playmaker to see if it was worth while in 2025. From what I understand it is a mk. 1. I have cabled it to my lan-switch and the colour on the playmaker is solid white. So there should be an internet connecting. But how do I configure the Playmaker when it does not appear in the B&O app, Google Home app or Apple Home app. I have tried to go to http://169.254.11.22 on my phone, but the server is not available. I have also tried to reset the damn thing.
All Your help would be much appreciated!

GOLD MemberI do no think it is possible to configure it through a app any longer.
You might need to factory reset it to be able to acces the IP adress in a browser as it has probably been used with another IP where it was setup before.
The factory reset procedure can be found in the manual here https://support.bang-olufsen.com/hc/en-us/articles/360041401332-Playmaker
Location: Denmark12 April 2025 at 14:19 #65072GOLD MemberRecently I took out my old Playmaker, that i used quite a lot in the yesteryears.
The configuration was flawless – no problem.
I also have another, that I bought years ago and never used – trying to configure that was no success.
After spending a couple of hours, I gave up – but I will try again, once I have some spare time.
So – you see – it can be triggy 😒
Will report back, if I have new findings.

Based on other threads Wifi stability seems to be an issue. It has only 2,4ghz wifi channels and only one antenna in the bottom of the unit so this might affect the performance.

Actually there is nothing bad there…..if you can hardwire it 😉
But you should not expect the features of a modern Beosound device from it.
If you are an Apple-user, you can use Airplay (not AP2). The most usefull feature however, is the Line In connection, which has autosense.
If you – in times with ridiculous B&O prices and missing options in the B&O portfolio – are looking for a solution e.g. for a bedroom setup, an option could be a combination of an HDMI/ARC Converter on a non-B&O tv, the Playmaker and a set of Beolabs  – the Playmaker has RJ45/Powerlink outputs.
No multiroom feature, though!
A wifi repeater with an ethernet port could provide hardwiring in case you only have wifi in the room.

BRONZE MemberHi guys. Thanks for your input. Somehow the Playmaker showed up as an AirPlay device. I managed to get sound out of my Beolab 7-1. But as mentioned in this thread the Playmaker is not Multiroom material. The Beosound Essence MK II is far superior in that way.
My B&O Icons:20 April 2025 at 08:04 #65187GOLD MemberHappy easter,
I’m also having trouble to set up old Playmakers. The B&O app shows it, and as soon as I try to enter setup it just crahes.
BUT: The units itself are hardwired onto our home network and they just work flawless within the DLNA network.
We are using an old App from korean high end brand Astell & Kern and from there I can use ALL of my compatible B&O equipment with our DLNA audio server and play to them.

GOLD MemberI just tried to do a factory reset of my MK2 Playmaker to refresh my memory of the setup proces.
Initially I tried to use the B&O app for setup. But if I add a new product and choose Playmaker the B&O app says to go to wireless settings and choose the wireless network with Playmaker in it’s name. If I do that and go back to the app I still get the same message. I can see this is also the case for Beolit 12 which I belive is based on the same platform.
So I guees the app is not fully updated for setup of these products anymore.
Instead of the app I tried to go to the setup webpage mentioned in the manual
http://169.254.11.22/ But had no luck getting there. I tried with an IP scanner on my phone to find the correct IP and it turns out it was http://192.168.1.1
(I am not sure why this is not as mentioned in the manual, but maybe a difference between MK1 and MK2 or something that has changed with an software update.)
from the setuppage I could setup the Playmaker to use my wireless network and it is now active again.
hope this is helpfull for setup of a playmaker

The only significant difference that I know of is that the Mk1 had to be connected to router by RJ45 to update firmware (as mentioned in the Mk1 manual), whereas the Mk2 could apparently do so wirelessly.
I usually used the setup webpage (rather than the app) to set up my Mk1, and it was relatively straightforward. Although I don’t currently have the Playmaker in use, it is listed in my B&O app so this must have detected its presence in the past. I do remember experiencing connection/detection problems if I renamed the Playmaker and included an ‘&’ sign in the name – eg ‘B&O Playmaker’, but this may have been specific to the dnla streaming app I was using at the time (I didn’t have an iOS device when I first bought my Playmaker).
I do still have the ‘BeoSetup’ app (no longer avail) on my iPhone, and think I have used that with the Playmaker in the past. The app has slightly different setup instructions for PM Mk1 and Mk2 – the Mk1 has an orange flashing light when ready to connect to network, whereas the Mk2 has green.
@TWG I am happy to dig out my Mk1 Playmaker and test anything that may help with your problem – I’ll see what I can discover later in the week.Location: Warwickshire, UKMy B&O Icons:21 April 2025 at 17:51 #65240ModeratorI set up my Mk1 Playmaker today and experimented with a few things including factory reset, followed by different methods of setup.
Some observations:
- I too was not able to setup or access the Playmaker using the B&O app – I saw the same messages as Madskp.
- I was able to use the old BeoSetup app (no longer avail) to do a ‘first-time’ setup the Playmaker. As described in the instructions, I had to first go into the iPhone wireless menu, disconnect from my home wifi and connect to ‘Playmaker_AP’, whereupon the BeoSetup app (but not the B&O app) could be used to complete setup.
- After a further factory reset, I was able to complete to complete a ‘wireless setup via cable’ using a laptop (switched to airplane mode) and the following instructions:
I found the Playmaker setup menu under the published IP address of http://169.254.11.22 – so perhaps it is indeed just different for the Mk2 Playmaker (or perhaps it is only for first time setup via cable – I haven’t seen a Mk2 manual).
I am not sure how the above helps @TWG, but am happy to experiment further if required. It would be useful to know if his Playmakers are Mk1 or Mk2, but I would recommend webpage setup using a computer on his home network to find the individual devices by IP address (look in computers Network folder for Playmakers) and change settings as required.

I have never downloaded this app while it was available, so can not check, but I guess it’s probably an easier way to navigate to the web interface than typing in the adress in a browser. Or does it have other features than the web interface?
I found the Playmaker setup menu under the published IP address of http://169.254.11.22 – so perhaps it is indeed just different for the Mk2 Playmaker (or perhaps it is only for first time setup via cable – I haven’t seen a Mk2 manual).
Ok I just realised that when I used http://192.168.1.1 I was actually connected to the wireless network the Playmaker makes, so at least for the MK2 it is possible to connect to the Playmaker network and set it up via this IP adress.
But to check the cabled network setup I did a double factory reset (first with the button as per instructions in the manual, and next in the web interface). At no point was I able to connect to the Playmaker by using  http://169.254.11.22 . However when using an IP scanner I found that the Playmaker had the IP adress http://192.168.1.175 which I also have noticed at another point.
Accesing the web interface without having done any setup the status page on my MK2 Playmaker shows this which confirms the wireless and wired network IP adresses
Edit: The IP adress http://192.168.1.175 may just be a DHCP provided IP from my router, but none of the less it is not the fixed IP that is mentioned in the manual for cable setup of the Playmaker. Â
Hope this is helpfull for anyone setting up a Playmaker

My two cents expertise…
If you do drag, like me, and old setup, using it to the bones, meaning old Ios, Old MacOS, and old 2.4 Ghz wifi, you should be fine.
If not, given your wifi is 2.4 compatible, the integrated web server should make it. There is no bonus trying to use the B&O App, it is just useless.
So set it up with the web server and forget it.Location: Paris France23 April 2025 at 10:11 #65290Madskp

Good to know that we are not missing out on something.
Thinking about it I also do not think that the current Bang & Olufsen App would give any benefit since the Playmaker do not support any Beolink or multiroom features.
Location: Denmark23 April 2025 at 19:25 #65293GOLD MemberCorrect….maybe apart from being a ‘gateway’ to the setup page of the Playmakers.
All the headphones are in there and they also have no Beolink or multiroom features.

Location: Flensborg————Danmark27 April 2025 at 10:46 #65338GOLD MemberThank you guys for the hints with the IP adress! 🙂
I forgot about that, searched for the hardwired Playmaker IP in the router network overview and configured them via their IP adress. Thank you.Should the Playmakers show up in the B&O app?

GOLD MemberShould the Playmakers show up in the B&O app?
I my case it does not. Even after setup as described above I still just get the go to wireless settings and choose the wireless network with Playmaker in it’s name message.
So not sure what the intention from B&O is behind this or if they have just forgot that it is shown in the app and should have been removed
Location: Denmark27 April 2025 at 12:26 #65352GOLD MemberMine doesn’t show up either.
Doesn’t matter that much as it works nice as a DLNA multi room device.
