      Hello all,

I recently bought a Beosystem 2500 with its BeoLab speakers from Ebay. Its from a trusted seller with good reviews and its been professionally refurbished according to the description.
At first glace, the sound system is in fantastic condition. It looks almost brand new and the sound is beautiful.

However, I did notice that the cassette deck plays my tapes fast. I did some comparisons and it plays about 10% faster. The CD player and the speakers are fine though. I decided to open the back panel to identify the motor.
Can anyone please confirm that this is the correct place to adjust the speed? (picture attached at the bottom)
I bought the ceramic flat screwdriver to avoid conductivity and also a calibration tape to stay on the safe side.

After assembling it back, I noticed that the door mechanism does not close as smoothly anymore.
When it opens and closes it makes a slightly louder sound than usual. It opens smoothly despite the sound but when it does close, it feels like there is a struggle. It is not consistent.
What do you think the issue may be? The mechanisms seems to operate at a normal speed without the glass doors being mounted but when there are mounted, I noticed the gears once I opened the panel again that there is a slight delay in getting the doors to close. The belts all look new to me.I would highly appreciate the advise.

        Hi and welcome to Beoworld!

Firstly, do you have the service manual?  This is available on this site to Silver and Gold members.

Here’s a snippet from the manual regarding tape speed adjustment:

With regard to the doors, again the manual shows the correct routing of the wire cable that moves the doors, so it is worth checking that first because you have the system disassembled.   It could also be worth cleaning and maybe lubricating the door runners.  If there is still a problem, I would replace the door motor belt – however new it looks you cannot be sure of its age, or whether an incorrect belt has been fitted.

Personally I would fit new belts for doors, tape and CD mechanism, all available from here:  https://www.dksoundparts.com/product-category/beosound/beosound-2500/

          Hello Guy,

Thank you very much for your welcome and for your swift response! I really appreciate it.

I will consider the membership as I would like to keep this sound system for as long as I can.

I am assuming that I will have to also have to disassemble the large green circuit board covering most of the back panel to access the SFR1.
Can you please confirm if I can use a ceramic flat screwhead on the SFR1?
I don’t understand the manual’s text regarding “adjustment should be made in a mid-tape position”. Would it suffice to just play the calibration tape and measure the sound on an app that reads frequencies like the Spectroid app and make these adjustments rather than using a wow/drift meter?

The door belts are apparently new so I guess I will have to clean and lubricate the runners and see if that solves it. What lubricant is recommended and is it also sold here?

Apologies for the several questions. I just want to make sure I approach this the correct way. Thank you again for your time.

I would recommend replacing the current tape belt with the correct one from Danish Sound Parts before trying to make any adjustments.  It’s very likely that an incorrect belt was installed and getting the proper belt will correct your issue.

I would assume so.  Have a look at this excellent thread from matador – your will have to click on the photos attached to each post.  I think that you can see the hole through which SFR1 is accessed in IMG_2798.

I am not sure what tools to use for adjustment but avoid distorting figures by grounding through your body – don’t hold metal screwdriver directly.

Upper and lower door runners can be cleaned with something like window cleaner sprayed onto qtip,  then lubricate very lightly with silicon spray lubricant (again via qtip).

BUT, I agree with @billbriscoe that incorrect/old belts are more likely to cause problems for both door and tape speed.

Thank you very much for your responses, Bill and Guy.
I just ordered the tape deck and glass door belts and will update you on the progress.
