    Hello all,

Because of the interest in the Service Tool for BS5 / BM5, I have made the 2.5 GB zip file available for all. Use this link for download:

    https://1drv.ms/u/s!AvyICKrRk1dflLEkQs3K36JxF2p_EQ

Be patient with the download. It is highly compressed and will take some time to unzip.

I have attached a short introduction to the content, the B&O Service Manual and updated guides on how to install a new SSD:

    (1) B&O instructions for the Service Tool in the Service Manual for BS5 / BM5. The manual has instructions on how to update the BIOS and replace motherboard, harddisk, B&O master board, etc.

    (2) My guides on how to use the service tool with Hirens Boot CD to use the original B&O clone (Norton Ghost) on a new SSD with correct alignment for SSD drives, including optimizations for SSD drives.

If you have any questions, please ask in this thread.

    Best regards,

    Jens

    More attached guides:

    (1) How to replace the harddisk / HDD with a SSD drive to get a faster Beosound 5 / Beomaster 5, as well as how to backup the BM5 with Macrium Reflect.

    (2) How to install a 1 TB SSD drive. This is not verified as I have installed a 2 TB SSD, but I think it will work.

    Best regards,

    Jens

Just being a little curious I downloaded  the image and are looking at the windows installation at the Norton Ghost image.

But I haven’t stumbed upon a BS5 program folder or file. Isn’t there one, or is it just burried deep down in the folder structure?

Use ImageUSB 1.5 to copy the service tool to a USB stick.

The bin file you want to copy to a USB stick is in this folder in the download:

    (1) Beomaster 5 Servicetool\BS5-BM5_ST\BS5-BM5_ST\ServiceTool\bm5 imageusb.bin (3.7 GB)

Then follow the instructions in chapter 4.4 in the included Service Manual for BS5 / BM5.

See the “Short introduction to 2 ways of using the service tool” (attached here and also in the download).

If you want to use Hirens Boot CD and Norton Ghost to install a new SSD with correct alignment for SSD drives, then you have to unzip / unpack the 3.7 GB bin file to get the Image700.GHO (1.7 GB).

Then follow instructions in “(2) Beomaster 5 Clone to SSD (Symantec Ghost)” to install a 1 TB SSD or a 2 TB SSD. (attached here and also in the download).

    Nice,

I had it, then lost it. You have included all the extra components that are useful too!

note, if trying to access the disk and have the Beomaster 5 on a secure subnet (which is wise as it uses windows XP CE), you need to change the settings in Windows Firewall (on the beomaster 5) in the file and printer sharing to allow access from other subnets.

    • Hello , my BM5 hard drive crashed recently and can not be cloned. What are my options as B&O in Singapore do not service the BM5/BS 5 anymore. How do I replace my hard drive. Thank you.

I followed the steps you suggested and I was able to turn on the computer, but I have a question:

    1. After installing the program, every time I turn on the computer to enter the system, it freezes on a black screen before entering the program.
    2. Sometimes I can’t boot.
    3. Sometimes I can boot into the program, but after a while the screen goes black and I can’t do anything anymore, so I have to turn off the computer.

From the above message, what do you think could be the cause? What I’m wondering is whether the power system is like that or not.

    Regards,
    Sammy

Hi my name is kim Olsen, I have beomaster 5 + beosound 5, but right now I have master 5 connected to my TV, my XP has crashed and I am trying to recover, when it restarts after the first phase nothing happens anymore, I can only hear that the HDD is running, it doesn’t sound like anything is wrong as it is just a regular squeak like HDDs do, some solutions would help a lot.

I know this is an older post now but I wonder if anyone can still help me.  I am a B&O collector but only recently acquired my first Beosound 5. It works, but the software had never been updated, so I have used the Service Tool described here to update it.

It has worked, but the software has been updated only to version 3.15.02.0659, but Rendboell’s guide indicates it should be updated to version 7.00.00.0569.

Does anyone know how to update to later versions?

What I’d really like to do is get Spotify to work, which I know was possible on later versions of the software.  Before anyone warns me, I know that there BS5 works on WinXP and that this is not considered safe for online connection, but I am told there are ways to achieve it via a secure subnet!

I am pretty sure that I used the software package and tools from post #47089 at the top of this page, and I have version 7.00.00.0511

I don’t remember which version was on my BS5 before I restored it, so I can not be sure if there could be issues if you update from an older version. However I belive that you should be able to restore to an empty drive from that tool, so should be possible.
Have only been doing the restore once to be sure that all was factory reset, so not much experience with the tool.

Thanks for the info.  I think I had misunderstood how to use the service tool.  I had hit the 3 buttons to update the firmware, btu I had not realised I also had to hit ‘Clone Entire HDD’ in order to install the latest software (and also reset it to factory settings).

I now have 7.00.00.0511, and I see there are several updated features, including Music Services (for Spotify), and the option to use my NAS for music storage, which is really useful as my music collection is already on there.

I have been researching how to connect it to the internet via a secure subnet, and if I can figure that out, I’ll have Spotify on be BS5!

Inevitably however – I have another question!

I have my speaker connected to my Beosystem 3, and I also have my Beocenter 9500 connected to that same ML network (via a 1611 converter).  I know that Spotify will only work on the BS5 if it is set as the Audio Master, so does anyone know, is there any way to set my BC9500 so it can still be used, in the same room as the BS5?  It’s important to me as I like playing vinyl, and my BG9500 is connected to my BC9500.

Great to hear that it was possible to get it updated 🙂

I am afraid you are back to the issue we have been discussing in other threads that only one Audio master is possible in a ML network, and since you both wan’t the BS5 to be a master and the BC9500 can only be a master (through the 1611) you will run into problems.

My best suggestion as also mentioned in this thread https://forum.beoworld.org/forums/topic/a-aux-link-masterlink-and-network-link-3-bo-generations-together-3/#post-65064 will be to get 2 NL/ML converters and make two separate ML networks and choose via the converters which sources can be used where.

That’s what I thought.  I do have one NL/ML converter but I’m reluctant to have two.

I think my best solution in the short term is to turn the Beosound 5 off at the mains when I’m using the Boecenter 9500, and turn the 1611 Converter off at the mains when I’m using the Beosound 5.

The other alternative is to use my Beosound 4 instead of the Beocenter 9500, as I believe the Beosound 4 will work in Opt. 4, but then I lose the ability to control my Beogram 9500 with remote control, and I would miss that.

The BS4 and BS5 might be able to coexist in a ML network as mentioned in this thread https://forum.beoworld.org/forums/topic/beosound-4-and-5-together/

However I have not seen any official setup guides for this, but BS4 can work with Beoport with the N.music and N.Radio sources.

However the BS5 slso has A.Aux and A.mem (spotify), and CD if a ripper is connected, so not sure how and if these overlapping sources can be handled.

i might be able to try some setups with my bC2 and BS5 to see how things are handled in that setup

I connected my Beosound 4 instead of the Beocenter 9500 to test it.  The Beosound 4 does not in fact have a choice a A.Opt 4.  It looks like it has 0, 1, 2, 5, or 6 available.

So, I tried putting the Beosound 5 into Audio Slave mode and putting the Beosound 4 into A.Opt 0, with my Beosystem 3 in V.Opt 2, but then no audio source worked at all – only video sources worked via my Beo4 or Beo6 remotes.  It I played a CD direct from the BS4’s CD button, it played, but no sound.

Hmmm yes this is tricky since you have the BS3 receiving the IR signals. That means that maybe both the BS4 and BS5 should be in option 0. But Again not sure how the overlapping sources will work.

Slave mode should not work as far as I can tell since a link room can not share it’s sources with the main room.

I might be able to do some tests on my system tomorrow

There might be some indicators of how to set the BS5 in this post https://forum.beoworld.org/forums/topic/making-a-beosound-5-an-auxiliary-to-a-beosound-9000/#post-51322

Besides that I guess the BS 4 should be set to opt 0 since the BS3 has the IR control (opt.2)

I don’t understand why, but my Beosound 4 isn’t not working in Opt.0 at all.  I have had it working like that before, but now, it’s not happening!  I disconnected the Beosound 5 altogether just to test the Beosound 4, but with that in Opt.0 and my Beosystem 3 in Opt.2, I get no result from selecting audio sources on my Beo4.  If I select sources direct on the Beosound 4, it reacts, but I get no sound and my speakers remain in standby.

I plugged the Beosound 5 back in, set it to A Master in Opt.0, and that works fine, so I don’t understand what’s going wrong with my Beosound 4.
