GOLD MemberHi,
Did you disconnect everything from power before plugging in the masterlink cable at the BS3000? I would suggest trying the BS3000 as standalone again, no masterlink connected.
See if that makes any difference first.

BRONZE Membermany thanks for a good suggestion- unfortunately when operating stand alone itโs exactly the same

GOLD Memberhave you looked down into the masterlink socket on the BS3000 to check for dust, lint, or some other foreign stuff, and to make sure no pins are bent/touching?
30 January 2023 at 11:40 #43412ModeratorHave you gone into the ‘Test Mode’ and looked for fault reports?ย Worth a look, and if nothing shown you could always try a ‘reset to default’ to see if that fixes the problem.

BRONZE MemberThanks all – Iโve entered test mode and looked at the readout under option 27, which does indicate a CD focus error. All the other elements are ok.
I canโt enter CD test mode as pressing CD locks up the unit as usual.
looks like I need a new laser ?
30 January 2023 at 23:12 #43414ModeratorNo, you need a laser deep clean.
Location: Paris France30 January 2023 at 23:44 #43415FOUNDER MemberPut back the original software. The communication between drive and upc doesnโt work.
Whenever the laser is not focusing, the clamper will open. Yours doesnโt respond anymore, so it has nothing to do with the pickup element.31 January 2023 at 00:28 #43416billbriscoe
GOLD MemberI also think this is a communication issue. I would double check the flat ribbon cable connections between the chips and the board, and check the cable connections at the cd mechanism as well just in case something was disturbed while you were changing the door belt and updating the software. If those are all properly seated then I also think it’s time to try the original software and see if that gets the unit back to where it was before. In test mode, clear all of the error codes first and then see what comes up.
My BS3000 battery leaked onto the board it’s mounted on and etched some of the traces beneath the battery. I had to replace the board and battery and now it’s back to normal operation.

BRONZE MemberThanks all – Iโll try that and report back – thanks for all your help

it has nothing to do with the pickup element.
In fact, I was surprise by the lock up behavior: I’ve got a BC2300 with bad laser and it spins, stops and stay like that, I dont hangs. But I post this anyway after the test mode report.
Thanks for correcting me and sorry to the OP.

BRONZE MemberDear all – many thanks for all your help so far
Iโve put the original software back and the CD works again. So it seems the issue is comparability of SW3.4 with my drive or some other software element. As I said mine is type number 2672 – do I have any hope of getting it to work with the later software? As I say it really has to allow option 6 to be of any use in my setup.
2 February 2023 at 15:51 #43420ModeratorThe service manual has a couple of paragraphs about precautions to take when changing the microprocessor and/or EEPROM modules (eg waiting 20-30 secs after connecting to mains before operating etc). Did you observe all the guidance?
Location: Warwickshire, UKMy B&O Icons:2 February 2023 at 17:13 #43421FOUNDER MemberA little detail that I remember from when I had a BS3000 MkI (with the small clamper). At the time the MkII version with the large Clamper was already available:
My MkI was a very early one (bought it preowned from a dealer at the time) and I had the software upgraded to make it N.Radio ready. If I remember correctly SW 1.34a was the newest one available for MkI at the time. The service Center in Vienna gave me the information that the MkII sofware EPROM (with a higher version number) was incompatible with the MkI Bs3000.
Other than the large Clamper and the grey front, there were some internal difference between MkI and MkII. For example MkII had PIN-Protection (the MkI not).So if in the OP-case the MkI works again with the old SW chip, it might show that there are indeed some compatibility problems between MkI unit and MkII sofware.
Just a thought…
Cheers

BRONZE MemberThanks again Guy – I can confirm I followed all the procedures in the service manual. I repeated the swap to test, giving a couple of minutes before selecting a source with the same results.
It seems Foxtrott might have the answer – the 3.4 software may simply be incompatible with my system, which is a small clamper model, but with the linear rather than radial arm cd system.
thanks all for your help. Looks like Iโll be selling it. Shame as it is a nice little stereo!
