Beosound 3200 CD player troubleshooting

Hi guys,

 

So my beosound 3200 is not playing CDs. Agh! I simply see the message “LOAD CD” , even after loading various CDs into the tray. The CD never starts, and there is no spin.

 

Actions:

1. I’ve recently replaced the cd laser part through kose trading in copenhagen; though after quite the sum it did not resolve the cd play function.
2. After running testmode 27 (1. Enter standby mode. 2. then Press, “Display and the numbers 0 2 5 8” in 2-sec-interval sequence). I receive TM error code “4” Which the 3200 service manual describes as :

“Turntable motor error. Set when the disc did not spin up or down within the limit.”

Speculation:

May be the light and motor control board, 9module, motors, optical reader, or a number of things. Or ideally, something simple!

Request:

I’m not sure which part to order to get it going or if there may be a workaround. Maybe one of the wizards who happen to read through and post on our site can advise or guide…let me know if any tips or tricks! I’m all ears =)

In summary I replaced the laser in my BC2300 and it didn’t cure the fault – I had to replace all the capacitors on the servo board.

SMD caps:

I’m eager to order the relevant capacitors SMD and try my take at soldering/desoldering the servo pcb. Any tips you have regarding the twisting technique or otherwise? Also, in order to get those, what sites do you typically quote/order from that proved successful in repairing the thing? I saw a post on the thread you sent where someone referred to ordering standard smb’s as preferable.

Cable:

I also think it may be a subtle and minor ribbon cable tear that doesn’t transmit the signal that the disc is loaded to start the spin/play. You’ll see in the the images I’m attaching. Any advise on sourcing that type of thin film cable and common recommendation/youtube of the process/skill required to solder for beginners given your expertise.   🙂

You will see the center of the small blue circle in the first image is where the tear is located, on the back of the unit running to the disc spindle – a part manufactured by Machubi – that holds the CD in place.

Especially the youtube video is very usefull.

 

regarding the flat cable rip an alternative could be to solder two thin wires directly to the solder blobs on the motor and find the corrosponding signals on the PCB and solder the other ends of the wires there. I did that with a harddrive once to get it working again. Not sure if there might be any downsides to this method other than routing of and space for the wires

I purchased my new capacitors from here: https://uk.farnell.com/

In that other thread I included links to the specific capacitors that I ordered (from farnell) and fitted.  Check the values of the actual capacitors on your servo board, as they may well be different.  The replacement laser that I fitted to my BC2300 was from Danish Sound Parts

Gents! Hot update! Kose sent me a cd laser part that was the entire servo board motor, optical reader housed together and after replacing that …..eureka! The cd player function is back on and im happy seeing the discs spin and audio waft through the air !
its been decommissioned for quite some time and a lot of troubleshooting. I never got around to changing the capacitors myself, though rest assured I look forward to when it may konk out and now am well equipped to change those parts out given your Guy and Madskp insights.
