Greetings from the United States
I am new to the forum and I’m not sure if this post is in the correct location
I have a B&O MMC1 cartridge that I purchased new many years ago. It is currently working very well but I often think which would a better choice, a re-tip or a a new SMMC1 from SoundSmith when the day arrives for some maintenance or replacement.
SoundSmith does re-tipping/rebuilding but from comments I’ve seen the overall presentation is a little different from the original B&O presentation. Also, has anyone compared the B&O MMC1 to the SoundSmith SMMC1 and if so, how do they compare?
When I initially stumbled onto the Beoworld forum, I saw some comments about the FJS/Tonabnehmer Cartridge Service most of which were positive but a few were not. Do their re-tips maintain the original hollow cantilever and overall presentation of the MMC1? I have always run the cartridge in an SME Series III arm on an LP12 or Thorens TD125 MkII with pleasing results. It currently tracks at 1 gram and the cantilever is straight with no sag.
Any comments are appreciated.
Regards,
Bill
