Working on replacing the broken laser unit for the BeoSound 9000 MK3, I found out it needs a VAM1250/21 (see picture).
- I have tried at DKSoundParts and Gerner Electronics, but no success.
- On AliExpress I see many available, but I don’t know about reliability.
- On Dรถnberg Electronics (Ireland) I found a VAM1250, but they are unsure if their VAM1250 is different from the VAM1250/21.
Question
- Who knows a reliable source to find and buy one?
- Is the addition ‘/21’ in 1250/21 important, or should a VAM1250 work?

https://www.donberg.co.uk/catalogue/vam_1250.html
But it doesn’t have the addition ‘/21’. So, I am not sure if this is the right one (Dรถnberg also doesn’t know if it will work.
Question
- Does anyone know if this VAM1250 will work in the BeoSound 9000 MK3?
- Are there any other laser units that are compatible with the VAM1250/21?

Also I got the laser unit with original packaging. And I think I remember that packaging from a Chinese manufacturers webshop page.
When I have time I will go check that again, because I guess there will be more people in need of this type of laser unit.Best regards,

BRONZE MemberHello, I have a mk2 and the sticker shows the same exact reference. Can it really be the same laser pickup, as my version is a mk2? Will follow the progress if the unit you have is worlking for you, and if you can give us the reference to find it would be useful. Thanks a lot!
3 April 2025 at 19:55 #64923SILVER MemberHi Igor,
Can you share a picture of the sticker you refer to?

BRONZE MemberHello, yes here you have a picture of the sticker and the pickup of my mk2. Regards.
4 April 2025 at 08:03 #64933SILVER MemberThanks for adding the picture. It confirms that your laser unit (in the MK2) is exactly the same, as mine (in a MK3).
This type is a little bit hard to find. I made a picture of the packaging on my replacement laser unit (see below). It does not contain any manufacturer/supplier specific text unfortunately. ( The Chinese characters mean ‘Chinese New Year’s Eve) And the barcode number is not leading to specific and right product or manufacturer information.
Though, the looks of the packaging might help you to find the right laser unit.

BRONZE MemberHello everyone! Bad news I tried a unit from ebay, the seller recommended it after I sent him pictures and reference of my pickup (attached picture of the pickup I received), he told me my pickup is a VAU 1254 on a VAM 1250, finally I’ve received it today and installed it very carefully and it does not work on my unit…, ย is not even capable of read any disc, doesn’t even start spinning because the pickup is not working properly (I installed mine back and still reads some cds like it did before).. I don’t feel like testing from more sources because many look and have similar references…. ย please @kolfmaker do you think I can ask Keith Saunders to provide one for me? The one you bought from him worked properly? Thanks again in advance!!

9 April 2025 at 10:55 #65041SILVER MemberVery sorry to hear the VAM1254 does not work.
Though, even if they look almost the same, they are not. I read a lot of info about OPU’s. The VAM1250/21 that you need belongs to the ‘CDM-12 Pro’ family of OPU’s. Others are: VAM1204, VAM1205, VAM1206, VAM1252 and VAM1254. They all share comparable specifications, which also means there are differences. Unfortunately, you just found out about that.
The OPU you have in your BeoSound is a VAM1250/21, like I had. I was lucky to find one with the help of Keith Saunders. Although it is a VAM1250 (not /21), I know this one works.
You can try to contact Keith, but if I remember weel, he sent his last unit to me.
I made a quick check on eBay and found this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/363230316872
It is a VAM1250, but I don’t know how reliable the advertisement/advertiser is. Maybe you can try to contact them.

BRONZE MemberOk thanks, then I undersarand that the 1204 1205 1206 1252 and 1254 are not compatible with the ones you and me have? I found this feom ebay that is coincident in shape and specs as a CD-Pro2..
but the seller feedback to my questions is that the unit is not compatible with mine…. do you think that is possible to find a unit directly from B&O? Thanks again! Igor
9 April 2025 at 16:18 #65043SILVER MemberInterestingly, the item on eBay mentions ‘VAM1250/21′ and the main picture shows the exact same box (and VAM1250’ on the white sticker on the box) as the unit I got from Keith Saunders.
If I would have to get one now, I would try this.
(I am not guaranteeing for you, it’s always your own risk)
