I recently bought a box of B&O goodies from what I assume was a closed down B&O repair shop.

One of the items in the Box was this Mounting box IR Receivers that was intended for outdoor placement of the IR receivers for MCL2 or ML link based products with an external IR eye. I have only seen it in B&O spare part catalogs before, so thought I would share how the product looks with others.

The foam insert in the box is made so it can house either the rectangular MCL2 IR receiver or the round ML IR receiver. to cover the foams is to pieces of black foil with a rectangular and a round hole respectivly.
I my opinion this product is not very B&O like and seems to be more function over form. For example the clear plastic front has casting residue just in the middle of the IR eye. And also the production date is cast into the front of the clear plastic in the left side of the box. Not a very attractive look in my opinion. Also when the screws are mounted there is no way to use the buttons on the IR receiver, so you will need to use a remote that is not weather protected if you forget it outside.

One last complaint about the design is that the foil parts are not large enough to cover the white foam. It might be clearer to see in this picture without the clear plastic front.

The mounting instructions says it should be mouted in shade to improve IR reception. It does not say anything about rain or IP classification for that matter, so not sure how water proof it is. There are no sealing between the box and the clear plastic front.
So all in all not a B&O product that I am very impressed about, and also do not have much need for so I might just sell it on.

I’ve seen that in the MCL catalogs too.

That’s got to be a 3rd-party electrical box, B&O probably made only the foam inserts themselves 😁 I am not sure how many of these were really sold (I don’t think any of the 90’s B&O speakers were in any way water-proof?).

Not very practical either to be disconnecting the outdoor units if the temperature falls below 0° (as the instructions say!).

I like how they call the older rectangular MCL transceiver the “oblong” one 😀

Neat find anyway, I like these obscure accessories!

I agree looks like a very generic box

No, but I think there is a circuit description of how to make a switch for that in some of the MCL documentation, so B&O did something to make this solution plausible.

I did not notice that myself, but I can see what you mean. Not the word I would choose for it, but the translater might have had a limited vocabulary.

I believe I’ve seen somewhere a description of adding a switch to one of the MCL lines to disconnect a unit cleanly.

Related to the accessorie, I was happy to find this desktop mount for the ‘oblong’ transceiver (in this case a white one) some years ago. I think it looks quite nice sitting on an angle.
