BRONZE MemberThe original 2-pin DINs are incredibly loose and donโt work well with thicker cables. The original cables play a lot quieter than the new 14AWG ones I made. That said, the thicker cable doesnโt mate well with the flimsy 2-pin connectors at all. Iโve already converted my S45-2s to SpeakOn, so that end is solidโbut the amp side could use improvement too.
Any thoughts on using Mini XLR?
5A should be enough, and it looks like it could fit within the very limited space available in the chassis.15 April 2025 at 18:07 #65143Dillen
ModeratorKeep it standard.
Tighten the contacts in the DIN sockets, and they will be fine.
2x 0,75mm2 cable is more than adequate – that’s also what the original cables are.Martin

BRONZE MemberThanks for sharing Martin!
Could it be the original cables have degraded so bad it sounds that much quieter?
I have two sets of original wires, and the difference compared to the new 2mmยฒ ones I made is night and day.
I don’t care much for the numbers but I can hear a big difference.Aftermarket female plugs that fit to the original speaker terminals actually broke apart inside. Wire clamping metal pice was forged together with the part that makes the actual connection. It all came loose after a little while.
So, certainly happy with the SpeakOn connectors on the speaker side, feels solid, and perfect fit with no cabinet modification to the S45-2. -
