I’m hoping this is just a(nother) thing I don’t know but is common knowledge for the experts here!
I cannot get the sound from video sources to play through my Beolab 3500 speaker.ย Audio sources are fine, but none of the video sources which are connected to my Beosystem 3 via HDMI.
It only seems toย be the HDMI sources – I have an HDR2 connected as AV1 via SCART and I can get that sound via my BL3500, and I have also tested an audio source connected to the RCA inputs on AV4 and that works too, but none of the 4 HDMI sources will play through theBL3500.
Is this some kind of restriction with HDMI sources perhaps?
Note, My Beosystem 3 is in Opt.2, my Beocenter 9500 in Opt.0 (connected into the ML network via 1611 converter) and my Beolab 3500 is in Opt.4, as it’s in the same room, so I control it with LINK commands.

GOLD MemberThere are some limitations in distribution of HDMI sources to masterlink.
This older thread might help youย https://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/t/40202.aspx
Location: Denmark5 May 2025 at 21:25 #65442GOLD MemberI had a feeling it would be something to do with HDMI protection, thanks.ย I only really want one of the four HDMI inputs to be available to listen to from the link room speaker (my PC), so I’m wondering, if I get hold of an HDMI audio extractor with a digital coax out, then connect that to the BS3 and choose that as the sound input for that particular AV input, that might work.ย Those extractors are available cheap so I might get one and try it as an experiment.
Thanks for the help.

Yes that should work fine*.ย When hdmi inputs were first introduced on B&O TVs, users with ML systems were told to add a SCART connection in order to make sure that sound was distributed to link rooms.ย This was quite straightforward when, for example, DVD2 had both hdmi and SCART outputs.
* EDIT:ย Actually I am not sure that it will!ย It’s still a digital input to the BS3.ย Maybe an hdmi extractor providing analogue output that can be fed into the BS3 would be better.
* EDIT2:ย From the BS3 Userguide p14:
NOTE! Only sources with an analogue signal
can be distributed from a main room TV to
the link room system.I have had mixed results trying to distribute hmdi sources from BV10-32, as described in this post (and the wider thread): https://forum.beoworld.org/forums/topic/beovision-10-and-new-apple-tv/#post-51987

Location: Warwickshire, UKMy B&O Icons:6 May 2025 at 19:15 #65463GOLD MemberThanks for the advice.ย I’ve checked the connection settings in the BS3 and if you use HDMI as the video source, it only gives you two choices for audio – HDMI, or SPDIF.ย It does not give you the option of using analog for audio if you are using HDMI for video.
I found an HDMI audio splitter with a digital coaxial out on Amazon, and it was cheap enough to be worth ordering, just to try it.ย I’ll let you know if it works when it arrives.
Location: LiverpoolMy B&O Icons:8 May 2025 at 20:41 #65500GOLD MemberUpdate – the HDMI audio splitter arrived, so I connected it as AV4 with HDMI D used as the video input and SPDIF used as the audio input.ย As I suspected, this works for the main speakers connected to the Beosystem 3, but not the link speaker.
It’s specifically sound from my PC I was hoping to get through the link speaker, so I’m going to conduct another experiment.ย My PC has a digital audio out socket, but it’s optical not coax, so I’ve ordered a little converter to convert optical to coax.ย I’m wondering: if the sound is coming from a separate source, and not split-out from the HDMI, maybe that will work.ย I think it’s unlikely to be honest, but worth a try.ย I’ll add another update when I’ve tried that.
