Essence Remote IR

On this thread, two different contributors mention that the Essence remote has IR.  Heretofore, I thought it was a BT-only device.  Mine works very well in that regard, even if the volume adjustment is laggy by about 1/2 second, which is irritating.

Well, I put my Essence remote in front of my IR Eye and sequentially pressed the four buttons and turned the wheel and nothing happened.  Pray tell, is there a manual that describes the IR functionality of the Essence remote?

I guess that depends on the age of your remote.
If I remember it correctly the first ones did not have the ir options.
