I’m not sure if anyone has any insight into this, but I’m curious what DAC is used in BeoSound Essences, Cores, & Connect Cores?
I’ve been enjoying a two-channel setup with my BeoLab 9s for some time using a Core, but I recently auditioned the Bluesound Node Icon. The sound was superior to the Core, but only by a little. The Node Icon uses discreet ESS Sabre 9039 DACs for each of the left and right channels. I understand the BeoConnect Core has a “better” DAC, but I’m not sure how to quantify that. I’m nowhere near a showroom and have no ability to audition one so I’m curious if B&O is using an off-the-shelf DAC from ESS (or a similar manufacturer) or if it’s some custom part of their own. I’d like to upgrade, but if I could keep it in the B&O family that would be even better.
2 February 2025 at 17:31 #63314I had the BCC for testing and had a chance to compare it with the “old” Core with my Beloab 50’s. For reference, I have a Linn Selekt DSM streamer with Linn’s own DAC called Organik. The old Care connected with Powerlink, the BCC with USB and the Linn with RCA to the 50’s. The BCC is a noticable step up from the old Core. More refined, more clearity. Overall for the current price a good buy. Never was a big fan of the old Core (I still have one in my Shape setup).
The Linn puts it to a complete new level (also from a budget point of view, with decent Audioquest cable almost 10x the BCC…), but shows what is possible with todays digital tec. But the BCC is a good product if you want to stay in the ecosystem. (I probabaly will upgrade my Core the new BCC for the Shape).
An other advantage of the BCC is the Mozart platform so you can use Tidal connect which you can’t with the Core.
