BRONZE MemberLately, I’ve seen a few references to the foam in the BL8000 disintegrating and damaging the electronics. Are ALL BL8000s impacted by this, or is this restricted to a certain serial number (and below – like the BL4000s)?
I recently passed my BL8000s to my son, and I’d hate for them to die shortly thereafter. Do we have a serial number cutoff or are all suspect or do we really not know?ย Also, do we know what kind of environmental conditions accelerate or ameliorate the disintegration?
Thanks for any info on this.

BRONZE MemberOk, I should have searched. There’s a very good thread here:
https://forum.beoworld.org/forums/topic/beolab-8000-preventive-care/
To save a click, there’s still no definitive answer about a serial number cut-off, but, as of 2023, the highest serial number it has been seen on is 154x xxxx. The thought is that the deterioration has to do with heat so not using them should help (but, then, what’s the point of having speakers and not using them?).

ModeratorThe foam degrades from airs moisture.
Even unused original foam sets have degraded and become useless by now.
New foam sets etc. here.Martin

Foam Replacement set are ridiculously cheap compared to B&O prices standards, so don’ bother with serial numbers: open the speakers and if black, order the parts.
The most complicated step is to find a dealer who sells after sales parts (meaning “not only interested in selling a too much expensive TV set to you).
But providing part number and with a sweet chit-chat talking it’s in the possible domain!Alternativly they are blueprints available to download for silver and gold members, to make your own pads.
From there, many DIY topics on Beoworld about the “how to”.
Good luck.

BRONZE MemberHere in the US, I’d be happy to have any dealer closer than 700 miles – the distance to my current closest dealer –ย or even better, a service center within driving distance! It’s not like I live in a small city, but i guess the market just isn’t here any longer ๐
I may have to order some foam and give this a shot… as usual, I should have thought of this *before* I gave them to my son… when they were simply collecting dust in my office.
