BeoSound 9000 – CDs not properly retained when mounted vertically

Hi everyone,

I’m having a problem with my BeoSound 9000 mk1 when it is mounted vertically on the wall (works fine on a table), and I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced the same issue.

The player basically works, but after a CD has been played and the mechanism returns the disc to its position, some CDs are not properly retained. They remain slightly loose and can actually fall out when the unit is mounted vertically.

An interesting detail is that my home-burned CD-Rs work perfectly and are properly retained after playback. The problem occurs with commercially manufactured/original CDs, but even among these discs the behaviour varies considerably. Some commercially produced CDs are retained perfectly, while others are left loose and can fall out. I have not yet been able to identify an obvious difference between the discs that work and those that do not.

I have already checked and adjusted the upper part of the CD carriage/clamping mechanism. I have also made sure that the two adjustment screws at the rear of the carriage are installed and adjusted, and that the two position/transport adjustment settings on the rear/bottom of the BeoSound 9000 are set correctly for vertical wall mounting.

Has anyone experienced this specific problem where CD-Rs work reliably, but certain commercially manufactured CDs are not properly retained after playback when the BeoSound 9000 is mounted vertically?

If so, what was the cause and how did you solve it?

I would also be very interested in knowing the correct factory procedure for adjusting the upper carriage/clamping mechanism and the two rear adjustment screws. I have the service manual, but I find the adjustment instructions rather difficult to interpret, particularly the specified measurements.

Any experience, measurements, photos, or detailed adjustment instructions would be greatly appreciated.
