ModeratorHi alls,
I’ve found a Beosound 8 for a fair price but in average condition. Anyway, it starts and despite some reviews I read, I’m very pleased with the sound.
The iPod dock is missing, it seems to have been brutally ripped off. I could have had use of it but it’s not a big issue.
Now, I’ve tried to remote control it and it doesnt react to A.AUX, A.MEM and any other audio command. But it still turn off after a long press on the red dot key leading me to think the IR electronics do work.
Any advice about this?
Thank you in advance.Location: Paris France

ModeratorThere is some inconclusive discussion here: https://forum.beoworld.org/forums/topic/beosound-8-beoplay-a8-remote-quick-questions/
I would be tempted to see if it is indeed in A.OPT 4 (which does respond to a long press to turn off). Perhaps try the usual method for setting A.OPT 1?
EDIT: If it won’t go into A.OPT 1, try using the LINK command from Beo4, or put the Beo4 in permanent LINK mode.

ModeratorHi Guy,
Hope you’re well.
I’ll try this tomorrow after a good cleaning of the unit.
Do you think the BS 8 has Option settings? Really? (Edit: Ok yes it has, stated in the topic you mentionned. Sorry).

ModeratorHi alls and Guy,
I did set the unit to A.OPT 5 and it partially worked: I have volume control but I’m unable to start the unit via an A.AUX command. Tried from a Beo 6 A.AUX command and a Beolink 1000 SHIFT+Radio command.
Actually not a big deal, volume control is enough. But I’d like to understand why it don’t work.

ModeratorHi Matador!
I’m glad something worked. I did just check the manual and noticed this – see the bit in bold:
Priority of connections;
1. iPod/iPhone/iPad dock
2. USB
3. AUX
This means that AUX cannot be
activated if an iPod/iPhone/iPad
is connected, or other equipment
is connected via USBPerhaps the system thinks something else is connected – or perhaps there has been damage to the iPod dock connection that makes the unit think an iPod is connected?
And I am well thanks, although busy with Grandson this weekend. I hope you are keeping well too!

GOLD MemberHello Matador and congrats on your newest Beosound
Searching on threads about Beosound 8 dock reveals that other members have succesfully disconnected the dock and have the other functions working. Since you say it has been brutally ripped of on your unit I would suggest you try to open it up and see if there are any remains of the dock PCB on the inside to avoid any mishaps in operation because of that.
Is look like a servicemanual should be available here on Beoworld, but I just get a 404 when I try to open it, so you might have to get Multicare to look at that

ModeratorThank you both for your help,
The Apple dock part has indeed been removed and they’re is still remains of the plastix legs inside but no more.
Pending is a connector with 4 or 6 white wires and one red, one black. It cpnnects to the 30 pin actual dock connector and member Leogoneswild post once a picture or the part where it should connect. So unless there is something inside like “if nothing is connected that means something is connected” the unit can’t see an iPod on it.Moreover it works connected to a Mac as USB audio and it works as line-in with autosense. I think that if the unit was tricked believing an ipod is connected I wouldn’t be able to select another source.
I’ve got the service manual for the BS8 but it is not of any help appart the wiring of the pending connector. I’m unable to interpret it correctly but I wonder it it can be turned into a line in port to have two remote selectables line-in input? Matter for another topic.
