I recently bought a Beosound 5 / Beomaster 5 system used. It works, but I am missing the Sound menu, I hope I can get help in this forum.
I have tried everything I think. Been in the Customer Configuration Menu, Service Configuration Menu and in Service Menu.
Audiomaster is set to Option 1.
I think the latest versions of software are installed
    BS5 SW version 7.04.01.1945
    Main firmware: 1.38a
    Boot firmware 0.04a

Does anyone have a suggestion for what to do?

    Best regards
    Peter

Hi Peter and welcome to Beoworld!

I see in the manual that the SOUND menu disappears when the Audiomaster is in A.OPT 0.

Are speakers connected?  I am not sure whether the BM5 defaults to A.OPT 0 if no speakers are connected (like BS9000).  Try connecting powerlink speakers.

Alternatively, have you tired all the other A.OPTs of 1, 2, 5 and 6?

Is the BM connected to anything else by Masterlink?  If so, try disconnecting and re-set the A.OPT.

EDIT:  And I think that the A.OPT has to be set in both the BeoSound and the Beomaster.  If you haven’t already got a copy, search for the ‘BeoSound 5 Installation Manual’ and lave a look at pages 20/21.

    Hi Guy,
    Thanks for your reply.
The system is set up as a stand-alone system, with speakers connected to the power-link connectors, however the speakers are not B&O but work similarly. I don’t think this could cause the issue.
Set-up exactly as system 1, shown on page 6 of the BeoMaster 5 BeoSound 5 Installation Guide.

    AudioMaster is set to: YES
AM Option is set to 1

AM Option 0 (speakers turn off), 2, 5 and 6 has been tried but does not bring up the Sound menu.

In BeoMaster 5 BeoSound 5 Installation Guide, page 25, is shown how to set speakers, a sub item in the sound menu – this does not bring up the SOUND menu either.

    Issue still unresolved.

    Best regards
    Peter

I think this could still be worth further investigation.

Have a look at this post/thread – shows that a resistor between PL pins 2 and 4 is required to act as ‘speaker sense’:  https://forum.beoworld.org/forums/topic/powerlink-speaker-sense-plug-wiring/#post-52035

This thread refers specifically to BS/BM5:  https://forum.beoworld.org/forums/topic/beosound-5-beomaster-5-non-bo-amp/

As mentioned ain the above link, Steve at Sound Heavenly produces a speaker sense plug to put in the spare PL socket in such setups (usually BS9000):  https://soundsheavenly.com/products/beosound-9000-and-beosystem-9000c-speaker-sense-adapter-gives-remote-control-functions-when-no-speakers-are-connected

Other than that I have run out of  ideas – perhaps another forum member with a BS5 can comment, or check the behaviour of their system.

    Hello Peter, hello Guy,

I am a proud BS5/BM5 owner, using it in Option 0, no PowerLink speakers attached. I did put it to Option 1 for testing your case Peter, and no SOUND menu appeared. I would indeed try, as Guy suggests, PowerLink speakers or Steve’s dummy plug.

    Hope this helps, J.

    Hi Tigum, Hi Guy,

That sounds very interesting. I’ll get a dummy plug made asap.
I’ll get back to you once I’ve tested it out.

    Best regards
    Peter

    Hi Guy, Hi Tignum,

    Voila 🙂
It works with a resistor between pins 2 and 4 of the PowerLink cable as described in the thread above.
    The Sound menu now appears.
Thank you very much for your time and effort in helping with my question.

    Best regards
    Peter
