BRONZE MemberHi!
i got a Beosound 1 (old version)the radio and speakers are working well, but it will not open the cd latch, it makes a sound but nothing is happening, would it mean the door mechanism is broken? Or something else inside the cd player, I have yet to disassemble it, figured id ask beforehand so I know if its worth trying to fix.
17 September 2025 at 19:54 #69729ModeratorHi Kim and welcome to Beoworld!
You really need to disassemble and investigate, but it should be quite straightforward especially if you have the service manual (available on site to Silver/Gold members). I have three BeoSound 1s and have dismantled all of them to clean and fix various problems with the CD.
The last one that I took apart had a slight problem with the door mechanism, as you will see if you read my posts in the following thread: https://forum.beoworld.org/forums/topic/beosound-1-faulty-cd-player/#post-56558
If you have any further questions come back and ask and maybe provide photos – I can always check the mechanism against one of my working ones.

BRONZE Memberhi guy!
ah ok, yes will probably try to take it apart then! seems pretty straight forward and “easy” for a B&O product.
got quoted 230£ for a cd repair here in sweden or if it was the laser they said 1000£ which I obviously wouldnt pay haha
if I can i will send a video maybe on what it sounds like when i press the load button

That sounds expensive! My new laser (fitted myself) cost £30!
Have fun dismantling the BeoSound – it is actually quite straightforward. And if you break something you can usually find replacement parts such as this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/186532000399

BRONZE Memberhi again!
Finally got time to take it apart, and I think I found the issue (at least one for now) and its the small rubber belt that has broken that opens up the hatch. So now is that an easy fix or?

BRONZE MemberAlso, would that be the reason the cd wont play as well? as that belt only seems to be for the actual hatch to open?

Hopefully, if you can find a replacement belt of the same size – I am not aware of any suppliers so it may be trial and error! Unless anyone else knows on the forum. Otherwise you could buy that replacement clamper from eBay – there is also a new one here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/166441843810

I can’t remember if there is a microswitch to tell the system that the clamper is fully down – if there is it should be fairly obvious. Also the clamper needs t be fully down so that the CD is gripped so that it will turn at the correct speed, otherwise it will not play.

BRONZE MemberAhh makes sense! I have ordered the cd clamper and will report back when I have installed it , if it works or not!

BRONZE Memberhi again!
noticed a new “issue” and it works eventually after a few tries.
so since i fixed the clamper it has been working perfectly but yesterday when putting in a new cd it spins for 1 sec and then stops and then spins again but then the hatch opens, I keep reloading and pressing CD and then eventually it start working again.
Is that the laser slowly giving up or the whole cd mechanism or maybe something else?
regards, Kim
7 October 2025 at 15:17 #70191ModeratorOne of my BS1s behaves like that if I haven’t used it for a while. In fact I just tried playing a CD on my study BS1 and it did the same!
I think the trick is to use if more often! The cogs and sliders in the CD mechanism possibly get a bit sticky if unused. Once it’s running, leave a CD to play all the way through, and exercise the mechanism by moving backwards and forwards through tracks. Try a few different CDs – very old or very new ones, and of different lengths.
You can also go into service mode and command the CD laser to focus and move – but I usually leave that until the problem persists for a while.

BRONZE MemberAh interesting, that makes sense. On account if how dusty mine was etc it probably have been standing stored for a long time!
