I’ve never owned a Beoremote One, and I’m curious about it since I saw my friend using one at his house – I was impressed with the look and feel of it.  His was the BT version but I would only need an IR version.

My B&O equipment is mostly older ML generation stuff, but will the Beoremote One (IR version) work well with that?  I’m mostly thinking of my Beosystem 3, Beosound 4 and Beosound 5, but I also plan to replace my broken (and unfortunately irreparable) Beosound 9000 at some point.

I currently use a Beo4 and a couple of Beo6s (The Beo6 is really useful with the Beosound 5 because of the two-way communication).  I know Beoremote One doesn’t have two-way, but could it do the same job as my Beo4, and is it generally reliable?

I own one for years and I can confidently say that in my opinion it is the worst designed remote ever made by B&O and possibly others.

It’s not backlit. The buttons all look the same.  The layout of the buttons is totally illogical.  It’s impossible to use in the dark.  You cannot use it by feel either. The POWER OFF button is wedge between the volume buttons which is easy as hell to hit accidentally.  The most commonly used buttons are placed in the middle of the remote totally randomly, and again impossible to find in the dark or feel your way to it.  It is not rechargeable and to change the batteries you have to get a SIM card ejector and take it apart into fiddly 4 bits.

But ya. It looks pretty cool.  Until you try to use it.

^^^This.  Also the screen glue & alignment isn’t always 100% from the OEM (Ruwido) so the top row of buttons can get caught underneath the edge of the display, in some samples.  But @severedhand forgot to answer your direct question: Yes, it will work.  There is a button translation diagram from the Beo4 on page 19 of EN_1405_BeoRemoteOne_Online_Guide.pdf, downloadable from B&O’s website of support documents.

I like its looks too!  That’s always the principal reason for buying any B&O equipment IMHO.  You might even be able to find a bargain for the non-BT version.  But I’ll keep using my old Beolink 1000 for old systems, until it dies.

All very interesting, thanks.  They do go on eBay for a bit less than £200, which is half the price of a new one.

I’ll think about it then.  Curiosity will probably get the better of me and I’ll buy one when one comes up on eBay in the right kind of condition.  If I don’t find I’m using it, I’ll just sell it.

And yes, I still have two Beolink 1000, which I use for me older music systems (Beosystem 9500 and 4500).  The best design.

My Beosound 9000 (Mk1) suffered a power supply failure, and unfortunately that also fried a lot of the other internals.  I had a few items off for repair and service recently and that was included, but they told me it could not be repaired – too much damage internally.  It’s a shame as it’s cosmetically in excellent condition.

I’m on the lookout for another, but they do go for a high price, especially if you want one that has been professionally serviced.  I also want to make sure I get a Mk3 next time.

If anyone (in the UK) is thinking of selling one, let me know!

Hi CharlieWednesday, for best menu-control of my BeoSystem 3, I bought a BR1 BT. I think it is very elegant but a bit vulnerable for dings. It died once but I got a replacement (inner part) on warranty. The BR1 indeed is more difficult to use in the dark with its smooth buttons. I still think it is way better than a lot of plastic squeaky and flimsy plastic remotes other brands offer!

I bought a Beo4 ‘joystick’ later, and that is the one I use every day. Perhaps it is also because of the other 6 Beo4s around the house :-). I keep a couple of 1000s for spare in a drawer, and I have a Beo6 that I should get to work one day coming winter 🙂

Yes my Beo4 is the joystick version and it works great with the Beosystem 3.  My Beosound 4 also supports the joystick control.  What I like about the Beoremote One is the ability to rename the sources that show in the display, so I can have ‘Google TV’ instead of ‘DTV2’ and ‘Switch’ instead of ‘DVD2’, and so on.

Also, I think I’ve now mastered the art of replacing a battery in the Beo6 and have restored a few, and kept 2 for myself.  I have had some with a dead touchscreen though – I believe that’s a reasonably common issue.

I like the Beo6 because I can reprogram it myself, and in fact I often do.

I have all types of B&o remotes, from Beomaster 6000 Commander to Beoremote Halo and almost everthing in between.

Only special ones, for example the Beolink 7000, had some kind of “back light”.
So the issue of finding a button is as old as the B&o remotes. And Yes, one seems to be easier to handle in the dark than the other!

Since I got a Demo Beoremote One (IR version) before the official introduction, I’m prefer this remote.
I learned quite quickly, even in the dark, to find the right buttons. Now I owe and use on a daily base several ones. I hardly use any Beo4 anymore, sometimes I use one of the Beolink 1000 family though (because some commands are so simple to execute).

Until now none of my BR1’s have had any technical issue.
