Hi guys.
I have an old PowerPC mac (G4) and I wanted to use it with Beolink PC2. I’ve installed BM-Link, connected BeoLink PC2 to mac (USB and Audio IN), masterlink to BeoLab 2000.
At first BM-Link said, taht the software version is 1.21. There was no sound on BeoLab 2000, I tried different sources (N.Music, A.Tape2 etc) – no luck, but I was able to hear the music via headphones connected to headphone socket on the BeoLink PC2. BM-Link saw the converter, all sliders worked (Bass, Treble, Volume). I figured I have to upgrade the firmware, so I did it using firmware 1.31 supplied with BM-Link – still no sound on BeoLab2000, but this time also no sound on headphones 🙁 I’ve connected BeoLab 4500 speakers via PowerLink and I’ve heard the music from iTunes. Mac/BM-Link still sees BeoLink PC2, shows 1.31. firmware version, volume/bass/treble works, but I can only hear music via PowerLink, nothing on BeoLab 2000 connected via Masterlink. I’ve tried to connect Beolink PC2 to my Beosound 2500 via BeoLink 1611 (the newer one) connected to AUX port (it works with BeoLab 2000 and BeoLab 3500, so converter is OK and can act as a master), but also no music via BeoSound (pressing N.Music on Beo4 remote sets A.Tape2 source on my BeoSound 2500 – is A.Tape2 the same as N.Music??).
What am I doing wrong? Where can I get LinkPlayer 1/2 for PowerPC mac to try with it?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Best regards,
adamP.S. I’ve already read a therad about BeoLink PC2 on this forum (https://forum.beoworld.org/forums/topic/playing-with-blink-pc2-and-beoport/), but didn’t found anything that can solve my problem…
20 March 2023 at 12:15 #44825I can’t help with much of the above because I only use my Beoport with a PC.
However, I do know that the BC2500 is not N.MUSIC compatible. Yes A.TAPE 2 (or SHIFT A.TAPE) is the same IR command as N.MUSIC (and PHONO is N.RADIO), but as far as I am aware this will not allow the BC2500 to control an N.MUSIC/N.RADIO device such as Beoport. Compatibility started with the BS3000, see here: https://beoworld.org/faq_view.asp?id=20
Also be aware that early SW versions of BL2000 do not support the PC or AUX command. I think this needs SW1.5 (SW 1.1 does not work).
25 March 2023 at 02:39 #44828And what about BeoSound Ouverture (the one with tape and Masterlink socket)?
Ouverture is not N.MUSIC compatible either.
What if I’ll connect BeoPort directly to my BeoLab3500 witch reacts properly to switching to N.MUSIC source (there is N.Music on the display)?
Yes this should work fine as BL3500 is N.MUSIC compatible.
And why there is no sound from headphones socket of BeoPort after firmware upgrade (1.21->1.31)?
Not sure, but then I haven’t used BM-link SW. Is the last post of this old thread any use? https://archivedforum.beoworld.org/forums/t/29482.aspx
25 March 2023 at 13:04 #44826Hello. I just got some time to try something with this on my setup. I have BMlink installed on a 2006 iMac.
Tried to connect it to my Beolab 3500 in option 6, I could not get the BL3500 to activate or play sound from the Beoport. Also tried connection the Beoport to my BC6 in option 2, and also no reaction.
However using the LP software I could, however this also have some quirks.
There arent many options in BMlink, so I have a hard time seeing what could be wrong, as hardware vise it is working.
BTW. I don’t think that the LP software is PPC compatible.
25 March 2023 at 13:13 #44827Hi,
@Guy, that was my first thought, that BC2500 is not able to play N.Music source (afaik it can not act as master). And what about BeoSound Ouverture (the one with tape and Masterlink socket)? What if I’ll connect BeoPort directly to my BeoLab3500 witch reacts properly to switching to N.MUSIC source (there is N.Music on the display)? And why there is no sound from headphones socket of BeoPort after firmware upgrade (1.21->1.31)?
Best regards
