One of my Beocom 6000s wouldn’t charge. I removed the battery and looked at the visible connectors. Some had verdigris on them (despite no other signs of moisture ingress) so I dismantled the phone and used contact cleaner on the affected contactors. Now I’ve put the phone back together (everything except re-attaching the back case….it was such a nightmare to get off, I wanted to be sure it all worked before replacing that!), the “C” button and the “INT button aren’t working. All the other pushbuttons and wheel work perfectly. It also now charges perfectly so at least I’ve fixed that!

Does anyone know which contactors those two buttons use? i.e. which connector should I be focussing my attention on?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi and welcome to Beoworld!

If you undo the screws and remove the main PCB there are two ‘rubber strip’ contact connectors underneath.  The upper one is for the display, and the lower one for the keyboard.  I would try removing, cleaning the lower ‘rubber’ strip (with a soft brush) and the PCB/display contacts with isopropyl alcohol, and then re-assemble and test.

    Thanks for the advice.

I’ve already cleaned the rubber part and contactors to no effect. It’s really weird that everything works fine except for those two buttons!

There are two springy contactors, one on either side of the keypad part. They are clearly designed to contact the pcb on the edge but I have no idea if they are making a good contact. Do you know what they are for?

Sorry for slow response.  If you mean the long metal (copper?) strips, then I think they connect the PCB to the two charging contacts on the base of the phone.  (The battery is connected separately to the PCB.)

    A couple of other thoughts:

    • A bad contact on the display connector can also cause the phone to behave strangely, as can a battery that needs charging (or replacing).
    • Have you tried a RESET of the handset?  Go into Service Menu by pressing  9#9#9✱INT and then scroll to RESET handset.  (Make sure you know PSTN PIN code (if set) and store any phone numbers first!)

Otherwise maybe look for a cheap BC6000 Mk2 with other faults and swap the keyboard section over.

    Thanks Guy,

Sadly, one of the two buttons not working is the “INT” button, so a reset isn’t an option. I will try to clean the display connector again, just in case.

I’ve uploaded two photos; the first shows the two contacts I’m referring to, arrowed in red and the second shows where I believe they should touch on the PCB, also arrowed in red. These may, of course, just be bonding points!

I’d rather not bin the phone as it is, to all intents and purposes, unused.

Thanks for the photos.  I’m not at all sure about those contacts – except to say that I have never paid any particular attention to them when dismantling/reassembling BC6000s.  It’s unlikely that they are the cause because it would not be just two buttons that stop working.

See how you get on with the display connector – sometime just taking the phone apart and re-assembling is enough to solve the strangest of problems!
