The backlight on my Beocom 2 is very dim. It does light up, but not bright. You can read the time when displayed in big numbers, but the menu, phonebook etc is difficult to see with the small text and dim backlight.

Has anyone else ever had this problem, and is there a fix? Iโ€™ve been into the service menu but I see no option to adjust it.

If you look down into the display can you see two light sources, like in the photo below?

I once had a problem with a Beocom 6000 where a couple of the (four) light sources were not illuminating.  It turned out to be dry solder joints, and reflowing the solder fixed the problem.

If taken apart, the two BC2 light sources (LEDs?) are as shown in the picture below โ€“ they โ€˜projectโ€™ the light through a clear plastic part (EDIT:  visible to the top left of the main PCB below) to illuminate the rear of the LCD display:

I am not sure whether I would go to the trouble of dismantling a BC2 if itโ€™s a problem that you can live with!  The LCD display itself in mine fades to nothing over a couple of days and I have to re-boot the phone to restore it, but I canโ€™t bring myself to investigate further as itโ€™s too stressful a process!

Yes I do see them, but they seem to be much dimmer than they should be โ€“ they give off very little light.

Fortunately mine does not seem to suffer any other problems with the display (which I have read about), itโ€™s just the dim backlight thatโ€™s an issue.

I did notice however that if left out of the base, the battery lasts very little time, so I have ordered a replacement.  Maybe a new battery with more power will help the brightness.

Otherwise Iโ€™ll just learn to live with it โ€“ I donโ€™t have the skill to replace those lamps!

Quoting myself, but I just wanted to say that, after several weeks of use (mostly sat on the charger) the LCD display in my BeoCom 2 no longer fades away as it did before.  It seems that many B&O faults seem to go away the more you make use of the equipment  ๐Ÿ˜€.  In another example, my previously intermittent BeoSound 1 CD player has been running smoothly since I started using it more.

Agreed. Since I put the new battery in it seems to be a bit brighter, and I might be kidding myself but I swear each time I take it out of its base, it gets a bit brighter.

Of course, the landline hardly ever rings so Iโ€™ve just been picking it up occasionally for no reason!

Itโ€™s mostly just there because it looks very, very good there.
