Over the past 8-10 years our BeoCenter 9500 (2506, 1991) developed various kinds of issues. During this time we used the BC as an Amplifier with a bluetooth adapter on AUX.
Due to busy work schedules there was never a good time over the past years to start looking deeply into the problems. Being retired now I started to have a closer look.
Below are the issues with the BC:
– CD lid dropped out of its slides and linkages. Drive cords came loose.
– CD’s not playing
– Tape drive not working
– Both lid drive motor belts ripped
– Lid drive motors not working
– Some keyboard LED’s not lit or dimmed in various illumination strength. All the touch keys are working.Restoring lid mechanism, cord drive, lid motors, CD and tape drive
Starting with the lids and drive motors it needed a thorough cleaning of the sliding mechanism, greasing it, putting all sliding parts back together, fiddling the cord drive in place and adjusting the cord drive tension. Testing it by manually turning the drive rods the lids were moving smoothly.
Ripped drive motor belts have been replaced with similar size rubber O-rings.
As for the Lid motors not working it turned out to be a missing power supply due to a blown 1A fuse on PCB60.
Testing the lid movement via the touch keys it works as new.
Replacing the 1A fuse took also care of the tape drive as it is the same power supply.
The CD drive not working was solved by thorough cleaning the CD drive it self and greasing of CD lid guides that moves the disc holding mechanism when the lid opens.
So far so good 😊😉
However, my troubleshooting is stuck now with regard to the keyboard LED’s. I have attached a pdf file with a detailed description of the issues and troubleshooting process so far and hope to find some further advice or leads in this forum.

6 December 2024 at 09:48 #61370You’ve done lots of good work on the BC9500 already so hopefully we can help!
Looking at the service manual (specifically the circuit diagram for the lower panel) I can see no logical failure that would give the symptoms that you describe on the pdf.
I see that you state that the battery reads 3V, but I would look at replacing it anyway. Failing that, maybe try disconnecting/reconnecting the battery and then carry out the procedure for resetting the BeoCenter when it shows CODE on the display, as follows:
- Fix the battery or RAM and then:
- Using a Beolink 1000 press:1271
- After 3 seconds, disconnect the 9500 from the mains and then reconnect.

7 December 2024 at 10:35 #61413Great, thanks for the battery advice. That was actually what I was looking for. Since I will be away for Christmas holidays for quite a while it will be well in the new year until I am able work on it. Surely will feed back if it solved the issue. Thanks again and happy holidays everyone!
