Hi, I am Machiel and this is my first message. I am Dutch, but I have been living in Spain since 2023.

I recently bought a Beocenter 9300 and a 9500. Let me briefly describe them and their issues.

    Beocenter 9300

    • Looks beautiful, no visible damage on the outside
    • Everything worked fine, but as of this week, the CD door won’t open anymore. If I press Load CD, a short buzzing sound is audible. But that’s it. Nothing happens. The previous owner replaced the belts and cleaned and lubed the tracks. I can still manually open the sliding door smoothly with a flat screwdriver through the opening in the front. If I then put a CD on the axis and press play, the CD is not kept by the clamp (I guess) and drifts of the shaft.

    • The glass touch panels are ‘blistered’. The still function, but they don’t look very nice.
    • The sliding door of the tape deck is stuck. You can’t manually move it in any direction.
    • The sliding door of the CD player moves a bit, but needs some manual encouragement to open or close it completely.
    • On connecting or disconnecting from the mains, a rather loud and unpleasant thump is audible through the speakers (RL 6000).

My original plan was to repair the 9500 and then try to sell it again. I got it for a reasonable price. But I am now also considering to repair the 9500, swap the touch panels with the 9300 and upgrade the capacitors of the preamp with the capacitor refresh kit offered by Danish Sound Parts.

    I have got three questions:

    1. What are your thoughts about repairing and upgrading the 9500 to keep that one as my own Beocenter (in stead of only repairing and selling it)?
    2. What could be the cause of the thump of the 9500 on connecting and disconnecting to the power outlet?
    3. What could cause the erratic behaviour of the CD player of the 9300 (i.e. the sliding door not opening anymore, despite it being serviced recently)?

Thanks in advance; I really appreciate your help on these matters.
