BRONZE MemberHey! Here is a little project that came to life because I wanted stands for my S45-2 speakers.
First I ordered an aftermarket version from eBay. Looked like the original but sadly enough it was complete butchery. Base wasn’t even straight on the floor, so called backbone was held with one bolt with no fixed angle and was all wobbly as hell. Luckily had an option to send it back.
As true originals are hard to come by and prices are often more than the speaker itself I thought I make it myself.
As of no experience with any CAD software I started off with Blender 3D. I wanted to simplify the making of it – meaning no welding needed and to use material that’s easily available, easy to cut and for the looks as well – aluminium. Still using the style and measures of the original not to the point but close. So it came out as a 3 piece design, bottom slate, backbone (full aluminium), and T-bar. Assembled with just 4 bolts.
Once happy with the 3D I made technical drawings with all the needed measures. And in lack of proper workshop handed it over to a friend.
Then about 10 month later, I got the stands. Sadly the outcome wasn’t quite to the level what I expected. Hole measures were off, and not up to the precision one would expect. Still it was possible to bolt it together sturdy – with precise drilling it would have been lot easier to achieve. Another unfortunate thing was the anodising, something went massively wrong there. Instead of getting that nice brushed metal look it looks like cheap gray paint over it. I think I’ll redo the surface one day.
Still these nags are something you care more about when deeply involved in the project yourself. Someone just looking at it in the living room wouldn’t know the difference. It serves the purpose just fine. Happy to have the stands for my S45-2s finally 🙂I’ll add a collage picture of the project with 3D and real life photos.
