    Hi All,

I’ve emailed Steve to see if he can help, but I wanted to post here too.

This morning I picked up a Beocenter 2 head unit, its socket unit box, and two Beolab 4000 speakers for £50. The system was a fully integrated install by Peter Tyson over 20 years ago, so I had to remove the wiring from the owner’s house.

While removing it I had to cut the data cable that runs from the Beocenter 2 in the kitchen to the socket unit in the living room (which was plugged into a Beovision TV). I hoped to splice it back together, but all the internal wires look the same colour except for a single red one in the centre, so I can’t tell which wires map to which pins.

Has anyone here spliced this type of cable before or knows the pinout? The existing run is about 10–15 metres, whereas I only need roughly 3 metres for the socket unit’s new location.

My options seem to be: attempt the splice myself if I can identify the pinout, or find someone with experience to wire it correctly. Buying a replacement cable isn’t really an option — the ones I’ve seen are around €250.

    Cheers,

    Ryan

If all the wires look the same colour then I fail to understand how a ‘pinout’ diagram will help!  Nevertheless I checked the service manual and there is no pinout shown.

But surely you can simply use a multimeter to check for continuity between plug pins and cut wires and match accordingly between the two cut ends – I don’t see any other way of proceeding if there is no colour coding.  It’ll take a while but save buying a new cable.

By the way did you ever get the Beosystem 3500 touch panels sorted that you asked for help with earlier in the year?

    Thank you.

i will see if Steve Can help i have emailed, failing that I will have a go myself with my volt meter.

So the wire does have a red and white cable in the centre after looking more closely. but all the outer wires appear to be black.

under the outer black PVC skin of the cable there is also like some sort of metal mesh that runs inside too. Is this just some sort of shielding or does it serve any other purpose?

also my 3500 issue was solved by pressing the glass down tight with double sided tape

I have managed to find someone who can help with the aid of a junction box.
