Hi everyone, I’m new here.
I’ve been given a pristine beocenter 4000 (1978) and a Beogram 1600 turntable.
The beogram had a couple of minor faults but I managed to pick up another whole unit for spares from eBay. ☺️The problem I have is the speakers have degraded over time, I mean the actual rubber that surrounds the speakers, so now they vibrate.
is there any replacements that are suitable?
the condition of the speaker boxes is perfect.
kind regards. Greg.1 November 2024 at 11:18 #60626Hi and welcome to Beoworld!
I am not sure what model of speakers you are referring to, but you may well be able to replace the deteriorating rubber surrounds. Have a search for ‘speaker refoaming’ , or follow some of the links in this thread: https://forum.beoworld.org/forums/topic/replace-or-refoam-woffers-on-beovox-80-2-2/
1 November 2024 at 12:21 #60632Thank you Guy.
I think they are s45 shelf speakers.
I will take a look at your link ☺️1 November 2024 at 13:18 #60635Thank you Guy.
I have ordered some.I really appreciate your help 🥂
1 November 2024 at 15:17 #60637Thanks Greg – good luck with the fix – there’s plenty of refoaming advice on the net and here, should you get ‘stuck’! From what I hear it needs lots of patience.
And don’t forget to come back and post photos of your work!
1 November 2024 at 17:21 #60643The Beocenter 4000 from this era is a truly great piece of kit. It uses the Beomaster 2200 as a base and the amplifier is fantastic. The later Beocenter 4000 from the mid 80s is completely different and nothing like the quality. The speakers you have seem to be S40s. These were a slightly upgraded S35 – you would be better off getting S45s which are a three way speaker and one of the best speakers of this era of B&O. The speakers you picture appear to have a foam surround whereas the S45s have a rubber surround.
The 4000 is notable for the way it was made using prototype wiring and is extremely high quality. The receiver version, the 2200 had the misfortune to be around at the same time as the 2400 which was better looking though similar but was not as good from an audio point of view. The 4000 is quite unusual to see about – lovely piece of equipment.

I’m loving this 4000!
I have coveted it since I was young!
(I wasn’t allowed to even touch it when I was younger )I did notice the speakers weren’t the three way type.
I will repair these then look for a pair of S45s.My uncle didn’t have any children so this 4000, turntable and speakers are in pristine condition!
He rang me last week to tell me he even has the original box it came in! I will be collecting it in a few weeks 🥂
