      Hi,

Not sure if I have posted this correctly, if not I apologize in advance.

I am the new owner of a Beosound 5 system, and a very happy one I must say. But I have run in to two challenges as I have started to rip my music and listening to it on the BS5.

Challenge 1 is: I have ripped about 100 albums to a USB stick using Windows Media player and tagged them with Metadata and album cover in mp3tag. However, with the last 20 albums or so I now see that they all get categorized under “various” in the playlist where you chose music instead of the artist name. I am not sure what to do of this and haven’t found a solution online.

I am thinking maybe a software update could do the trick, but not sure completely.

However, that leads me to the second challenge: I cannot connect the BS5 to the internet. Is it true that it needs an additional B&O net device in order to go online? I have tried with a reguler ethernet cable to my router with no luck.

I hope you can help me out there and once again, I apologize if this has been placed incorrectly in the forum.

      Thanks in advance!

        Hi HPRAS, welcome.

I’ve become very rusty in the art of getting the BS5 directories running “optimally”. I am sure other contributors will come on here and correct me.

        First.

The BS5/BM5 can log onto the network via a cable to the router. You will beed a password to logon via the BS5. How to do that I have forgotten (I think a factory reboot and recovery gets you there?). Similarly, once you have your credentials (and again, others can fill in the detail), you can access the BM5 music files via your windows PC File explorer.

        Next

The BS5 will be a stickler for metadata. So best buy yourself a good IDTag editor and ensure you cross-reference all the search criterial (and get rid of anything that can cause an unwanted category search). Edit and categorise all your music in your PC. Its faster.

I used the file system “Artist Name – Artist Album” in the music directory and added all the correct IDTagged music files (FLAC) to that directory. This makes the wheel/beam search very fast (to me)

Once complete, copy the whole lot to the BM5 via the network.

Once you get used to the exact procedures, its straight forward to do (if not slow to load).

          Hi Mr10Percent

Thank you for the welcome and the answer. This was very useful. Just a clarifying question before I start. Do you mean I should not use the USB stick as the place to store music? And rather get the network going and follow the process you describe? I am not certain of the HD space on it, but I will look into it 🙂

          Once again thank  you!

            Hi again

Some follow up info, after going through the system again then I found out that it is the BS5 Encore system. Which means, as I understand, it has no hard drive to store files, but instead is reliant on having it from an external source. Not sure if this alters anything?

With the Encore you need a (DLNA compatble) server running somewhere on your network (on a NAS, a PC/MAC….) – this most be pointed toward the files collection in order to organize and make these visible for the Encore.

They easiest way, however will be to use your USB stick (or a small external HD) with the files.
When this is connected to the USB input of the Encore, this will take care of the handling.
              Relatively easy!

But you must tag your files resonably (including coverpics) and you will need to detach the stick/HD each time you want to add or change something.

The Encore can connect to your home network both wired and wireless.
              Always use wired if possible.

              Furthermore – see here:

I have a BS5/BM5, not a BS5 Encore, and store my music on the BS5/BM5.

My tagging I do via iTunes on a Mac: I use the Mac to import from CD, I let the Mac deal with all the metadata, except the album art —because the album art the Mac assigns doesn’t get copied when I export the music to the BS5/BM5.  Instead, I import my own album art into iTunes.

I then export the music to the BS5/BM5.  As long as the album art is 600 x 600 or smaller, the BS5 is very happy with the metadata and it all stores and displays correctly on the BS5.

                  Hi both,

Thank you your answers. And sorry for the late reply. Busy weekend. I did get the wifi connection going on the Encore. Not sure how, but now I am receiving internet radio at least. Not sure why it did not work before, but the solution is still the same. Ethernet cable straight to the router.

In regards to the meta data, then I know some albums have images that is bigger than the 600 x 600 mentioned, as I have tagged them myself and did not think of the size. However, I will give that a go and run through all of them to ensure the size is correct. Not sure if will do the trick, but worth a try at least.

Once again, thank you for all the help and answers here!

actually art up to 1000×1000 is accepted by the BS5 Encore. Above this size the B&o picture is shown.

                      Hi all,

just wanted to give an Update om progress, also for anyone else who might find this thread useful. So i did the resizing of the images, which helped in some cases. However, i found that editing the metadata, even though it was correct, changed the situation. Since i had challenges with the artist name not showing and instead was under various, i just changed that. Or actually i deleted it in mp3tag and wrote it again and saved when prompted. This looks like it has fixed the issue. At least from the tests i have made so far.

so basically what i learned was that even though the metadata shows correctly then apparently there can still be something wrong with it. I will continue with this solution and hope i can get everything stored the right Way on the Encore.

once again, thanks everyone for your help on this matter.

Thank you Carolpa!  Yes, I had found some very large art just gave me the B&O logo and I was using 600 x 600 as an approximate rule of thumb.

Now, when you indicate 1000 x 1000 as a formal limit for the Encore, does that also apply to regular old BS5/BM5 as well?

And on a separate matter, I am curious: the sw is different, right?  I mean the BS5/BM5 is Windows Embedded, the Encore must be something else altogether?

How the metadata in the BS5e is shown, is depending how you have consequently filled the music files with the appropiate data.

Note: when you have changed the metadata on a batch of files, be sure you/BS5e did a rescan of the files.

That’s a long time ago, but if I remember correctly it was the same.
And be aware not all picture formats were/are accepted.

                            BS5/BM5 – Windows XP Embedded
                            BS5e – Linux
