Hello everyone,
I was given a Beogram 5005 that seems to work quite well. However one issue I am having is that when the stylus is first placed on the record, the stylus seems to “collapse” or be dragged to the right of the cartridge toward the outside of the record. This causes audible distortion. The tone arm seems to track pretty decently, it’s perhaps a little out of parallel, but I’m not sure what the issue may be. When this happens, I can very gently push the tone arm to the outside of the record, without skipping the groove, and the issue is resolved until the next time the tone arm is raised and lowered.
I am aware that tone arm parallelism can be adjusted with screw C. I’ve also read some people who claim that the issue is that the tone arm advance shutter needs to be shifted forward or backward, basically leading or lagging the tone arm advance.
If I had to guess, I’d say that it looks like the tone arm wants to rest ahead of the groove, causing the stylus to deform to the right side (from the video perspective).
any thoughts would be welcome here!

BRONZE MemberI would first check to make sure that at rest, cued up, the stylus is centered. If it is, then the shutter is misadjusted. You may see evidence of that when the arm is cued down, in that the tonearm moves a bit laterally instead of dropping straight down. When the belt is off, and the arm is cued down on a record, it should drop straight and then not move for 2-3 revolutions of the record.
