  • Re: Will HomePod 'kill' BeoPlay?

Interesting, and it seems like Apple have made a one box speaker that is excellent for its size. I'd caution against expecting audiophile room filling sound from something like the HomePod, however clever the DSP is. Most of the sound quality reviews i've read have it as a bit better than some of the comparable Sonos speakers, but not that much better. And the review below is much more lukewarm, and is a proper test from an audio sensitive guy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uzbTRMIFL-4

And that may well be the case, that i'd just get used to it quickly. And one day i suspect i'll be voice activating various things, i'm just in no great hurry and i'll wait, as (hopefully) the overall capability improves in the future. I'll amble on with my Moment for a while, or using the app, which is decent now. And see how B&O integrate voice into their products - while its easy to cringe at this like future development, i'd be more relaxed. B&O will be using existing

  • Re: Amazon Alexa and the question: How you listen to music today

can definitely see scenarios where it makes sense, but for some the interaction of talking to a machine, is (a) odd and a hurdle, and (b) especially when each interaction starts with a Hey Google, or Hey Siri or whatever, which makes the interaction super weird and odd, to me at least. Maybe i'll be motivated to get over that hurdle one day, when voice control becomes better, and the connected devices get better.

Indeed, in a way we should stop all this pointed criticism of specific brands. We all know that tech cycles are short, and all brands limit software updates to the newest products by and large. Apple are probably the least guilty when it comes to this. Look at LG TVs, where 2016 full 4K models dont get the latest webOS. Is that because they're dont have capable enough hardware, is that because they chose not to so as to maintain the attraction of the new models. Probably somewhere in between

  • Re: beoplay e8 sound quality

I dont use a Samsung phone, but the loudness (and other sound quality issues, good or bad) are a product of the the audio DAC in the phone. If the same headphones sound louder / better on one phone versus another, thats a phone hardware question. Outside of checking whether volume limits are active in the audio settings of the phone, there will be nothing you can do, i believe.

  • Re: BEOVISION ECLIPSE

I don't think its the same at all really - the MS issue was much more serious, in that its licensing agreement with third party PC / laptop makers imposed restrictions on them. Apple have a limitation, whether self imposed or not, on their own product. There is absolutely no way the anti-trust people will or need to get involved. Their view will be, this is an ever evolving landscape of new codecs and formats, the restriction placed on the consumer is low, it is not broadly harming consumer choice

Also they have reworked the streaming process, so as to make it more robust to drop outs (essentially by getting the source / speaker to build bigger buffers). And Airplay 2 is (supposed) to be fully integrated into the Home app, allowing the now playing screen to control multiple speakers etc. Questions remains over whether multiple AP2 speakers can be used as part of surround sound with a TV. Also question over degree of control Siri gives you - is it just Apple Music that can be triggered, or

Are there not still too many unanswered questions about Airplay 2 to know? If, as it seems, many of the BeoPlay / BS speakers will be updated to the Airplay 2 protocol, does that effectively turn your BeoSound 2 for example into a HomePod? Outside of the integrated voice control, it may well effectively be the same, especially in conjunction with an iPhone. I'm not sure what extra then a HomePod will get you? When you are saying "Hey Siri, etc etc" , your phone is listening and talking

They (B&O) apparently have already chosen Voice Integration as a principal control interface for many / as many as possible of their products, using one or more of the existing voice assistants. Personally i loathe them, but guess i'll have to use them one day. Just putting that day off until they actually work much much better than they actually do at the moment. Just because Amazon and Google have sold 10 million of the cheap 50 dollar versions doesn't necessarily suggest to me that

Completely agree. I am somewhat staggered, disappointed and yet ultimately unsurprised how the language around audio and speaker has changed. Reviews of these single unit speakers, whether they are cheap or more expensive, often refer to room filling sound. Its utter garbage - out of the many hundreds of these single-point speakers on the market, there may be perhaps no more than 5 that even get close to room filling sound (the A9, Naim Muso the better of the bunch). The rest range from outright
