I got a promotional email from B&O here in Vienna this morning telling me about Beolink Surround. It sounds like the big update is being able to use any mozart speaker as L+R or Rear surrounds when you have a beovision tv or a beosound theatre. Am I the only potential B&O customer who finds it quite crazy that to achieve surround sound with b&o you need to spend 10,000 euros on a quite brutal and enormous centre speaker? Yes, I know it “brings out the best” in your b&o speakers and acts an av receiver but this is insanity. That is surely quite basic tech. The centre speaker is the last place i’d start with a surround system. If I just paid 15,000 for beolab 28s i am not using them as rears and what does a theatre really bring extra to that party? You need to spend 10,000 for the theatre and 6,000 extra for beolab 8s or a pair of balances etc to go from 2 channel to surround.

Thanks @stan that’s great to hear that you’re enjoying the balance pair and the comparison to the BL1s is encouraging. Would be fascinated to hear from anyone who compared this pair to 17s or BS2s, a9s etc. (and I agree – 2 x a9 would need a lot of space. So it’s probs a single a9 vs a stereo pair that i’d need to choose)

also – Is it just me or are the colour selections uninspiring? – alu with oak looks best but doesn’t match apartment. black is a non starter. Gold tone with light oak is just a bit too bling bling. I liked the brass tones that B&O were doing for a while and stopped.

Looking forward to testing the 8s.

Ahhh, Thanks. Somehow I’d missed the BL8 press releases. Looks nice. I’ll be very interested to see if that sounds better as a stereo pair than the other options above. Seems to be very balance-like in terms of specs. The form factor looks very nice.
